hello, i have a 2004 cr125r and i have raced the bike and raced the 125 open class for a long time now, ive kept my bike runnin like brand new and it still makes that noise no matter what i do
my bike does this bought new main bottom end bearings all so had a bit of play in the conrod so replaced that mint now that sound shouldnt be there at all
@xxdestroyerrxx very expensive especially if you dont know what your doing and have to have a shop to do it.. Labor is expensive you could get lucky and just put on some bearings but it could be the crank is shot too.. I had to do a complete over haul on my 2004 kx 125..
Cr125 2000 racer put back togeather after 5 years in peices. LIGHT TOP END NOISE AFTER 2 MIN RIDE
Bottom end was new no movement at TDC just the usuall minimal side movement.
barrel new sleaved honda had to match ports etc, Power valve would jam due to movement if bike on angle. machined up a spacer, minimal movement problem solved
i have a 2001 cr125r and it runs like shit, mine is always fuckin boggin when i twist the throttle real quick when im puttin around, is it supposed to do that, what could cause all this bogging??? and when i rev it out it dont sound smooth like this one does in the video, what do i need to do to make it run perfect, and smooth, and NO BOGGIN??
i have a 2004 cr125r and i bought mine a year ago with oly 4 hours on it and it does this same noise...... i put a new exaust sytem on it and its still the same noise. mine still has a shit tone of power and i race motocross with it so its just how the motor is.
i have the same exact bike and it makes that same noise just not as loud, not sure if its just the video that makes it loud but mine does the same with a whole new top end
exhaust leak maybe? I would think anything producing such a loud noise would break if it was something like the piston or bearings. Also, If the plug is loose and causing this noise I believe it would blow right out of the head at high rpms.
im not sure but i think you might just need to tightn the spark plug or make some sort of adjustment with the plug, i v seen other cr 125s on youtube that made that sound and it was because of the spark plug. im no top notch mechanic im just putting it out there, hope it helps you
to me it sounds like the kickstart is staying engaged, i have a 91 cr125 and if i kick it and i hold the lever down it makes that EXACT noise, but if i release it it goes away, idk y but it sounds like its comming from the top end but for me atleast, its not
@streetlimitz89Streetlimitz. for one its not made to hold it down and two that sounds nothing close to that. have you tried hoaning the cilinder at all?
your fuckin piston is hitting the spark plug dumbass u need a shorter spark plug u must not know how to freakin replace a top end correctly if u cant find out that problem u have to go buy a shorter spark plug dumbass
@angelo8867 did you not watch the video faggot he just bought the fuckin bike and the reason for the video is cause he doesnt know... you are a piece of shit
@angelo8867 i love idiots like you, spark plugs dont even come close to the crown of the piston. "get a shorter plug". i didnt even know you could get shorter plugs. unless this is just one of your idiotic suggestions.
hey i have an 02 cr 125 brand new just bought it from my sisters boyfriend and he bought it new and never rode the thing but the reason why its pinging is because if your running a lower octane than 92 thats what causes the pinging.. i run 91-93 octane and there is still some ping but if i run it lower than i can hear it more.... its nothing to worry about just typical honda 2 strokes.
@crimson22s i have a 01 cr 125 and i run normal gas from a gas station and it never makes a pinging noise. iv riden several other honda 2 strokes that do not make that noise either. it might be 02 and up idk
@OxfordRiders yeah some bikes are more sloppy than others mine runs really crisp and sounds nice when i run a good quality gas. some bikes are just different than others lol
I was a tech for these and that noise sounds ok to me. Some two-strokes are just rattly, this one in particular was famous for it. It should be ok though, it will run flawlessly like that, just obnoxious.
Hey elaprad, Its yz-maniac, We split the cases on my sons 98 cr125 and replaced crank bearings & seals and she quit making that noise, that fixed ours,so im sure yours needs the same thing done. just wanted to up-date you and give you heads-up.
@h4shish know how to read I said "there are no exhaust or intake valve" i didnt talk about the power valve, and he said "its the exhaust valves moving side to side"
i dont know how old the vid is but its eather the crank rod bearing in that case just buy a new crank or its the crank bearings then you need to split the case and put new ones in
EASY...THE VALVES NEED ADJUSTED. ON THE OTHER HAND I HAVE...LETS SEE......5 HONDAS...NO 6...AND THE OLDER ONES ALL DO THAT, ITS VERY COMMON AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD OVER AND OVER THAT ITS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. TRY RUNNING FULL SYNTHETIC OILS. THAT SHUD QUIET IT SOME. ITS NOT A PROBLEM THO
@69EATAPEACH Im a motorcycle tech shut up you dont know shit, doesnt have valves you idiot, the only type of valve in a modern smoker is the powervalve.
@sanmanuelyamaha really asshole? motorcycle that cant put in a set of fork seals....lmao! im NOT a motorcycle and i caN PUT FUCKIN FORK SEALS IN DOUCHE BAG!!!!!!!!! LOL
@sanmanuelyamaha really asshole? motorcycle that cant put in a set of fork seals....lmao! im NOT a motorcycle TECH and i caN PUT FUCKIN FORK SEALS IN DOUCHE BAG!!!!!!!!! LOL
i have a 2004 cr 125 that i just rebuilt and thats the bottom end crank shaft berring its shot mine was like that 1 week ago i just rebuilt the whole thing
WOW u guys arew fuckjing dumb its the powervalvs makin that noise HAHAHA Thats normal for hondas to make that noice, every CR125s and CR250s makes that nose HAHAHA
dunno it is actualy a problem. friend of mine has a 01 CR125 and its makin the exact same sound. Also my Husqvarna SM125 is makin it so dont worry. if it gets louder though then it could be piston slap or somethin.
did you find the problem?? i have a 98 cr 125 and its doing the same thing?? i also put a new cylinder and piston kit (wiesco)and its still making this noise?? i also cleaned the power valves, and the lower rod bearing is good also (no up and down play) im starting to think the power valves need replaced...but who knows??? bike runs great just sounds like this one also?????
@TheYzmaniac I don't think it's a problem. I've done all the same things you have: replaced piston and ring twice since then, cleaned the power valves, replaced reeds with VForce3, installed new fmf exhaust, you name it. Motor runs very strong and smooth, but still has the infamous cr 2-stroke tick. I think it's perfectly normal.
@elaprad good lord that sounds terrible, not the ticking sound but the way its running it sounds like a bloody chainsaw haha. check the bottom end bearing and conrod aswell as the top end. I'd fully rebuild it (split the crankcase and replace all the bearings) since it is an 03 and hasnt had much maintance and repack the muffler.
my bike was making the noise and i replaced the crank and it quit makin the noise or it also might be a stuck ring but since u did the replace ment i dont think so
Well theres not much that can cause that sound, if its low hours as you say then it could be cos the power valve isnt carboned up yet, i know my kx makes a similar sound when i clean my valves, i also saw a fellow who had a similar noise from a set of v force reeds he purchased, as i read your posts and you changed the piston etc we can rule out piston slap and the top end bearing.
My bet is that someone cleaned the power valves prior to you owning it and put reinstalled them incorrectly.
kick start return spring? ... did you check to see if your exhaust valve was carboned up and touching the piston? but i still thing its the kick start return spring
The Honda Automatic Torque Amplification Chamber system works by effectively increasing or decreasing the volume of the exhaust system with a small butterfly valve located just before the exhaust connection. At low RPM a centrifugal crankshaft driven gear opens the valve into a small chamber and increases the volume of the exhaust by allowing the exhaust gases to flow through the chamber. used on CR motocrossers, GP bikes and MVX, NS and NSR road bikes
@mgulay1993 I replace the piston, ring, bearing and rist pin with stock stuff and it did not make a difference. Noise was still there, but the bike rode great for 2 years like that. I'm doing it again, this time with a wiseco top-end kit and cleaning the power valves and exhaust manifold. Hopefully this quiets down the tapping noise. We shall see...
@elaprad dude i got a 05 cr125 and i had the same noise when my bike was running but, i toke apart my powervalve and cleaned it then noise went away. Now im raceing and im running half VP Racing Fuel and half super unleaded and it keep my powervalve spotless!!!!
@nfsstefan my bike has the same problem as this guy. so u think replacing the top end will fix it????its a 03 cr125r. my top end has 10 hours so idk why it would make this noise. and i checked my carb, bottom end,and its all good. like i said my top end has 10 hours so i cant seem to find the problem......any help would be great thanks.
sounds just like a piston slap, but it would be good to change it because if you dont and the piston head breaks then what ever breaks off from the piston will end up on the bottom end and then its fork out some money..
lol no. me and my bro build big bore ice racing bike. cr500, kx500 ect. we big bore port and add oversized carbs and we dont need to rebuild often and the machines we build push 80 hp of two stroke furry. take care of you bikes and they wont blow.
and yea elaprad a top end should take care of your problem but when you have it open check how tight your crank is and examine the cylinder wall
My kx 125 was doing the same thing and this weekend I installed a new wisco top end kit and had the cylinder honed and cross hatched and now she runs smooth, and the noise went away, I figure it was ring slap in the cylinder! GOOD LUCK DUDARONAMOUS!!!!!!!!!!!
dude on 2 strokes sometimes you never now alot of things make the same sound on my bike it was the ribots in the clutch basket water pumped bottom end... yours started up easy im guessing rings.
Sounds like you need to add some fix-a-flat to the front tire and grease your muffler bearings, trust me I have done thousands of them with the same problem, good luck hot rod
Its not in your top end. Its the Crank rod in the bottom end. I just recently had that happen, it starts right up, and runs fine, but it slowly looses power until it goes.
@450rrules what????????? it that were the case it wouldnt even start much less first kick, i broke a ring already, and cracked a piston, they just bog and kill and lose compression, sounds like piston slap, or a bad bearing
@mabawsyacow Couldnt be the giggle pin, this model has the older Depression con rod causing hooker slap. I bet any money its the power valve wing nut. Easy fix is to cut a tampon into 10 pieces and plug up the water jacket so it doesnt get full of space juice, then just turn the piston the other way round and ride the bike wide open throttle for 1 hour with the choke on. Job done.
to me sounds like just a nasty top end bearing and a top end rebuild should resolve the problem, i understand what ganthug07 is sayin about the kickstart it dus make a simular noise but the kick start has fuck all to do with the top end of your engine, top end bearin or sum 1's used a wrong spark plug that whacking off the piston? obviously this video was 2 years ago according to the description...sooo what was the problem? lol mre 2 the point why is this video still on youtube?
My cr85 made that noise and I did nothing about it and it blew up. Turns out a screw came loose in the reeds and got in the cylinder and fucked everything up. So definatley check into it.
Wow I've seen so many ridiculus responses. I think it really sounds like the kickstart isn't settling where it's supposed to, problem? I have no Idea if its a problem or not but i doubt it would hurt any thing. But hopefully you know what I mean when I say the kickstart isn't in the right place. To hear what I'm talking about start the bike and hold the kickstart down and I think thats exactly what sound is coming from your bike.
It's piston slap isn't it? Or is it the rod bearing?

what you have to do is split the cases and replace the main crank bearings and seals. That will fix the noise

i bought a 03 honda cr125r just like yours and it makes the same noise, i wanted to know what did you have to do to fix it?
mgulay1993 1 year ago
@mgulay1993 I replace the piston, ring, bearing and rist pin with stock stuff and it did not make a difference. Noise was still there, but the bike rode great for 2 years like that. I'm doing it again, this time with a wiseco top-end kit and cleaning the power valves and exhaust manifold. Hopefully this quiets down the tapping noise. We shall see...

bad wrist pin is what it sounds like
troy5251 2 years ago
exaclly what mine was.
dragoncustomcycles 2 years ago
sounds just like a piston slap, but it would be good to change it because if you dont and the piston head breaks then what ever breaks off from the piston will end up on the bottom end and then its fork out some money..

nice bike let us know how it goes
thews21 2 years ago
you need to put new rings about every 20 hours
MaLoBoI216 2 years ago
@MaLoBoI216
lol no. me and my bro build big bore ice racing bike. cr500, kx500 ect. we big bore port and add oversized carbs and we dont need to rebuild often and the machines we build push 80 hp of two stroke furry. take care of you bikes and they wont blow.
and yea elaprad a top end should take care of your problem but when you have it open check how tight your crank is and examine the cylinder wall
jiggyboy69 2 years ago
no. maybe if your racing. last ring set i had it lasted me 50 hrs, and they were still in spec.
dragoncustomcycles 2 years ago
ya its def you rings ,the new top end should fix that but be shure to hone you cylinder befor you put it together
Warrock121221 2 years ago
if its not bored u dont wanna hone they are nikasil plated and its for longevity so u dont have to bore and to get it replated its 500$
ktbow123 2 years ago
My kx 125 was doing the same thing and this weekend I installed a new wisco top end kit and had the cylinder honed and cross hatched and now she runs smooth, and the noise went away, I figure it was ring slap in the cylinder! GOOD LUCK DUDARONAMOUS!!!!!!!!!!!
duncan1482 2 years ago
dude on 2 strokes sometimes you never now alot of things make the same sound on my bike it was the ribots in the clutch basket water pumped bottom end... yours started up easy im guessing rings.
MaLoBoI216 2 years ago
yo bro thats how my kawsaki 125 sounded...you mite also have a crack in your cylinder
xxotepgoddessxx 2 years ago
Sounds like you need to add some fix-a-flat to the front tire and grease your muffler bearings, trust me I have done thousands of them with the same problem, good luck hot rod

i no this is out of subject but what is the difference between a cr125 and a cr125r
awe212 2 years ago
There the same.
Rmz250ryder 2 years ago
oh ok thanks
awe212 2 years ago
sounds like a loose bolt.
metalmanguitarist21 2 years ago
Its not in your top end. Its the Crank rod in the bottom end. I just recently had that happen, it starts right up, and runs fine, but it slowly looses power until it goes.
Foxmayne 2 years ago
this problem can solve any cr125 specialist.
aiku119 2 years ago
your piston ring has a chunk taken out of it and it also sounds like yoou piston has some pieces missing to
450rrules 2 years ago
@450rrules what????????? it that were the case it wouldnt even start much less first kick, i broke a ring already, and cracked a piston, they just bog and kill and lose compression, sounds like piston slap, or a bad bearing
ilikpron 2 years ago
yes piston slap
bigwheel555 2 years ago
for all u nobbs out there if the kick start doesnt get put back in its place it make that noise
rtljmc 2 years ago
@rtljmc yea dude its ur kick start mine does the same thing if you dont push it in all the way
kawasaki2245 2 years ago
yea thats what i was saying :)
rtljmc 2 years ago
@rtljmc it not the kick start, thats a pretty "noob" answer, if it was the kickstart he would have known that already
ilikpron 2 years ago
sounds like your giggle pin has come of the laughter shaft or you need a new flange bush
mabawsyacow 2 years ago 11
@mabawsyacow Couldnt be the giggle pin, this model has the older Depression con rod causing hooker slap. I bet any money its the power valve wing nut. Easy fix is to cut a tampon into 10 pieces and plug up the water jacket so it doesnt get full of space juice, then just turn the piston the other way round and ride the bike wide open throttle for 1 hour with the choke on. Job done.
MKUltraProject 1 year ago
viberation or something is loose
atvrider43 2 years ago
to me sounds like just a nasty top end bearing and a top end rebuild should resolve the problem, i understand what ganthug07 is sayin about the kickstart it dus make a simular noise but the kick start has fuck all to do with the top end of your engine, top end bearin or sum 1's used a wrong spark plug that whacking off the piston? obviously this video was 2 years ago according to the description...sooo what was the problem? lol mre 2 the point why is this video still on youtube?
mr47uk08 2 years ago
My cr85 made that noise and I did nothing about it and it blew up. Turns out a screw came loose in the reeds and got in the cylinder and fucked everything up. So definatley check into it.
roplusbo24 2 years ago
it just happend to me on my cr85 its the top end and carank shaft maybe
oneal123abc 2 years ago
Wow I've seen so many ridiculus responses. I think it really sounds like the kickstart isn't settling where it's supposed to, problem? I have no Idea if its a problem or not but i doubt it would hurt any thing. But hopefully you know what I mean when I say the kickstart isn't in the right place. To hear what I'm talking about start the bike and hold the kickstart down and I think thats exactly what sound is coming from your bike.
