When banking a ball off one cushion finding the mirror image point on the rail is just the first step. How far away from the cushion the object ball is and the speed and spin on the cueball needed to play position on your next shot all affect the point on the rail you need to hit on the rail to bank the ball. Banks have little to do with geometry because the the cueball and object balls are always spinning and curving after and sometimes before contact with the rail. 1. Banking 2. Banking+shape
yeah its a crock. There's actually a mathematical way to do it or if you have a good eye for it right away. The mirror shows you if you can make it as-is or if you need to make an adjustment. Stay tuned, I will be making a few videos myself in the future if you wanna learn how to shoot Baltimore style.
@lohisc Imagine that you're hitting it at just the right strength, no tricks whatsoever. It'll form a triangle (without the base). If you draw a line in the middle of it, the angle on the left is equal to the angle on the right. Assuming you're doing everything just right.
Just like how light gets reflected off a mirror. If it comes at a 45 degree angle, it'll bounce off at a 45 degree angle.
When strength comes into the equation, it becomes more complicated. :)
@lohisc The ball will come off the rail at the same angle it goes into the rail. If you shoot into the rail at 45 degrees, it will come off at 45 degrees. All banking and kicking systems are based on this principle. Unfortunately this isn't always true in real-world conditions, and the rebound angle can be manipulated by many factors, such as speed and spin.
@concussedcarneous - Loree is from South Carolina and Johnny is from Georgia so they have an accent. It should also be noted that Loree was the youngest 14.1 champ in the country at age 15, and Johnny has won more tours than he can count. They're better than you can imagine, so the accent shouldn't really matter imho.
