Yes, I have to call bullshit on the Space Needle collapse too. Steel, not reinforced concrete, construction. Don't know if it would fare any better, but really!
Anyone remember the Earthquake in Seattle quite a few years ago???
Correct me if i'm wrong but i think the Space Needle in Seattle can take a pretty big hit in case the whole world goes to hell. I think The Space Needle can take upwards of a 8.0 or maybe a 9.0+ Earthquake. If i'm wrong someone can correct me.
Here's another tidbit this movie missed. if there were going to be a major tectonic event from Seattle to Southern California, it would more likely be the entire West coast of the U.S. shifting northwest, not form a new island as shown at the end of this video.
Haha It is kinda funny because the space needle is not concrete it is a high strength metal. Also looking at the video now I have no idea what direction they intended the space needle to be falling because I don't remember any buildings that look like that that far away from the needle. Anyway cool seen though!

I live 30 miles northeast of San Francisco & have been through earthquakes. Isn't the water UNDER the Golden Gate Bridge awfully calm looking in this video. I think it's a big mistake. When Loma Prieta hit, we felt it all the way in Sacramento where I was living at the time. The water in the swimming pool some 30 feet away from our door splashed against our door. I've felt quakes from 20-30 miles away and when I moved into my apt. there was a quake 15 miles away. This building moved like jello.
This movie sucked, 0:10 why the hell is the space needle cracking like concrete, it's made almost entirely out of steel.
Steel bends and warps, if their would be a big enough earthquake it collapse similar to how a crane does by bending itself into a big pile of scrap metal.
@violinman07 Actually, LA is in Southern CA and the Cascadia subduction zone is almost at the Oregon border. Southern CA is only strike-slip and thrust faults which have never in recorded history produced anything larger than a richter-9 quake. Also, the idea that the land would "open up" like in this scene is highly unlikely as the ground is actually compressing in tectonic quakes... the movie is exciting to watch, but it plays on our general lack of knowledge of geology.
@tomksf ur right...I had to go back and think about that lol the Cascadia Subduction Zone is along with the Juan de Fuca Ridge around Oregon and Washington. Can you tell me anything about the Magnetic Field Reversal???
The 10.5 earthquake destroy the ground on the goverment oh L.A and S.F aka San Francisco it more worst by the brige of the seattle to the 2-5 al the way to 9-5 on 10-5 it may have more the difficult and earthquake too strong, it also fake.
We will not know what a mega earthquake does to a major high rise city until one happens. Yes there have been some in the 7's but there has yet to be a 9.0 (give or take a few .'s) in a high rise city like L.A., San Francisco, or Seattle. I'm near Seattle and if Cascadia goes with it's predicted 8.5-9.5 it's anyone's guess as to the damage....
they shouldnt of made the name of this movie 10.5 because in 2012 [the movie] they said that the earth quake in there was 10.5....dont you think that it would do more damage like in 2012 than just bring a bridge down..
Wasn't this from a TV miniseries with one of the Dukes of Hazard in it? I think the Space Needle will be one of the last structures to go in a big quake, considering how it is built. The Golden Gate Bridge, not so sure...
I used to live in Seattle, still visit every few months. The Space Needle in the video crumbled like concrete, it's actually made of steel, not to mention there's a whole glass structure wrapped around the feet. That movie was terribly inaccurate.
The goverment was actually stupid enough not evacuate around 10 million people when they knew about an earthquake but still nice clip from the movie 10.5
