I still can't work out the point of the worlds fair back then. Was it for people who didn't get out much like comicon or was it simply an exhibition that the Internet eventually replaced?
@venuecam The internet didn't replace the world fairs...been by Google today? We still have World Fairs but only two have been in America last year's was in Shanghai. It's basically a really big Epcot where nations show off their culture and new technologies. Kinda like Epcot meets the Stark Expo.
@venuecam Back Then ? We are in total isolation in the USA from the rest of the world. The WORLD FAIRS were World Expositions - and now they are called Expos --- and it is about a world experience --- together in one place --- and they are HUGE right NOW all over the earth. The World Expo in Milan Italy is going to be amazing - you should attend. Bob Dylan did all the event announcement recordings at the 2008 World Expo in Spain. The Expos in Shanghai huge
The sunsphere would have been better if Knox county would have listened to the contractors that built and laid out the Fair site My grandpa helped laying out the site he has a drawing of the sunsphere and what is suppose to look like 2x taller and the base is suppose to be Concrete and have shops in the bottom.O well Knoxville only pocketed 20$ after the worlds fair lol
I didn't get to go, but I remember drawing pictures of the Sunsphere and my entire kindergarten class ended up decorating the room with their pics of a big circle on a stick. Hard to believe its been 25 years now. Still wish I coulda gone. I did get to go up in the Sunsphere last Summer. Only took me 25 years!
Say, wasn't that the World's Fair Bart Simpson and his friends were trying to get to? When they got there, the sign said "WO--D- F-IR" and the Sunsphere was filled with packages of wigs.

I remember how cool it was: Pac Man, Cherry Coke, robotics, Regan, and China seemed so exotic then. hehe
