  • 12-10-2011. Isn't it fine, isn't it fine? "Laurie Partridge" is 59, Happy Birthday, Susan. Has it really been 40 years (September 25, 1970)? Who would have guessed how big this show would get? I was a big fan of TPF. And still am, today.

  • what i dont understand is why pay for 5 people to sing ine show that seems to be all about shirley and david? its like "Screw the kids they cant sing in my show"

  • It's not David voice on this one but it's still really fun. You can really hear how they started off trying to sound like the real-life singing family, "The Cowsills" who did a pilot but ABC didn't think it'd be a hit. I love The Cowsills harmonies though. They were as good as The Beach Boys, Mama's & Papa's, etc.

  • Some of Laurie's facial expressions when she's singing are not very attractive...just an observation.

  • Their first song was their BEST song!!

  • @TypesALot This was a throw away song by a 60s group called The Love Generation. I agree with you. It should have been released as a single. This pilot was filmed in fall 1969. Susan Dey was only 17 years old!

  • Tracy plas a mean tamborine!

  • This is better than any song of 2011!

  • @trevor40 Boy, you said a mouthful there and I am 50. Couldn't agree w/ you more.Take care.

  • David says "groovy." I love that part.

  • only david and shirley actually sang in any of the songs.

  • As Shirley Jones once said, Susan Dey was probably one of the most stunningly beautiful young women ever...and I agree!

  • David Cassidy has such a distinctive voice, that now it seems so weird to watch him lip-synching to someone else's vocals. Obviously at the time no one watching realized it. I'm glad they ended up using his voice.

  • Written by two gifted people-Carole Bayer (Sager) and Neil Sadaka. How intellectual is that?

  • This is NOT David's voice at all!

  • Shirley is dressed like a 70's soccer mom! how cute is that?

  • LOVE how you incorporate the applause during the segue into the 'live performance' part! Brilliant!

  • This is a great song--whoever sang it :-)

  • Wow...they are sooooo Grooovey!

  • This is from the pilot episode in fall 1969

  • I never knew the partridge family did this song too. in addition to the love generation-- the hung jury AND the wellington arrangement both recorded it; who knows who else did it. Thanks for the post

  • I remember my brother and I watching "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" starring Richard Basehart. My brother got the complete sub and play set for christmas one year, cool stuff. My alltime favorites were "Lost in Space" and "The Invaders"

  • Does anyone out there remember the TV show "Please Don't Eat the Daisies"? or "The Nanny and the Professor"?

  • Yes and the ghost and mrs Murr lol. I was born in 59 kimba the white lion hobo kelly and so many more memories.

  • The Cowsills were actually the group who did the singing along with Shirley and David.

  • no..the cowsills were the inspiration for the show..backgrounds for the music was done by session singers,NOT the Cowsills

  • I never knew that! I knew that the Partridge Family was based on the Cowsills but never knew (or recognized) them until now. Thx!

  • Shirley and David didnt sing on this track or "having a ball"

  • @meora1 Studio singers, listed on all the albums, sang with DC and SJ. Great stuff!

  • David had a great voice...I never got why they didnt use his voice at first. And Shirley is featured, instead of David. Weird. But it didnt take them long to figure out that David should really sing himself, AND be the front man. Shirley totally got it and accepted it when it happened, and he became the bigger star. she's a class act.

  • If I recall correctly from my teen years and reading the teen mags, David was hired for his acting ability and it wasn't really known just how well he could sing until after he was signed to play Keith.

  • correct. Shirley Jones they did know could sing as she won an oscar for Oklahoma

  • @cathysloper

David Cassidy didn't sing on the first few songs because they were recorded before the parts were cast. As for Shirley being featured in this video, it was the plot of the pilot. Their original singer blew them off, and they needed to find a replacement. Somehow, the kids figured out that Shirley could sing, so they kept bugging her until she agreed to do this demo. She didn't want to be part of the group at first, because she was just a regular mom.

  • I dont care who sang or didnt sing. This is still a GREAT!!! song

  • @trevor40

    I agree with you!

  • Actually, the singing vocals for this song were recorded by Flo & Eddie from 'The Turtles'. The song itself was written by Neil Sedaka

  • @BlueLion900 love generation

  • get over it its from pilot episodes and they got a different chris it was the 70S what do you expect

  • The pilot was filmed in fall 1969

  • @cowpigs99 This "different Chris", as you call him, was used in the first season only. He was replaced in seasons 2 through 4.

  • @mratfauver Jeremy Gelbwaks apparently was fond of biting his fellow cast members and urinating on himself...

  • @shmuli9 What ? Where did you hear that from ?

  • @BadRonald1 I read it in a biography about the Partridge Family...

  • I have just watched this again and I think I am now going to jump under a bus !! ...NO NOT the Partridge Family bus ....Chris is the only one handed drummer in the world by the way and he seems transfixed (or maybe he's on drugs) ...Danny plays bass as he looks over his SHOULDER !! BACKWARDS !! Is he strummin' that bass again !! naughty boy ! and Grace Van Owen is playing blind while she is transfixed by DC's sickly smile (what wicked plan is he thinking ? (read his book 30 years on !!)

  • i wanna undo shirley's buckles. I'm sorry, but I do!

  • My friend told me that the only reason why David Cassidy did the Partridge Family was to get his name known. He wanted to be a rock star.

  • As wonderful as this song is, based on something I discovered, I would dare guess that this wasn't even originally intended for the PF show: A couple years ago I picked up a "promo-only" copy of this 45 on Colgems and the song "Let the good Times In" was credited to a studio group named HUNG JURY....based on the record number it would've been recorded in the mid 60's....Therefore I summize that this song was in stock at Colgems and made avail for a seemingly appropriate use- on the PF show.

  • It was previously recorded by a group called "The Love Generation," headed by session singers the Bahler Brothers. The Bahlers were later the early voices, and, later, the background singers, for The Partridge Family, and re-recorded this song for the pilot, before anyone involved knew that David Cassidy could sing. I guess that it's possible that the "Hung Jury" single of which you speak could very well have been The Love Generation's version, which can be heard on their CD compilation.

  • "Let The Good Times In" was a song that had been floating around for a good while. The song was originally submitted for The Monkees to possibly record but they didn't. The Love Generation version was recorded and released in 1969 on Imperial Records. It didn't chart and wasn't heard from again until The Partridge Family pilot episode. The version used on the show is slightly different in that in place of the trumpets on the original version they overdubbed Shirley Jones singing the horn parts.

  • David Cassidy is as cute as Christmas

  • I can watch this video over and over i loved the song and the show. I was so young when it came on 7 yrs., old but this always brings back such happy memmories. My mother took me too see david in 1972 when he came too town for a concert i was so excited i'll never forget it! As an adult he came here to 2 summer theaters in 2001&2002 and i went with two close childhood friends that still love david like i do. We enjoyed the concerts so much we felt like kids again and David still does that to us

  • This is from the pilot episode taped in Fall, 1969 and basically follows the same script as David Cassidy and Susan Dey's screen test earlier that year. This episode aired one year later in September 1970.

  • I will have to find it when I go to the mall Thursday....

  • Can anyone help me find the CD that has this and Having a ball? I want this... I used to barrow it from the library and now I can't find it... I like this even though David wasn't really singing.. :-(

  • Came out in 2005 by BMG Canada music

  • Is called Come on get Happy The very Best of the Partridge Family

  • That isn't david's voice singing this one.

  • @bc191 The first couple episodes weren't him, because they didn't know David could sing.

  • @bc191 You are correct! The person singing lead on this song, as well as "Having A Ball", the other song heard in the debut episode of "The Partridge Family", is Ron Hicklin.

  • Test

  • You are very welcome. I was sorta a fan too, but I guess it wasnt cool to admit it at that time for me, as I was a teenager. But listening to the music now, I think they were totally unappreciated and misjudged. Sure, some, like this one is pure bubble gum fluff but the majority of them really stand the test of time. Solid material. Whever I get stuck in traffic, I pop in Cd and sing along. I know some of my fellow travelers think im having a stroke or something, but I am grown now.

  • rridley100 i have trouble with my acct, have been trying too post comments all day not working.hope it will be solved soon my comments are not posting.

  • Sorry for posting trying to test

  • loved this song it should have been on an album but never was.david casidy will always be the best 70's pop icon in his time.

  • Actually, its on the Partridge Family "Come On Get Happy" album. It has this one and about 4 other not released songs, like Together (Having a Ball). Ebay and Amazon has it cheap.

  • Great Song, BUT NOT DAVID CASSIDY ON VOCALS, FOLKS! Most of their hits featured David, BUT the Partridge family also used studio vocalists, even on the lead vocals on rare occasion. This is one of those instances.

  • troche oszukane...to nie David spiewa, ale spoko.....

  • fantastic--thank you for posting this

  • David's sooo hot!!!!!!!

  • Watched this show when it was on originally. Used to tape their songs off the tube with my portable cassettte player so I could listen to them whenever I wanted to. My kids and I love to watch these show on DVD. Beats having to watch Full House reruns.

  • Groovy...maybe but definately not David. One of the early ones.

  • Right on, David and all. Groovy!
