When I was in London just two weeks ago my friend and I saw that statue and I pointed at it and said "Hey, that's Napoleon!", since Micheal Aranda had said so in one of his videos and I was 100% sure it was correct. My friend replied: "Hrm.. That's weird, Napoleon and England weren't really best friends." And when we got to the statue I felt really stupid since it was... Nelson! Darn you Micheal Aranda....
Sadly enough I found out that fact about Big Ben by helping a 10 year old with his school project, apparently 13 years of schooling weren't sufficient enough to teach me
@CrashTestManiac1 no, we set it by greenwich mean time (GMT), though i suppose if you wanted to know the time you could just look at the clock on the tower.
u was just in Google. auto fill and it said "Charlie McDonnell to be the next doctor who?" i almost giggled in delight.... then i realized that it was fake ... so that's.... awkward....
Yes that isn't Napoleon that is Horatio Nelson the British Admiral who won the Battle of Trafalgar. Hence the name Trafalgar Square and Nelson's Column. Fun Facts from me :D
CHARLIE! The London Eye isn't a Ferris Wheel. It's a scientific observation thing that allows a view of all of London.
Another fun fact! "Downtown" London, the main parts, excluding all the places where people live and stuff (I guess?) is only a square mile or so. Or does it have the radius of a mile? I forget. You can tour the whole thing in a day and a half! (Without, of course, going to the nice local places...)
Charlie's wrong! It is a naval misconception that it is only called a jack if it's on a boat. It can be called the Union Jack even when it is not flown at sea.
@SWAZI95 surely by Nelson he does mean Horatio Nelson (by referring to someone by their second name, it does still refer to them.) And the monument is known as Nelson's Column anyway, so it makes sense that the guy on top is Nelson.
I wanna go back to London soooooo bad. How bad? SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD.
@KatzePiano I know I will, I've seen like every doctor who thing available on youtube :D My friend reccomended it, and then I saw how much Charlie loved it and looked it up. SO glad I did!
funny how many people are reminded of Doctor Who at 0:55 although it's from 2006, from an episode in the second series called The Idiot's Lantern. Rose to Mr. Connolly ^^
Also the union flag is not the flag if England as some people think it is a flag that marks the union of Scotland Wales and England it is combined of the White background and red cross if England based on St. george,s cross the blue bsmackground and x cross of Scotland it is an x because st Andrew the patron saint of Scotland was crucified on one
It I'd not called the tower its called the Westminster clock tower. The tower is at the tower of london which was a castle then a prison then an armoury
Why would if be napoleon we hate him we crushed his army's and imprisoned him on an island it's called nelsons column and the man on it is admiral horatio nelson the greatest naval tactician and head of the navy who ever lived I know a descendent if his
Haha, I've heard people saying it's Napoleon before too.. Not sure why we'd have a statue of the guy who wanted to invade us on top of a plinth in central London.
He'd be turning in his grave if he knew people thought he was Napoleon, considering he was fighting against him!
Another fun fact! The Queen is in Buckingham Palace if the Union Jack is being flown, but if the flag is flown upside down, it means that the Queen is dead. Unfortunately however, when the wind changes direction or if viewed from the other side, the flag can appear to be upside-down, meaning most people will not immediately run amok seeing it. Also hardly anyone knows whicih way up the flag is supposed to be so this isn't the most efficient way to notify people of an upheaval of the monarchy.
Nelson's Column used to also be in Dublin, however called Nelson's Pillar! It was blown up by the IRA circa 1960's. Reportedly they just placed a bomb inside that destroyed the upper half of the structure. A few days later the Irish army Engineer corps came and deemed the remainder of the structure unfit for restoration and blew up the left over, but blew most of the windows out from O'Connell street - this was more damage than the IRA bomb.
Erm, actually, the Union Flag being flown means that the Queen actually isn't at home, it's so that there's a flag to be flown at half mast should there be a tragedy or the country goes into mourning. When the Queen is there, the Royal Standard is flown.
The louvre is in Paris and houses the mona Lisa painted by leonardo da Vinci, also nelson was napoleons nemesis and defeated him at sea in the battle of trafalgar preventing the French invasion.
@SIMPLEman612 okay for now, i'm assuming you're a troll. if you're actually interesting in figuring out which one of us is right, how about looking up the Louvre on wikipedia?
i live in london. there is no louvre here. i think i know my home town a little better than you do.
@SIMPLEman612 Well that's odd because the last time I was in Paris I visited the Louvre. So unless there are two famous art museums named "The Louvre", you're wrong.
Fun fact (not so much), i've been in england for like, a long time now and i've never seen the queen in person and you just being here for some hours saw her :p
Oh golly gosh, I already had this thing about boys in glasses and a separate thing about Charlie before watching this video. I think I've just died and gone to heaven.
