'Juggler my foot. I was Bill Dead-Eye, the best sharp shooter in the world. You know I used to stand a man 150 yards away...'
'...I know and shoot an apple off his head.'
'Apple? Ha! All the other acts did that. I used used a grape.'
:D Marriot is a legend.
Why can't we have comedy like this today? How bad is today's entertainment that we have to look back 70 years for anything decent. I wish I was around at the time. Would have loved to have met some of these top class character actors.
I watched Oh Mr. Porter on TV years ago and was instantly hooked to the Hay, Marriot, Moffatt comedy trio. Very much copied on Only Fools and Horses, three generations of men getting into all kinds of scrapes together.
I followed Moore Marriot and Graham Moffatt onto the Arthur Askey films. For me it's only for them that I watch. Arthur Askey, the actual star, is a bonus for me.
Thanks for this. Finding English comedy in the US to watch is well nigh impossible, apart from SOME Ealings. It wasn't until I got onto the Internet that I could find a single clip of a Will Hay film, for example -- after reading about him for years in Halliwell's Film Guide, and other places. Thanks again.
