This is the old Southern Railway route. The last major hub for this train was Columbia, SC, but it may have originated in Charlotte, NC. It could terminate in AUG., but it could be on its way to Macon or Savannah. The Cola to Aug line is the same line where the Graniteville wreck occured in January 2005.
None of the Throughway trains through Augusta terminate in Augusta. Only the Locals which this isn't one. Looking back at this video this was more than likely NS 155 (Linwood, NC- Savannah, GA). And also 155 only stops at Devine Jct. in Columbia to change crews, it doesn't even touch the Yard. So the last yard would've been Rock Hill or "major" would've been it's originating point: Linwood. And this is Norfolk Southern's R-Line: (Charlotte, NC-Augusta, GA). South of AUG is the D-Line to Millen.
@rsideballa75 Once again, I go back to my childhood. I remember seeing trains on this line go through Ridge Spring, where my aunt and uncle live. In the 60's, there was a passenger train that went by, followed by a freight later. Ditto for the return to Columbia. Passenger service ended probably in the late 60's. But a passenger train does come from Altoona, PA every year for the Master's Golf Tournament.
Guys, to those of you arguing about horns, wow! You are railfans cursing at each other! I guess I'm getting old because growing up I remember that railfans could always disagree over stuff like this and still respectf each other. Anyway, just do the RESEARCH then post.. The MAJORITY of NS units are equipped with Nathan P5 and K5La horns. This is a "P" series horn. As the "P"s wear out, they will be replaced with the new "K3 and K5 "LLA" series. Let's be cool and support each other, guys :)
beutiful horn. awesome video, favorite :D ignore all those horn comments below, im sorry but some railfans really need to stop arguing over "what horn" is on a train. either way its awesome!
wtf ok im a city boy so i never seen no shit like this a train comming down the street like that but tell me does the train have to obay the red lights
Are you sure fellas (or ladies)? This sounds more like some variant of a P5 to me. It doesn't sound like its old cast, but it definitely has a Southern Rwy 5 chime feel to it.
Actually your the fucking idiot. Ive had this locomotive on our yard job before and it IS a P3. And evidently you cant hear anything because it sounds nothing like a S3L. If it WAS a S3L the #2 bell wouldnt be REVERSED! Which it is.
It sounds NOTHING LIKE A P3. HORNS can be configured differently. Up here we have a P5 In the config of the K5LA so it dont draw attention to complaining neightbors. So FYI this is a S3L. FUCKHEAD. END of discussion.
No im not gonna shut up. Why dont you shut up you little fucking teenage foamer. Come up with a new reply when you know what the fuck your talking about.
I live here and those trains run pretty darn slow. So those drivers are trying to get across so they do not sit for twenty minutes or more with no other way to go around. May seem risky, and could be so, but the train is going quite slowly. Awesome video ! I live across the river that train bridge comes across and that horn is so awesome that I can hear it at home several miles away ! Thanks for sharing with everyone !
how fast was he going? and he was missing a ditch light only one was working. and as for the cars...thats their dumbass fault if they get hit not the enigineers he can't do anything about them
Fuck, if I were the Loco-Driver... I would be crapping myself coming down that street, it's like the cars just don't give a fcuk the train is coming, look how they just cross almost str8 across infront of the incoming train w/out a frecken' care in the world, nor a care for their own safety..
Not like in a car, you "could not possibily" hear that bloody frecken' loud horn", now is it...
Actually... it is the people driving in thier vehicles who oughto be the ones crapping themselves. If the engineer is obeying all of the rules and regulations in a restriction zone, then he is doing his part and has nothing to feel guilty about, but if people are not being cautous drivers, then they are asking for trouble.
I paced trains to find that it's 10mph and for CSX which doesn't really street run, but passes through a LOT of crossings in town it's 15mph for them.
The lights look like they turn green for the train when it is near and stays green. This is the prime example as to why the railroad has to blow the horn too much. What ticks me off the most is cops do it their self too. Cops never stop people from running the railroad crossing lights. I bet this town wants a quiet zone, YEAH RIGHT!
The reason he's laying on the horn like that is because of the five or six examples of what not to do when a train is in the vicinity. Drivers don't care that the opposing train is laying on it's horn because of them. The GMC stopping in the middle of the road was darwinism 101. Perk up your ears you dimwit drivers, you've been caught not only by a camera but also a possible locomotive camera.
Its amazing more accidents dont occur with street running like this. Do the traffic lights turn red for the side streets or do they keep the normal pattern? Just trying to tell if al lthose cars are trying to beat the train ro if they have a green light. And that P5 horn is awesome.
it'd suck if the signals were red and you had to cross the street and that train was sitting there.. lol

I wish they'd bring back passenger service, as well as the caboose to the train.

i think they installed a tun signal instead of ditchlights.

Did the train have to follow traffic lights?
Enzo20061234 1 year ago
@Enzo20061234 train has the right of way they do not stop for lights.

TRIPOD!
Or brace against something solid.
Interesting.
Do traffic lights change to stop cross traffic?
Thank you for posting this.
Why is whistle (horns) so variable?
robertgift 1 year ago
That would be scary and awkward to be driving down the street and a train approaching behind you or in front of you.
