A propos depression and this song, there is no contradiction between savoring the soothing cadences of this beauteous melody and not wanting to remain in depression. The song is cathartic and releases a huge amount of existential angst in the listener in a way so controlled as to go unnoticed. Remember that in the "dark night" of the soul, it is darkest at the moment just preceding the break of light. We enjoy this song because at the deepest level we know there IS another world; there MUST be..
very good comment, I think this really is an iportant point to this song! even though the part about the other world is exactly where I can't follow.
wanting to leave this world for entering another cannot be rational as long as you have no real hint on how this other world looks like. but expecting that leaving this world means the end of all conscience and memory (of all mind at all) you can be rationally be judging this as "better".
@sergi733 i disagree with your last point I know Morrissey personally and Johnny your analogy of the music is correct but Morrissey is that lonely he really wants to go to sleep and not wake up where we live in Manchester this is so true im 50 now but his lyrics mean everything to me especially my connection to them an Eternal band for the people if only they would listen !!

Fuck perks of being a wallflower. It may be a good book and I love reading very much myself but fuck it. This is a fucking smiths song. Mozza for life.
I happen to love that book. See, I'm not replying to anyone, because I'm stating my opinion in a (hopefully) neutral manner, not forcefully blaring it in a confrontational way. But to be completely honest, I'm not a big fan of this song.
i fucking hate perks of being a wallflower - a braindead catcher in the rye for the mtv generation. a song this good doesn't deserve to be associated with it
WOW, a refreshing new kind of comment! I have never read the book myself, so I cannot judge it, but I am glad that finally there is some controversy here. Makes it more interesting.
@pinguismybitch I had it backwards. I didn't discover the Smiths from that book. I had listened to them far before reading that book. I actually read the book because I heard it mentioned "Asleep". I agree with you fully 100%
May I tell you what this song means to me... Louder Than Bombs was first released in 1987 when I was 16. "Sing to me" is, just what it is... wanting to leave this life as we know it, and moving on. Nealy every song is about the long, and want of unconditional nurturing, and acceptance. The fact that a book called "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" brings quotations, and references in from this song is Brilliant.
I found this song randomly while on youtube one day, I believe, one or two years ago and I saw that there was a lot of talk about a book called The Perks of Being a Wallflower. There was a lot of controversy regarding the book, like literally every comment and review I read was different. So I read the book, and it was pretty amazing.
And I owe it to this song that I was able to find and read such a good book.
@derfalschejunge same here. I needed to hear this song more often to get out of listening to so much black metal. All in all, maybe it wasnt the best book, but maybe that's because it sounded like a diatribe to my own highschool experience. Who knows?
Charlie, you're amazing. I hope one day I'll come home and find a letter in my mailbox with no return address, & Learn all about you and your life and how beautiful Sam is and how Patrick is an amazing person to be friends with, and how you listen to wonderful songs as Sam is in the back of her pickup truck, driving through a tunnel, and you all feel infinite. I love you, Charlie.
@derfalschejunge I notice you have not read the book. it's a very fitting song to the book. it's one of those "becoming of age" books so i suppose i can see why people don't like it or understand it. I'm sure you would enjoy it seeing how you enjoy this song as much as I do =] it's a quick read any ways
Is there a story behind this? I interpret it as the character has just dealt with some kind of a loss, and refuses to believe the person is gone. Lost in his depression, he eventually just disappears to try and follow whoever was lost. Is that about right? Or am I pretty far off.
I know it's kind of pointless to point it out, and don't get me wrong, it was a touching video, really, but you didn't take your glasses off before you got into bed, which I wouldn't have noticed if I didn't have glasses myself XD
thanks charlie where ever you are for showing me this song. it's so odd to hear this after reading all the stuff in "perks of being a wallflower." i haven't gotten through the whole book yet but so far i am having difficulties putting it down.

I like your video. I've always liked that song but it is kind of depressing. I love the look on your face when you were sitting and looking into the camera. Your little smile made me smile despite the sadness of the song.
Nice job capturing the posturing and analysis we perform on our lonesome. This is the first time I've heard the song since stumbling across it in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Heartbreaking.
I really liked this! You did a good job. You look like someone that would belong in a Kevin Smith film, like Clerks. I think it's the beard. Good stuff! haha.
You timed it perfectly and made it really go with the song.
This is an amazing song and the people who are saying rude things are jealous that they don't care enough about the song to make something people can connect to, like you.
"Just a little selfmade music-clip, nothing special." Are you kidding me???!!! I enjoyed this a lot. The scene where you're having breakfast by your bed, i've done that before very often when I lived alone. That and chain-smoked. I would sit alone in my living room after work & desperately waited for the weekend to get drunk with my friends. I felt pathetic but learned how to be alone without feeling sad and discovered inner peace within myself. This vid's visual is very realistic. Good job!
@82558061 Very cool! Thanks... your comment is much appreciated and it's not even a video i uploaded myself. Lol! Derfalschejunge is the one to really thank for. His video is awesome. Simple yet with a clear positive point that we are all human and can feel this way at times no matter how different we all are. Oh and the Smiths of course... beautiful song. Ha ha!
Me and my friend always used to request this song at the smiths disco, the guy told us he wouldn't play it and thought we were joking. I wasn't, I think it would have been quite beautiful.
thx, I think it's because of the song and maybe because of that book. people already have fixed imaginations and expectations.
however, I do not mind if people do not like the video. but only few tell me what they dislike about it. so their "nasty comments" are just worthless to me.
@quazibolo My friend gave me this book and a CD with all the songs mentioned in Perks of Being a Wallflower at the same time. I mean to say, I totally get that.

Ha ha!

I found this song in the book 'The Perks To Being A Wallflower' and I adore it. I'm not even finished with it yet, but it's wonderful so far. <3

Me and my friend always used to request this song at the smiths disco, the guy told us he wouldn't play it and thought we were joking. I wasn't, I think it would have been quite beautiful.

strange that you get so many nasty comments on your best video to date.
SuperZielke 1 year ago
@SuperZielke
thx, I think it's because of the song and maybe because of that book. people already have fixed imaginations and expectations.
however, I do not mind if people do not like the video. but only few tell me what they dislike about it. so their "nasty comments" are just worthless to me.

you look very cosy in your bed, was your boyfriend out that night?

@dronefin Yes and he left forever. Did he slip directly into yours or why do you notice the comfort of an unshared bed?
