  • oh wow way to fuck the song up

  • Do or Die, The Gangs All Here, and Sing Loud, Sing Proud are some of their best work, hardly any of the songs on those albums are "Irish". Their Irish Americans from Boston that are all about family, if they do punk rock covers of classics, shut up and listen, if not, then go listen to ur Dubliners records and leave the barroom heroes alone.

  • so much criticism...if you guys don't like this version, don't watch it....easy as that....I for one love this version and DKM.

  • ABSOULTELY BUTCHERED A CLASSIC!!!!!! >:(

  • CdMac1990- this american says Fuck You.

RockyTop1012- if you think almost all their good songs are covers then you dont listen to them or your taste in good songs is shit. but yeah the songs they do cover come out great

  • almost all of their good songs are covers. get over it

  • Comment removed

  • @CdMac1990 interesting isn't it then, that DKM have so many fans not only in Eire, but worldwide as well...

  • population of Eire 1847= 8 million

population of Eire 1848= 4 million

Where the fuck did they all go???

  • @neonknees, do you mean now that the Irish have their own "Holocaust deniers" now? Damn!

  • @neonknees They all went to a concert of the Dropkick Murphys when they were counting.

  • @CdMac1990 I don't think that their aim is to seem Irish. And I can't see why someone can "ruin" a song, you can still listen to the Dubliners' recording if you want to. Think positive. Not about america.

  • That mandolin rocks!

  • this song just blows me away

  • Anyone who speaks a hard word on the Murphys get a punch right in the gob. This band fucking rules. And it speaks a lot that they've performed with Ronnie Drew and Shane MacGowan. They take good traditional music and modernise it a bit but they full understand what they're doing. death to all you nay sayers anyway I love 'em.

  • spooner2020...yep well named you need a spoon(better still a shovel ) for the shit you spout

  • are you f***ing stupid of course they rule...and the song is not writen by the dubliners...dropkick murphys have so many great songs...be serious

  • Let them go off and write their own songs. Murdering traditional Irish songs doesn't do anything for me.

    Murderers

  • um...they do make their own:

The Gangs all here, Heros from our past,

World Full of Hate, Tessie, Forever,

I'm Shipping up to Boston, Fairmount HIll,

    The Warriors Code etc...

  • @Ftballnumba69 Fairmount Hill is a cover of the song "spancil hill" and Shipping up to Boston was originally a poem. I do agree with you though, they make plenty of their own music and if you aren't a DKM fan then fuck off.

  • @Ftballnumba69 p.s.- Tessie isn't a DKM original either. It was an older song they took and remade with modern players/words.

  • @RockyTop1012 - actually, Tessie was a song from an old play that bears no resemblance to the DKM song, either musically or lyrically. The only thing they have in common is the title. It should not be considered a cover

  • Stop murdering the Dubliners..write yir own fucking songs. Sounds like jumped up, cocaine induced, MUCK.

    Keep coming back!

  • The Dubliners didn't wrote it either. It's a traditional Irish song.

  • Find me someone who sings it better than Luke......its his song.

  • lol dumbass

  • Dumbass??

    Póg mo thóin.

Did they sing a song about that phrase yet?

  • all they do is speed it up its not any difrent cept its modern. and its traditional Irish music the bubliners did not wright it so stfu

  • that's what dkm does! fucking rule!

  • screw you DKM, i can't take this song off my head for weeks =D

  • Brilliant version, great version. That's the way to craic it!

  • not as good as luke kelly but not bad

  • hahah i had to listen to this in english today! were studying folk songs!

    dropkick murphys<3

  • Man I love these guys! Boston, right?>\

  • fuck yeah man!

  • fuckin right

  • This works pretty damn well as a punk song- the Murphys make it feel really contemporary. But all the best songs are timeless, I guess.

  • I have to agree, this is pales in greatness to when Luke Kelly sang it. I do like the punk mandolin bit though

  • This doesn't touch the old irish versions.

    Watch the dubliners play this.

  • Now, I'm a big fan of the Dubliners, and I don't care much for this version myself, but there's really no need to watch videos of bands you don't like and leave negative comments, is there? Can't you just watch the one you do like and post good things about it? I mean, your opinion is your own and all that, but, you know, e'eryone has there own tastes. No need to be negative.

  • I didnt say it was bad.

I said I prefer the Dubliners version.

I try not to leave negative comments on pages.

However what is the point in a site full of positive comments. People have opinions to express and issues to discuss.

    It is healthy.

Now something I disagree with is those idiots who go onto pages and say this is shit or gay etc. These people can't even explain why they dislike something. Thats when these types of comments become pointless.

  • Hey, my bad.

  • al barr (their lead singer (the one who doesnt play the bass)) is scottish german. i was very disappointed when i heard that.

  • Punk on the mandolin, happy days!!!

When are these c*nts actually comin over to Ireland? I'd love to see them do somewhere over here

  • Im Irish

    They're Irish

    Im cool

    They're cool

    End of story

  • this song is class ! love ittttt

  • Bloody vile.

  • i love this song. fuckin sick

  • The first version I heard was by The Irish Rovers. Every band has a different version. I like this one and all the others'.

  • 15 seconds in, I threw up.

  • and i dont giv a fuk what any1 thins cos i will never return here ;-)

  • this song has been killed by that performance alone when the fuk was wolfs howling part of this song now u have wached this i plead with u to go watch luke kelly sing this so u can see how it is really supposed to sound

  • I have both on my IPod (Dropkick and Luke Kelly). The Dubliners have their way. Dropkick has their's. Love them both.

  • the irish are the best you fucking yankies

  • 1st time i listened 2 tha Dropkick Murphys wz on ma ipod!!!!!! 1 OF THA BEST BRITISH BANDS EVA!!!!!

  • British??

  • Aren't they british? They defo the best irish band tho

  • they're from Boston

  • they're definately NOT british... are you retarded?

  • i've only been listening them 4 about 3 months, but now i know thye're from boston sorry

  • The New York Yankees rule!!!!

  • happy paddys days

  • reppin Quincy bitches

  • Seems like a cheap Pogues ripoff. He just sings the song with a maniacal voice. Quite an innovation.

  • i never knew it was a contest to see how irish ye are, all the idiots who are quick to question how irish these lads are ask yourselves what the fuck you have done to promote music irish or any kind around the world. love from dublin

  • it's not about whether they are irish or not, it's about the fucking music.

    -LETS GO MURPHYS!!

  • hellz yah. but the irish in their songs is what make them so awzum

  • exactly. who cares if they're really Irish or not? they all most likely have strong Irish roots anyways. plus, look at all the white guys that've been famous for playing blues or blues-based music (Clapton, Beck, etc.), when the blues originated as the black man's music.

  • none of them are irish. theyr as irish as bin laden. lookin forward to seein them live though in belfast!

  • ya, just to clear all things up, black velvet band was written by the irish rovers

  • Hah!

  • false. they were the first to record it but it is a traditional irish song.

  • I have to see them again live..they are amazing..

  • hahaha dubliners wrote this song?? go fuck yourself!

it's a traditional Irish song and it's coverd many times by many different bands

  • And to all who think the Dubliners wrote the song, maybe you should know what you're talking about before you say it.

Black Velvet Band is a traditional Irish folk song describing transportation to Australia, a common punishment in 19th century Britain & Ireland. The song tells the story of a tradesman who meets a young woman who has stolen an item and passed it on to him. The man then appears in court the next day, charged with stealing the item and is sent to Van Diemen's Land for doing so.

  • TheOverated is right...

  • To everyone who has posted comments saying that DKM is crap; why are you watching they're videos? If you don't like them, fair enough. Go and listen to whatever you like, but let everyone else who likes them listen to them. Obviously if they've been around for this long, have toured all around the world and have produced many albums a lot of people like them, you guys don't speak for the whole world.

  • These guys are okay, but they'll never compare to The Pogues.

  • Pretty sure the Dubliners didn't write it, hoss.

  • What a load of rubbish! Performed by The Dubliners with the master Luke Kelly this is a brilliant song, but these morons absolutely ruin it!! Their "Irishness" has always seemed like a gimick.

  • i love these guys but this song will always belong the the The Dubliners who wrote it almost 30 years ago...

  • i get the feeling you don't know shit about the dropkicks or irish boston culture.

  • I'm Irish. But Seriously thats all i feel they are doing, they are a pretty average band at best in my opinion.

  • theyre not from ireland man. theyre not pretending to be from ireland. theyre irish-american, and they're obviously proud of it. theres nothing wrong with that.

  • well said boysheen. the boston boys are a credit to their homeland.

  • They're from Boston. How much more Irish can one get?

  • come from Ireland.

  • Hehe. Excellent.

  • I don't get why people can't just let others enjoy their music and have to crap on it. Why push Flogging Molly over the Dropkicks and visa versa? 2 GREAT bands that do the same kind of music but in VERY different ways. I love them BOTH and hate being made to feel like an ass because I like one or the other. We should just listen to the groups we like and let others enjoy the bands they like. It's all irish music, just different renditions, not BAD renditions, just DIFFERENT.

  • I don't get how these guys are famous, they sound terrible. you want good Irish-American noise listen to Flogging Molly

  • Both bands are good in their own right. However, comparing them is like comparing apples and oranges.

  • stumbled accross this by accident....SUPERB..sort of trad irish meets punk...really enjoyed ty

  • I used to have the orginal version by The

    Irish Rovers

  • ruined

  • yeah, they should prob. leave it to a real band

  • Think they changed it to Belfast at the Birmingham gig too. Awesome song live.

  • What a load of shite, how dare they ruin such a great song, wankers.

    R.I.P Luke Kelly

  • i agree

  • I'm Dutch, And they are the best, Hail the irish ^_^

  • im irish and i luv dis song its so fun to dance to at the fla!!!!

  • i no me to. even though i live in america. this band is the best

  • I think this song is Tasmania's most famous folk song

  • forget reglion the songs are the only thing that matters

  • Her nipples they sparkled like diamonds,

She was tattooed from knuckle to knee,

The dandruff fell onto her shoulders,

and she followed the Larne F.C.

  • Interesting that Ken sings "Belfast," the traditional lyric rather than the Massachusetts-centric "Brockton" that shows up on the album version.

  • Wild guess is that this concert actually took place in Belfast...

  • The original song which dkm covered lyrics are "belfast" id imagine thats why...

  • I know. But the version they recorded and officially released on Blackout was modified to Brockton.

  • Reppin' Beantown Irish

  • I love this GodDamn band

  • Irish Pride!!!!!!!!

  • ahhh im gonna be hearing this in the fuckin day

    cant wait!

  • i thought they were better at warped tour- 04 i think...
