  • Where's is 1:25 from?

  • mariah slayed with her soprano range. her vocal tone is so much higher then arethas the voice of a true coloraltura soprano :)

  • Aretha has more ease and power in the high belting area than damn near any other singer that ever was, but I like and prefer Mariah's vocal tone here to that of Aretha's (if I am to be entirely honest)... I mean, she literally sounds like an ANGEL at points in this video. The Queen and the Songbird both slay everything though, so in the end, they both win :P

  • I think Aretha sounds more like she's yelling rather than singing in some parts. Mariah's 0:54 with Outside was the shit and the Honey bit afterwards was too. Both are great singers :D

  • Wow. For like 90% of the video it was a mistake pitting these two against each other. Aretha SLAYED...except for on her last two notes! The one from "Loverboy" is my absolute favorite!

  • I think Aretha hits those notes more easily because her natural voice is high, while Mariah's natural voice (I think) is actually low so she'd put a little more effort when she belts above F5 (she stated before she considered herself an alto).

  • mariah ...........

  • Mariah ! She totally destroyed Aretha :)

  • 4:35 which song is this???

  • @PrincessShiba85 0:54 Outside, 4:35 Subtle Invitation

  • @MimiDahhling30 thanks!

  • 00:54 which song is this?

  • aretha song at 4:53?

  • NOW THIS IS A VOCAL BATTLE!! FOR GET THE OTHER SINGER VS SINGER BATTLES!! ^_^

  • The messiah of course! Nah I give this to Aretha even tho im a lamb. Aretha low notes and highs...insane. also Mariah is great but she used a lot of production to get her notes(she is hitting them just in multiple takes) Aretha wasn't privy to that technology and well shit o.o

  • @shaunmike i agree taht aretha wins this but mariah's studio belts are not that enhanced(if at all). if you listen to her live G5 and G#5 belts you'll see that many of them have the same quality as her studio belts.

  • por siempre mariah la mejor

  • @Aontiverozol Actually depending on the severity of the nodules surgery isn't always required, countless people have rid them selves of nodules by going on vocal rest for long periods of times. And the surgery isn't so dangerous , it's simple really unless your julie andrews who basically had her vocal chords reconstructed.

  • @Aontiverozol Celine recovered from her nodules though by going on a 6 month vocal rest...?

  • What's the song at 3:48? I listened to it before and I loved it, but I can't remember the name :S

  • @stardusth2o Mine Again :) You should do a vocal showcase of it, her vocals are amazing.

  • @MimiDahhling30 That's right! I love that song, I lip synched to it a couple times XD

And that's a good idea, because her singing WAS insane in that song.

  • @stardusth2o Haha! If you do it, don't forget the F#7 chirp at the end. xD

  • @Aontiverozol I think it's the edge of her mixed belt that almost transposes to head voice. I believe to have heard that couple of time in vision of love live version. What I think about MC's mixing is she is not so great at it. Her voice is naturally light but rather thick which is absolutely not a good type to do mix. Aretha is obviously in contrast. Celine can mix well coz her voice is thiner than MC.

  • @Aontiverozol okeedokee. thanks for clearing that up for us ^_^

  • @Aontiverozol i wasn't talking about the G5 belt i was referring to that high pitched noise that illusionwhoever was bragging about.

  • aretha song at 4:53?

  • now Aretha, can you hit the part 3:02 that HIGH..?! lol i don't think so.

  • @iLLusion625 there's definitely not a high note at 3:02. what are you talking about?

  • @ablackguy123456789 whoot?? are you tone deaf?? can't you hear that super high note at 3:02.. A whistle register note.? you sure?

  • @iLLusion625 that barely even counts as a whistle note. women's voices always accidentally hit high pitches mariah's just happens to accidentally go higher than most because of her whistle register so it's really not that impressive lol

  • @ablackguy123456789 hahahahaha... did you say "REALLY NOT THAT IMPRESSIVE"??? hahaha... i can't believe you said that.. if it's really not that impressive then I DARE YOU OR ARETHA TO DO THAT.!.. BWAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHA....

  • @iLLusion625 sweetie, that accidental whistle interrupted her transition between notes so it was basically a voice crack. nothing to be proud of.

  • @ablackguy123456789 This is not whistle. This is a consequence of mixed voice.

  • @rekupp really because i only hear mariah's voice make that noise not patti, aretha, whitney, or jennifer who also use mixed voice

  • @ablackguy123456789 Jennifer Hudson does it...you need better ears. This is not whistle voice. One does not simply "slip" into whistle register.

  • @rekupp i need better ears? lol ok mariah actually does accidentally hit whistle notes sometimes. talk about needing better ears...

  • @ablackguy123456789 This is NOT whistle register.

  • @rekupp if it's not a whistle then what is it? a wheeze?

  • @ablackguy123456789 I AGREE!lol i do the same all the time,lol

  • @lathanregintree yeah exactly. it's great for dramatic affect or whatever but it's hardly anything to brag about especially if you overdo it like miss lea michele.

  • @rekupp i do all the time,lol when i belt to high ^_^

  • @ablackguy123456789 what's so impressive is her ability to control it, not that just she can go high.

  • now Aretha, can you hit the part 3:02 that HIGH..?! lol i don't think so.

  • why does mariah notes sound higher even though they are the same note

  • i'm so tired of people acting like mariah can't hit G5s and G#5s live. just because she doesn't do it as often as aretha does doesn't mean she can't! not every voice can handle singing 80 G5s and G#5s per concert and why bother when F5s and F#5s will still impress listeners?

  • tough choice. aretha's G5s and G#5s are so strong and powerful. but mariah's G5s and G#5s are very pretty and resonant. hmmm i pick aretha :) great video!

  • whit this notes... Mariah is an Alto? , Godness! Genuine Soprano!

  • @michaeldriggers123 Outside

  • whats the song mariah is singing at 1:39 ?

  • @Anime00Freak anytime you need a friend remix

  • @misses18yearold THANX ALOT ! <3

  • I love them both but Mariah is my fave of all time!!

  • Everytime I watch this I try and push for that magical G5!! Unfortunately my mix will only take me to F#5 at a push.

Amazing videooo! Aretha makes me wanna catch the spirit whatever she sings but Mariah's G5s on Anytime You Need A Friend do me IN EVERY SINGLE FUCKING TIME! THAT RICHNESS AND RESONANCE IS JUST UN-MATCHED AT THAT PITCH!!!

  • @SymphonicSage12 IMO, Mariah is more of a lyric soprano as her upper-chest register sounds healthier than her lower register. I'd say Mariah wins on this one, but live wise, Aretha wins easily.

  • @joewhite31 I consider her a contralto. Sure her Upper register sounds healthier, but she finds most ease in her lower. Plus her base tone is low, she just has a massive range. But it's whatever, I don't really care for voic types, she can sang her butt off hahahah.

  • @joewhite31 Nope Alto wit ha 5 octave range

  • I tasted what heaven was during 5 min...Thanks

  • i pick mariah although her voice isn't as strong as aretha's her resonance and clarity is amazing!

  • Oh and wack ass shanice sings HELLA muthafucken FLAT! !!! K BYE (:

  • MARIAH definitely WINS by FAR ! Aretha hits the same notes , but sounds fuckin whiney and shreiking ..shut the fuck up fat bitch

  • @trybeeMUSIC stfu aretha's belts sound like shrieks now but in her prime, she belted G5s and G#5s like nobody's business and they sounded beautiful!

  • What font do you use to make the G5s and G#5s?

  • what's the aretha song at 1:22?

  • @mariahforever1990 That is from Aretha's version of "People Get Ready" from her album Lady Soul!

  • @TheQueenAretha thanks!

  • Baaahahahaha!!!! Shaniceslaysurfav. Really? Bahahaha

  • shanice slays both of them btw

  • @shaniceslaysurfav LMAO, that karaoke strainer is nobody. Stay pressed.

  • @Stefano94x isn't that pressed bitch also xtinadisciple? the way it talks is so obvious if you check its other comments

  • @kelvinpyaeko I don't think that bitch know Shanice. But Shanice's stans are incredibly pressed.

  • @Stefano94x may be..i thought kumtakemeon is pressed already..but this bitch is worse lmao

  • @kelvinpyaeko LOL Kumtekmeon is an idiot. He knows #NOTHING over vocal issues, drooling over a karaoke strainer whose career is nowhere to be found, poor child.

  • let's see. a studio-engineered PHONY(mariah) vs a real singer who can actually hit the notes live(aretha). tough call indeed....

  • @shaniceslaysurfav sweetie you really need help. shanice is the one who uses studio devices to put her (FLAT) whistles in the right pitch

  • @misses18yearold BITCH SHANICE NEVER GOES FLAT YOU TAKE THAT BACK YOU CUNT!

  • @shaniceslaysurfav bitch shanice's whistles go flat all the time! o holy night, halo, if i were a boy....please don't make me go on...i can barely think of more than 2 or 3 of her live whistles that didn't go flat.

  • @misses18yearold HOW DARE YOU DISS SHANICE?? she is a musical genius! she has far more musicianship than aretha and mariah combined and you have no right to be talking bad about her especially being a mariah stan

  • @shaniceslaysurfav honey you need to crawl out from under your rock because shanice has no musicianship. mariah and aretha are superior to her in every way and if you consider shanice to be better than either of them...good for you...

  • @misses18yearold you're embarrassing yourself. everybody knows shanice is a superior vocalist to mariah. stop talking shit about shanice and face reality!

  • @shaniceslaysurfav bitch you're on my turf now and i'll talk shit about whoever the hell i want. if you don't like it, gtfo and go cry to your fellow shanice stans on SHANICE'S videos. then again, i suppose it can get awfully lonely having convos with your other accounts.

  • @misses18yearold whatever i'm so over this. you mariah fans are so damaged

  • @shaniceslaysurfav if you're over it, THEN LEAVE!

  • @misses18yearold Please Hun Pay That Lonely, Delusional Fag No Mind. Shanice Is Simply A...Nobody And Will Always Come Last To Her Queen Mariah.

  • @QueenMariahCarey lol thanks but you didn't have to use the F word...

  • @misses18yearold I Guess So Dahaling. It's Just A Word Like Any Other. However, If That Word Offended You, Then My Apologize. P.S Im Gay So The Word Doesn't Bother Me Much :-)

  • @QueenMariahCarey oh i didn't know you were gay. yeah i don't like that word but i don't get mad at gay guys when they use it cuz they don't mean any harm lol

  • @misses18yearold Lol Cute

  • @shaniceslaysurfav watch?v=hk27zGpn2ts 3:34 watch?v=zENW28LMXuY 3:22 and there are quite a few other examples i just gave you 2 because that's as much as your little mind can process ;) #dismissed

  • what's the mariah song at 4:58?

  • 5:17 best part of the video :)

  • @misses18yearold couldn't agree more! "IIIIII found my savin graaaace"

  • @misses18yearold agree, her clarity is ridiculous

  • tough call. i pick mariah. aretha hits the notes more easily but mariah's resonance is so magical! the queen of soul puts up a good fight though!

  • @misses18yearold I kinda agree with you but which one is more powerful?

  • @bohogirl10 aretha's more powerful but mariah has more resonance

  • Both incredible! Aretha just slams them like they're nothing it's ridiculous....then Mariah, her tone is sustained so beautifully...she loses NONE of her vocal quality as she ascends up her chest range!

  • Aretha has more consistency and power in the upper belting area, but I prefer Mariah's sound/tone. I call it a tie. They both excel in upper belts for different reasons.

  • Mariah has such ease with her upper belts,... yet not like Aretha, but I think comes down to technique, Aretha is a big and well perfect 'mixer' which takes nothing away from her skill and greatness as an upper belter, but Mariah doesnt nearly or consciously mix like Aretha, yet still has that resonance and tone that doesnt flicker/change when hitting the top 5th octave... which to me is why I prefer her, but im not nsaying she wins, because different tastes. different winner but yeah thats mine

  • @Aontiverozol I know right? Her A5 in Fly Like A Bird doesn't even sound high.

  • Aretha has much more ease up there. But Mariah has more resonance. I'm gonna go with Mariah. Her's sound much more pleasant to the ear. But Aretha's sound great as well. Great job on this!! :)

  • @stardusth2o haha agreeed :) & thankyou for owning that delusional Leona stan lmfao.

  • @MimiDahhling30 LMAO! Leona stans are too easy.

  • @stardusth2o Mariah does not have more resonance than Aretha up there....

  • Comment removed

  • @stardusth2o lmfao! Your allowed to have your opnion ;)

  • Hmmm..Aretha is more emotionally moving, and has more power in the upper register, in esp., when she gets happy, and hits her effortlessly, infamous G#5. She rules the upper register and G#5!

    Thanks, for the audio posting.

  • Aretha VS. Mariah they're tie. BOTH QUEENS OF G5

  • @pritykazy It always depends on what one wants more of. Raw strength, of course arethra, patti take the cake (pun not intended). If youre going for tonal quality and vocal acrobatics mariah takes the cake. :) I prefer Mariahs belts btw

  • Mariah´s voice has a unique quality her high notes, even her A5 (not shown on the video) sound good. Aretha on the other hand mixes her voice too much with head voice in order to be able to hit those notes, making it sound common; I mean her high notes sound a lot like Patti, Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Holliday, while Mariah sounds MAriah even in High Mixed voice.

  • Wow I didn't know Mariah had so many G5's/G#5's to be honest...but I just love the tone of Mariah's. I do believe they definitely aren't as effortless as Aretha's but Aretha's sound less appealing to my ear.

I absolutely love the G5's in "Outside" from the Butterfly album! Those are probably my favorite.

  • Aretha slays :)

  • 1091 views with 14 pages of comments? LoL

  • anyone can sound resonant on studio recordings, live Aretha covers Mariah's voice.

  • @MsArethaforever but that's not true to the whole extent that ANY one can sound resonant in studio..lol unless you put some technology gimmicks on shitty singers like miley or rihanna, they won't sound so. and you are kind of implying mc sounds resonant as if only in studio

  • @kelvinpyaeko yes anyone can, Mariah's voice is resonant live as well, but not as much as Aretha's

  • @MsArethaforever of course, aretha's has more resonance and belts more effortlessly, tbh. and their placement for belting are different, but it's still not true to an whole extent that any one sound so. lol

  • @MsArethaforever with sound effects they can. ex:Katy Perry

  • @MsArethaforever mariah has hit G5s and G#5s live with resonance quite a few times. don't hate

  • @Aontiverozol what are you talking about... where have i ever mentioned her ''not hitting a note''

  • i dont think MC has such a lot of G5s and G#5s like that :)

  • WOW!

    THIS VIDEO WAS AMAZING!

Aretha's G5's are so damn effortless! It's just incredible. Her voice was made for belting and sustaining those high notes so well!

When it comes to Mariah's voice, in my own opinion, the sound is kinda brighter and has more resonance, but it doesn't sound effortless.

Anyways, both are amazing. Two living legends.

Great video, keep the good work ;)

  • @Undefeated92

    What About Janet? :)

  • @Undefeated92 thanks carlos :D!

  • What version of 'Anytime You Need A Friend' is that? 1:38-1:48

  • @eviLFanTaSY1991 acapella version

  • mariah! >.<

  • Sounds like two average singers to me.

    Where's Leona Lewis?

  • @vagugagoogoo Um mariah and aretha slay that "average" singer you just named :)

  • @musicguy713 Bwahahahhahaha!

Leona Lewis is the best singer of all time!

Way better than the fat foghorn and the drunken whore - ahaha!

  • @vagugagoogoo When leona can do a G5 without sounding strained, shrieking or squealish and with resonance, then maybe she will be up for that title. Until then she will be forever owned by the queen of soul and songbird supreme hehe

  • @musicguy713 PLEASE!

Leona can hit any note better than those fat whores!

  • @vagugagoogoo PLEASE those women slay that commercial product even out of their primes!

  • @musicguy713 Keep dreaming. Where are they now? Exactly!

    LEONA WINS!

  • @vagugagoogoo their legends, respected legends, where is leona? licking her wounds after having a flopped album and living off of her one little tiny hit.

  • @vagugagoogoo LOL! Leona doesn't hold a candle to these legends. Leona is mini Mariah. So how could she better than Mariah if she is a lesser copy? Thank you, now sit your fruity ass down bitch.

  • @stardusth2o Shut the fuck up you fool!

    With your nonsense!

LEONA LEWIS WILL MURDER WHORIAH SCAREY ANYDAY!

How can she be a lesser copy if she's miles better than that fat whore? Thank you, now die bitch!

  • @vagugagoogoo still trying......SMH!!!!

  • @vagugagoogoo LMAO, the delusion.

  • @Stefano94x No delusion, just basic truth. Deal with it!

  • @vagugagoogoo Do you know anything about technique? Aretha wipes the floor with Leona and her thin flat ass vocals, and so does Mariah.

  • @vagugagoogoo haha - joka

  • for belting , I think aretha wins, because she can span up to Bb4 and B5 pure chest voice

  • mariah is very good.. we all know that.. but sorry ARETHA SLAYS.. More powerful.. she can easily ACCESS her upper belting register.. mariah is never known for her upperbelts.. ARETHA DOES.. and probably her upperbelts is the best

  • @pritykazy mariah has always been known for her upper belts lol... not AS HIGH in chest as Aretha of course, but she is a class A E5-G#5 vocalist.. one of the only poeple she falls short to is Aretha

  • @Dam112 nope dear.. mariah is known for having 5 octave range.. but her e5 to g#5 is OK, ok compare to ARETHA.. but great compare to others.. how many times mariah hitted g5 and g#5? in her 20 years career? for about 30 times only.. but aretha hitted those notes for like 700times lol.. she was known for having whistle registry..great runs and riffs and melismas.. but never with uperbelts..well still great.. but not as great as REE,

  • @pritykazy yes 'dear'.. 5 octave range.. her high belts and whistle register, and tbh that is just by people that dont really know much about music because within the industry she is known for ALOT more.. she has MANY G5's & G#5, but as i said - Aretha is a higher upper belter, a G5+..

  • @Dam112 lmfao, mariah is very good singer as ive said.. im a fan of her.. but she was NEVER FAMOUS WITH HER UPPERBELTS, her upperbelts was nicely placed vocally.. but she;s no GOOD aretha.. WHO DIRECTLY HIT her upperbelts.. in an INSTANT.. aretha had easy access in her upperbelts.. mariah took so long and always hitting lower notes to be able to hit her upper belt.. celarly maiah was never knowned to had great upperbelt like RETHA, just delude your self moron now next

  • @pritykazy i am nto taking anything away form Aretha she is the queen of upper belts - i am in no way delusional do not act like such an ignorant twat.. Mariah has more ease in her upper register than most female singers.. mariah DIRECTLY hits her upper belts and with ease (not so much now'a'day yes, but over all).

I dont know where you get she ''takes so long to hit those notes...

either way, i have no time for rude cunts when a general conversation was being had - peace

  • @pritykazy Mariah is known for her upper regist. Aretha would never be able to sing songs such as Anytime you need a friend, or make it happen because she is a Dramatic Soprano which means that although her voice can reach high notes ( being to mixed and repetitive for my taste) it dones´t have the agility Mariah´s voice has, and so Mariah is able to hit high notes repeatedly where Aretha would find it hard. Plus Mariah´s high notes are from rare quality, one of a kind, Aretha has a typical voic

  • @pedy19 keep deluding yourself that mariah was known for her upper register.. im not saying that her upper belts are not good coz it was great.. but sorry cant change the fact that ARETHA is the queen.. of the upperbelts.. and yeah aretha cant sing mimi songs, so is mimi.. she can't sing aretha;s song she messed up wit aretha's don't play that song, and remember divas live 1996.,. aretha KILLED MARIAH in chain of fools.. lol.. typical voice? haha.. call me when an typical singer belts D6, LOL

  • @pritykazy First, Belting is a definition not entirely correct, since it is supposed to be chest voice as far as I realize...well neither Mariah´s nor Aretha´s high notes are in chest, but in mixed voice, ( Aretha starts mixing in lower notes than Mimi, since her chest voice is heavier). Then D6 would never be a belt, it´s head voice, and Aretha´s D6 is not strong and actually doesn´t sound good. I love Aretha voice but in medium range. Plus Chain of fools MAriah was singing higher, even though

  • @pedy19 Belting is certainly the correct definition, and it is not exclusive to chest voice.

And Ree belted that D6. It wasn't pure head voice at all.

  • @Chimier I don´t agree with that expression and it is used when the mixed voice resembles more to chest, than to head. Well that´s subjective, not even opera singers use pure head because although it´s high it lacks strength therefore it is only used by contemporary singers ( Mariah excelled the technique).

  • @pedy19 Opera singers mostly use chest, mixed and head. And when proper technique is learned, the registers of the voice gain a "squillo" that allows them to be heard over orchestras and sing without a mic.

  • @Chimier wait a sec...it´s not that simple. You must spend years of practice in classical so you can actually have this ability...plus not everyone would be able to do it...let´s not get overwhelmed please

  • @pedy19 Where did I say it was simple? Nowhere.

  • @Chimier you made it sound so... anyway classic techniques would bring some handicaps to their style since, their voice would lose (in part ) some speed. I mean classic singers might have this huge projection but they sacrifice some things in order to attain it.

  • @pedy19 No, that's not true at all. Proper classical technique keeps the voice limber, regardless of the vocal weight.

  • @Chimier Limber in their own parameters, just listen to Pavarotti singing Hero, he was a Lyric tenor, therefore his voice was one of the most agile voices in tenors (only a Liggero being more) still you can tell. Please this argument is useless, you´re trying to prove something you don´t really know nothing about.

  • @pedy19 Well, duh. A darker voice won't be as agile as a lighter one.

Pavarotti was singing a POP song. The vocal requirements for a POP song and a classical song are very different.

Yep, I know nothing about it. You got me there. *sigh*

    Bye.

  • @Chimier Pavarotti´s voice isn´t dark... not at all. Yes ok, I don´t know that much, it´s just I´ve got some opera singers as close friends, so If you want to learn what I know I´ll gladly teach you (it´s not that much as I´ve said)

  • @pedy19 I wasn't talking about Pavarotti's voice when I said a darker voice won't be as agile as a lighter one. I was making a statement regarding what you said about agility in perimeters.

No thanks. I don't need your knowledge.

  • @pedy19 No. The technique itself requires them to do so. They must lift the palate, "create" a space in their mouth, (sounding like "sapo cocas" it´s not nice). You might want to check out classical trained Tenors singing pop using their technique and you´ll realize, they would find it hard to sing, songs as "yeah" from usher since the song rhythm is quite fast. Being an opera singer doesn´t mean you´ll be able to sing every kind of genre.

  • @pedy19

"Yeah" by Usher is a piece of shit, what respectable classically trained voice would want to sing it? and even more, who would want to sing like Usher with his whiny high larynx? eww.
