  • Oh thanks again! btw I send this to my former spouse ,anonymously in her email just for fun! I also sent the lyrics on a clean pc. of paper with a lawyers letter head on top of a protection order 7 several fun notes (legal papers) on the day a judge stamped them! Seemed so fitting from an old Hippie! Thanks again. Rick

  • Fake or not. Johnny Winters guitar can not be matched!!!! ICON!

  • I would like to see someone " drop " a track in something and make it come out that tight..... The jam at the end can not be faked...Its real I have heard about it before but this is my first time to hear it....This was done back when people really played their instruments...An art lost to the kids of today..People actually used to jam and make great music on the fly..Way before Rap and Protools.... I personally dont think Johnny would have worked out for ABB..But for jammin hell yea !!

  • ain't no mistakin' john dawson winter on slide...he is better than duane was....sorry duane.

  • @1skullduggery what are you crazy? Duane was ten times better than this guy. Yes, their styles are different But Duane was ranked #2 By Rolling Stone in the List of 100 Greatest Guitarists and Johnny Winter was 74.

  • @AimNFireProductions rolling stone....lol. okay, then.

  • @AimNFireProductions ....ranks by Rolling Stone magazine?.....are you kidding? that's fuckin' funny, they left half of the best players off the list entirely....and nobody, nobody was, has, or ever will be 10x better than Johnny Winter regardless of who they are on their best day.

  • @55slice its true, they left out players like Carlos Santana.

  • @AimNFireProductions ...they ranked Carlos at 15 but they left players like Joe Satriani, Stevie Vai, Lowell George, Allen Collins, Gary Rossington, Steve Gaines, Earl Slick, Larry Carlton, Robben Ford, Son House, Albert King, Elvin Bishop,Alvin Lee, Albert Lee, George Terry, John Lee Hooker, Junior Brown, Prince, Tommy Bolin, Django Rhinehart, Joe Bonamassa, Tommy Emmanuel, Walter Becker, Albert Collins, Doyle Bramhall, Mick Ralphs, Mick Taylor, Earl Klugh, Al Dimeola, Chet Atkins, on & on out.

  • @55slice I Only Know Larry, Robben, Elvin Bishop and Mick Taylor but the rest must of been good.

  • @AimNFireProductions,

Then you should check out some of the excellent Tommy Bolin videos I've posted... he was phenominal!

  • @AimNFireProductions ...take a few minutes and look some of those cats up on YouTube. I think you will like most of what you hear...don't forget folks like Leslie West, Kim Simmonds, Rory Gallagher, Billy Gibbons, Chris Anderson, Tommy Crain, Billy Crain, Paul Barrere, Buckethead, JJ Grey, JJ Cale, Johnny Shines, Muddy Waters, Jim Mc Carty, Les Dudek, Vince Gill, Sonny Landreth, Brad Paisley, Jimmy Vaughan, Robert Cray, Johnny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shephard, also.

  • @55slice So true brother!

  • @55slice Left out Chet & Tommy Bolin now that was funny! Surely in jest musta been april fools day? Good thing I know pickin & don't pay attention to what folks are telling me. Thanks. I feel blessed when I hear some of that you mention btw. Rick

  • ...wouldn't matter if it was 'fake' (misrepresented) or not. It's extremely well played. Great download!!!! Thanks a million!

  • Johnny and the Allmans on a track?

    AWESOME

Johnny had a tremendous solo career, but I sure wish Johnny would have joined the Allmans

    The South shall rise again!!!!

  • Wow! I had no idea this existed! Very cool. i had heard that Johnny was considered to hold duane's place. I didn't knbow they recorded. Sounds

good. Obviously Johnny and not Duane. Yes an excellent 'place holder' v. replacement or the unreplaceable. I think Johnny's drug use and lone wolf nature in those days exceeded would have ended things fast but it would have been really cool too! Great post. Thanks!

  • no it isnt fake i . i heard it at greggs apt . on orange street macon in 73 . glad to see its on here

  • @agafarmer,

Thanks for the comment and first hand info.

Makes you wonder what might have happened had Johnny Winter really joined The Allman Brothers Band.

Looking back, it could have worked out well for both of them...

  • @clayopalstar yeah i have always liked johnny he can definitely pick it . but i don't think he would have fit with the southern rock unless southern Texas lol and that s different to me . although him and dickey might have had fun tattooing

  • Am I the only one here that love the drumming by Buddy Miles?

  • @fdscasti Thanks for pointing out Buddy Miles - he truly rounds out the 'dream team' theory!

  • I am huge johnny winter and ABB fan. I think this is fake. But it is fun. I think it is someone copying johnny and dropping it into ABB. Very well done - but it never happened.

  • @chrisbeissert,

This was released by Gregg Allman on "One More Try" in 1999, a collection of rare tracks.

I guess you think Gregg is a liar and a fake, and then Johnny Winter went along with it and never said anything because he's a liar and a fake, too?

(Just trying to see it from your point of view.)

You disrespect them with your comment.

    WTF?

  • @clayopalstar it's hard to see anything from someone else's point of view when they have their head so far up their ass, brother.Have a good day!!

  • @clayopalstar Thanks for upload Bro!....where the hell can somebody get that release?!

  • @chrisbeissert no, that's john...you may be just more used to his straight picking style, while this recording he is just using only slide.

  • this is great but i like the original more, there's um too much slide on this

  • Love Allman Brothers and Johnny Winter!!!

  • Johnny is the GUY ....Great guitarman

  • Amazing! When was this done?

  • @Bopalena, There is no information on this gem from the file I uploaded, but it had to be done after Duane passed in '71 and before we lost Berry Oakley in '72.

  • thanks for posting, very good song.

    i like it*****

  • After remembering this jam session, I think it might fit this situation even better Huichol53.........

  • just great just great thank you

  • Saw ABB in 1971 with the original lineup. They did FOUR ENCORES! (In my humble opine WHIPPING POST (live) is the greatest rock song ever recorded - sorry ZepHeads!) Will never be duplicated. But here - I don't think any four musicians could do this song any better! Johnny W non-stop energy / B. Oakley rock solid innovative jazzy blues bass (never heard any rock bassist like him) / B. Miles tight foundation shining through every opening a perfect fit / G. Allman with that blues feel all his own

  • unbelievable. LOVE

  • What a dream team lineup!

  • imagine having johnny winter , derek trucks, warren haynes butch trucks , jamioe, otiel, greg allman in the same band . that brings the biggest smile.

  • Gregg is just the best bluesman around for vocals!

  • at least this all we have left.

    thanks,

    paul

  • And THIS goes out of print? Typical of society's reaction to incredible music: indifference.

I always thought Johnny would have made a great placeholder in the ABB after Duane's passing. With Johnny's independent nature in wouldn't have lasted long, but imagine the great albums that would have resulted. Sheeiiit.

  • @DarkeningSkies1

    Wow - what an idea!

There is no replacing someone like Duane Allman

But Johnny Winter is as close as you all gonna get in this century

  • @DarkeningSkies1

    Agreed!

Johnny Winter was no Duane Allman, but he was an accomplished blues/slide player for sure... I think he could have done some incredible music with Gregg and company.

  • @clayopalstar pls dont take offense but duane allman wasnt no johnny winter either

i really thank you for this 'tube hearing jdw's take - licks - on

one of the very best allman bros tunes (long long list i know) is

w/o a doubt one of the 10 coolest vids ive ever seen/heard at youtube

really im kinda stunned numb w/ amazement

i never woulda figured gregg's bluesy vocs would work w/ jdw's texas guitar

howl but man was i wrong

this cut is priceless & that's an understatement

    thanx

  • @clayopalstar .....dude Duane said Johnny was the king of the slide so get a grip. I however love Duane as well.

  • @89easygoer,

The comments here seem to be a reaction to Johnny Winter being "compared" to Duane... I'd consider that a nod of respect to Mr. Winter.

Obviously Duane held him in high regard. Enough said.

  • @clayopalstar ....he was no Duane ...he was JOHNNY !!!!!!! when he hit the scene nodody could touch him !!!!!!

  • Sweet groove. The cat's meow.

  • Love this man's voice !!

  • "Make Mama Louise cry" at the H & H

    THANKS

    HI and the LOWS
