  • When I was in London just two weeks ago my friend and I saw that statue and I pointed at it and said "Hey, that's Napoleon!", since Micheal Aranda had said so in one of his videos and I was 100% sure it was correct. My friend replied: "Hrm.. That's weird, Napoleon and England weren't really best friends." And when we got to the statue I felt really stupid since it was... Nelson! Darn you Micheal Aranda....

  • Sadly enough I found out that fact about Big Ben by helping a 10 year old with his school project, apparently 13 years of schooling weren't sufficient enough to teach me

  • hahaha oh my at 0:43 I thought they were talking about the couple that just walked past

  • why would nepoline be on top of nelson's column?

  • yeah it's nelson :D

  • actually i new that about big ben. but i would like to know if its true that the everyone in london set their clocks by big ben.....

  • @CrashTestManiac1 weren't you paying attention big ben is a bell you can't set time to a bell

  • @CrashTestManiac1 no, we set it by greenwich mean time (GMT), though i suppose if you wanted to know the time you could just look at the clock on the tower.

  • It's called St. Stevenson's tower.

  • THANK YOU FOR WEARING GOOD LOOKING GLASSES

  • CharlieissoHOTlike. <3

  • 01:23 is that horse's i hear LOL :D

  • Charlie... you knew the fun fact about the buckingham palace flag from the scary tv lady episode or doctor who...you are a true nerd <3

  • @distinctiveme THE WIRE >:(

  • Of course it's Nelson. Why would we put a frenchman on top of Nelson's column.

  • @SkullJokeBrook Why would we put a Frenchman anywhere?

  • I love the sound of horses footsteps.

  • u was just in Google. auto fill and it said "Charlie McDonnell to be the next doctor who?" i almost giggled in delight.... then i realized that it was fake ... so that's.... awkward....

  • BELFASTTTTTTT -3

  • Belfast yaaay!! Northern Ireland wooooot!! Yayyyy!!! Yay!!!

  • He's so hot with his glasses on!

  • Yes that isn't Napoleon that is Horatio Nelson the British Admiral who won the Battle of Trafalgar. Hence the name Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column. Fun Facts from me :D

  • CHARLIE! The London Eye isn't a Ferris Wheel. It's a scientific observation thing that allows a view of all of London.

Another fun fact! "Downtown" London, the main parts, excluding all the places where people live and stuff (I guess?) is only a square mile or so. Or does it have the radius of a mile? I forget. You can tour the whole thing in a day and a half! (Without, of course, going to the nice local places...)

  • the guy on the pole is Nelson the man who beated thecrap out of Napoleon. So he will not be to pleased with that!

  • didn't know charlie wore glasses!!!!!!!!! :0

  • YAY Belfast!!!!

  • Charlie's wrong! It is a naval misconception that it is only called a jack if it's on a boat. It can be called the Union Jack even when it is not flown at sea.

  • I'm related to Nelson XD he's my greatgreatgreat uncle or something :P

  • i already no that and wrong charlie not nelson horatio nelson

  • @SWAZI95 surely by Nelson he does mean Horatio Nelson (by referring to someone by their second name, it does still refer to them.) And the monument is known as Nelson's Column anyway, so it makes sense that the guy on top is Nelson.

  • I've never heard of a man called napoleon ithink :L

  • I knew everything you said.

  • I wanna go back to London soooooo bad. How bad? SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD.

    Aw, London <3

  • I knew the flag thing :) Doctor who!

  • very clever, very clever indeed

  • the fact about the flag is not entirely true ;-)

  • "We Londoners like our bikes"

    Charlie, you're not a Londoner!

But we adopt you, so it's allll good :)

  • @FranckoPhonie sorry, i'm confused. how is he not a londoner?

  • @Quitamore Charlie is born and bred in Bath...which isn't in London. Now he lives in London, we have basically adopted him as our own :')

  • @FranckoPhonie oh i see :)

  • @Mawok666 As soon as he said it I was like "Rose!"

  • CHARLIE. In GLASSES. ♥

  • Fun fact: Thanks to Charlie im now a devoted Dr Who fan! Thanks a bunch!! =D

  • Why would a statue of Napoleon, the French Emperor, be erected in London?

  • @ImperialGeorge

A good question to make to Michael Aranda, he knows that for sure!!lol

  • By "That Thing," I thought they meant Charlie...

  • hehe cool..

  • he should wear glasses more often!!!

  • See you've been in Britain for however long, and you saw the Queen. I LIVE in Britain and have never seen her once.

  • Union flag - that's from Doctor Who, The Idiot's Lantern! :D

  • @KatzePiano the ferris wheel was in the first episode, wasn't it? wow, the doctor likes london.

  • @OwlCityFan26 Yep. And in 'Aliens of London' some aliens crash into what we now know is not Big Ben. :)

  • @KatzePiano wow. I have only officially seen the first episoide, but I'm already hooked. I'm saving up money to buy the boxed seasons.

  • @OwlCityFan26 Yay! Another 'Who' convert. You're going to love it. :D

  • @KatzePiano I know I will, I've seen like every doctor who thing available on youtube :D My friend reccomended it, and then I saw how much Charlie loved it and looked it up. SO glad I did!

  • And u can't remember what bit if the welsh flag is in it

  • Also the union flag is not the flag if England as some people think it is a flag that marks the union of Scotland Wales and England it is combined of the White background and red cross if England based on St. george,s cross the blue bsmackground and x cross of Scotland it is an x because st Andrew the patron saint of Scotland was crucified on one

  • It I'd not called the tower its called the Westminster clock tower. The tower is at the tower of london which was a castle then a prison then an armoury

  • Why would if be napoleon we hate him we crushed his army's and imprisoned him on an island it's called nelsons column and the man on it is admiral horatio nelson the greatest naval tactician and head of the navy who ever lived I know a descendent if his

  • is this weird... I knew all the real facts before this vid...

  • good job charlie! your so smert! x)

  • Charlie SO got that fun fact about the flag from Doctor Who!

  • Haha, I've heard people saying it's Napoleon before too.. Not sure why we'd have a statue of the guy who wanted to invade us on top of a plinth in central London.

He'd be turning in his grave if he knew people thought he was Napoleon, considering he was fighting against him!

  • It always bothers me when I see that Charlie is with a female.. :(

  • He's so hot, and smart... I love him.

  • Charlie you're so freakin' hot -33

  • Hey look it's that thing!

  • Red hair + glasses + Charlie = every female Nerdfighter in love.

  • @Plottoberry Correction!! Red hair+ glasses + Charlie= EVERYONE(STRAIGHT,BI,GAY, AND ALINES ALIKE) IN LOVEEEE!

  • @MissSeriouslyRandom Omnisexuals for the win! (see what I did there?)

  • @Joee003 OMG! me too :D

  • Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal - nerd.. HAHA .. Oh - HEY, we got the stick at the end in our city too :0!!

  • Look how crap our british weather looks =(

  • The raoyal standard is the flag that is used when the queen is at buckingham palace not the union flag true fact!

  • Horatio Nelson is my great great great great great great great great uncle

    lols

  • Horatio Nelson...

  • Big Ben is actually called St. James' clock tower, I believe. The Tower = Tower of London.

  • how does he know all those random things?

  • union jack fact was in doctor who! :) lol charlie such a dw nerd.. like me :P

  • @HanHiyaaa and me

  • Another fun fact! The Queen is in Buckingham Palace if the Union Jack is being flown, but if the flag is flown upside down, it means that the Queen is dead. Unfortunately however, when the wind changes direction or if viewed from the other side, the flag can appear to be upside-down, meaning most people will not immediately run amok seeing it. Also hardly anyone knows whicih way up the flag is supposed to be so this isn't the most efficient way to notify people of an upheaval of the monarchy.

  • omg i was standing where charlie stood :o that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy

  • Fun Fact: DId you know that I absolutely love Charlie?

  • When u sed that thing u flicked ur head back lol

  • @HiccupHippo5000 He was pointing his head at "that thing" he didn't flick his head back for like a reaction or something.

  • (vote every day so i can have money to go on more fun adventures and see ) ? ^v is't likes, dislikes

  • "It's actually called the Union Flag, it's only called the Union Jack when it's flown at sea."

I am proud to say that I already knew this from Doctor Who.

  • @EmmyBea I was literally just thinking that :)

  • only knew that union jack thing because of doctor who.

  • Charlie, I knooow you picked the Union Jack/Union Flag fact up from Rose Tyler :P

  • HORSE POLICE MAN!!!! we don't have those in HK :(

  • GOT ANOTHER!

Nelson's Column used to also be in Dublin, however called Nelson's Pillar! It was blown up by the IRA circa 1960's. Reportedly they just placed a bomb inside that destroyed the upper half of the structure. A few days later the Irish army Engineer corps came and deemed the remainder of the structure unfit for restoration and blew up the left over, but blew most of the windows out from O'Connell street - this was more damage than the IRA bomb.

  • AH!! I know something Charlie doesn't know! It's called St. Stephens tower.... And I'm.... out.

  • Charlie looks like Ron weashly with glasses.I think he have gotten hotter. If he didn't cut his red hair.

  • Haha Charlie looks soo nerdy but cute at the same time with his glasses :P

  • charlie wears glasses O.O

  • Is it bad that I almost believed him about the bicycle? :S

  • @xLordIEvilno65x it's better than actually believing him and googling it, like I did, haha :p

  • @xLordIEvilno65x wait... it's not real?? DARN.

  • GOD that weoukld be a furking large bike... cuz the big wheel was meant tpo be a tyre on a bike. Hell...

  • how is it that you got to make this video with charlie?

    did you already know him?

  • charlie with glasses=ME DROOL.

  • @SIMPLEman612 Are you sure your not thinking of the Tate Modern in London? The Louvre is in France :)

  • charlie's a nerd !

  • Erm, actually, the Union Flag being flown means that the Queen actually isn't at home, it's so that there's a flag to be flown at half mast should there be a tragedy or the country goes into mourning. When the Queen is there, the Royal Standard is flown.

  • The louvre is in Paris and houses the mona Lisa painted by leonardo da Vinci, also nelson was napoleons nemesis and defeated him at sea in the battle of trafalgar preventing the French invasion.

  • @SIMPLEman612 okay for now, i'm assuming you're a troll. if you're actually interesting in figuring out which one of us is right, how about looking up the Louvre on wikipedia?

i live in london. there is no louvre here. i think i know my home town a little better than you do.

  • @SIMPLEman612 dude i live in london. the lourve is in france.

  • I pretty sure Charlie got that fact about the flag from Doctor who :D

  • @SIMPLEman612 Well that's odd because the last time I was in Paris I visited the Louvre. So unless there are two famous art museums named "The Louvre", you're wrong.

  • Comment removed

  • @SIMPLEman612 The Louvre is in Paris.

  • I miss London!!!! :'(

My friends Aunt did the voice-over thing-y for it. Fact.

That's probably only interesting to me.

  • lol yaaaaaay :D London is win if you dont live there lol....no, I dont live there but mah brother did! he hated it LOL

  • actually yes, Charlie, I did know that it's called the Union Flag, not the Union Jack. Rose Tyler told me.

  • Fun fact (not so much), i've been in england for like, a long time now and i've never seen the queen in person and you just being here for some hours saw her :p

  • He's Not Called Nelson, he's called Horatio Nelson...I'm a Nerd -_-

  • The second fact definitely makes sense.

He's the epitome of adorableness. Nawhhhhhhh. :)

  • hahaha, "Hey look its that thing!" Best way to introduce monuments.

  • Napoleon? DYNAMITE?!

  • @TheRealLadyLawliet no, actually, I'm pretty sure he's referring to Napoleon Bonaparte, the Emperor of France.

  • @bonnieisepiccool I know, I was joking XD

  • It's called st stevenson's tower.

  • I learned the Union Jack thing on Doctor Who XD

  • michael aranda... you are wrong :)

  • I'm willing to bet Charlie learned the Union Jack fact from the Doctor Who episode The Idiot's Lantern. :)

  • I knew all of the true facts! Admittedly I only knew the union jack/flag one because of doctor who.

  • Oh golly gosh, I already had this thing about boys in glasses and a separate thing about Charlie before watching this video. I think I've just died and gone to heaven.

  • Charlie in glasses *JIZZES*
