Yes. Very Nice. Just got mines Friday. 555m GPU, but my CPU is 2nd Gen. i7-2670QM 2.2-3.1Ghz. My Y570 is Equivalent to the M14x, but with a 15.6" screen.
Hello. I just got my y570 and i have a quick question. When i turn my nvidia on it says " Nvidia GPU activity : None" Does that mean its not actually working. If so how can i turn it on so it is running when im playing my games? Idk if it matters but im playing vindictus, dragon nest, maplestory and dc universe online. Thanks xD
@KyuNube there is this little silver button on the front portion of th elaptop where it opens. look on the bottom right and the litle silver knob and flick that. a white light should turn on. then go to control panel and go to nvidia settings and you can choose which card to use or if you want auto switch
So i just received my Y570 laptop today and i love it. My volume controls are all pink at every angle i turn it. Is there any way i can make them pure white. Thanks xD
its pretty good i must say. the keyboard needs getting used to but other than that its really fast can play alot of new games and runs quietly all the time other than gaming.
Trouble. I just bought this machine and I can run Rage very smoothly with little problem. But Dragon Age Origins and Deus Ex HR are lagging almost to the point of unplayability. Help please. P.S. Yes I've already checked, both games are (ostensibly) running on the Nvidia GPU.
one question , how is work your computer with external speakers or headphones ? don t you have a static noise ? because i do , im curious if is a general problem or is just mine ... so i would be very happy for a response :)
@jhonertwert - I had some specific questions about this computer...
1) is the headset static unbearable? like so annoying you wouldnt buy it.
2) I've heard from other reviews that its not worth the price because the CPU Benchmark is avg for an i5 and that the HDD(5400rpm) is quite slow and not on par with a 700$+ computer
3) I'm interested in a computer that could last me around 3-4 years of use.... (with the right care of course ;) ) Is the parts specifically hardware worth the investment?
2. I can't comment on that, it's been over 4 months now so perhaps there are better options. I can't think of anything that compares for the price though. (if you're paying 700+for the i5 you are not getting the best deal)
3. It sure will, but remember technology keeps advancing, the best time to buy is now :D!
Do you have to manually switch the graphics card everytime? I thought it came with NVIDIA Optimus which automatically switches from the Intel HD 3000 to the GT 555M when you run a 3D game O.O Please confirm :)
@thisisgrapes123 Idk, I prefer this. It's like a manual switch to turn the graphics card on and off. You can also set up optimus to switch back and forth for specific programs, but it's much easier (for me) to just leave it off unless I need it.
I was hesitant to make a major purchase from a brand I don't know very well (Lenovo) but the specs included for this price just couldn't be beat. Can anyone attest to the long term reliability of Lenovo in general?
I just purchased this same laptop only it has a 750gb HD. Its at NewEgg right now as of 9/15/2011 for ONLY $699 with free shipping. It your into this laptop, you better jump as I did on the price. Great professional review. Thanks.
I'm planning on buying this laptop, but I'm not sure if I should. I'm planning on using this for the next 4 years? I'm going to university as an architecture student, would you recommend it? I wanted to get the ThinkPad W520 but it's so pricey, so I'm looking at this as another option. Also, got any other laptops in mind for an architecture student? Really need your help, thanks. Great review btw. :)
@vaietehQ It should have the power and (the i7) cpu necessarily to render and run all the programs necessary, I might consider purchasing a higher tier laptop. I know at my dads company (architecture) they just replaced their old laptops with Dell Latitudes, might be worth a look. Also, I might opt for a 14 when it comes to school and such. I use my netbook for portability and I imagine lugging around my 15.6 inch would be a pain.
@jhonertwert I'm not very good with knowing what would fit AutoCad, but I've got a special deal with Lenovo for the ThinkPad T420s, with i7 dual core processor and it's a 14" screen + anti-glare. Would that be alright? I like the ThinkPads for their durability and performance but I'm not sure if it's up for the next (hopefully) 3 years of being a laptop for an architecture student.
Hey dude, I should be getting the i7 model of this computer very soon. I was noticing that a while back people had been complaining about the graphics updates. Something about Nvidia not having an update that supported the GT 555m along with the Intel graphics? I was just wondering if you were familiar with that, and if you know anything about it getting fixed along with possible new updates that might have recently come out. Thanks alot. :)
@MikeyKrafty The latest graphics update on Lenovo's site for the Y570 is in May/June, but the generic drivers directly from NVIDIA work just fine. I have seen a couple of those too but those were months ago. Since the generic updates work just fine, I can't find any qualms with the lack of updates (some users have reported a small increase in FPS after the latest one released in early August).
Ordered the Y470 a couple days ago. Two questions:
1) About how long did it take for your laptop to ship? I got mine from the Lenovo website too.
2) Is there anything you can do to fix the headphone issue? I'm assuming this is a problem on the Y470 too. I thought I saw a fix for it somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.
@xMattDrumz 1. It took about 2 weeks. Came when UPS said it would.
2. Someone said making sure your wifi was set to max through power options took the sound away. I haven't been noticing it recently besides during start up. I personally don't notice it enough to be bothered.
@jhonertwert That's good to hear. On my current laptop, I always have headphones on while using it. However, I think that is mostly because the speakers on this laptop are pretty bad. I may not even use headphones that often anymore because I've heard that the speakers in the y470/y570 are really good. And yes, I think that was the "fix". I'll have to see if that works when I get mine, if I have the problem.
@noventar The build quality is pretty solid, hinges included, the only thing that annoys me is the somewhat less up to par bezel around the screen, which often feels cheap compared to the rest of the notebook.
@seanmhobson I just went into programs and features and uninstalled everything I didn't want, lenovo includes instillation files for their bloatware (most of it) in a seperate partition, so if you find out you might actually want to try it out later it's pretty simple to re-install the software.
can't wait for the y580!

Could you benchmark a game in low settings @ native res (for example JC2, BC2, BF3 or other) and post the min, max and avg here. All same settings OFC
1) on 670 mhz on core clock on the GPU
2) 760 mhz on core clock on the GPU
Thanx a lot in advance! I would like to see/know the difference between gt 540m, gt 550m and gt 555 on different systems!

@setakisuna I don't think it's that heavy, a y470 might be better suited for travel though just because of the y570's extra width.
