I saw the Small Faces on the Who,s Magic Bus Tour, including Joe Cocker and The Crazy World of Arthur Brown all for a £1....if only I could do it again.....its still ingrained in my memory
It reminds me a little bit of "off the Hook" by the Stones. I like to invite you to my animated BLUESCARTOON tribute to BO DIDDLEY (did the animation &played all instruments) who surely influenced the Stones (they covered his songs) but I am not so sure about that influence on the Small Faces (but I know they were deep into R&B).
@2009framat I wouldn't cite the Rolling Stones as they borrowed alot off rnb, it would be correct, instead, to say this is an enthusiastic take on Solomon Burke's 'Everybody needs love'.
I think we both are correct and I already mentioned that the SMALL FACES were into R&B,black music, soul or whatever you like to call it. I said the STONES were influenced by BO DIDDLEY. I think the STONES influenced bands like the SFACES in terms of how to sell their music and to make attractive for a young european audience. When the STONES started with that kind of music a little bit earlier it was considered as a kind of "insider"-music in England.
Believe or ignore what you like :-) Steve Mariott said something like that on german radio in the early/mid 80's when he was playing live in (then)-West-Berlin and I heard it back then. I can't remember his exact words but something like they opened the doors to be a professional music with music they really love to play.
@2009framat Well, their money sucking soulless manager, Don Arden, had tthem under control before and still The Small Faces could never be mistaken for The Rolling Stones and after they finally abandoned Arden and signed over with Rolling Stones' manager, Oldham, still, their music remains distinct and apart from the Stones and for that matter, The Who, The Kinks, etc. Although, I cannot challenge what you say you heard. I'm still learning about this myself.
I never attended a live concert of neither one(Stones or Faces). And I have no reason to make up things.I know Mariott played solo in the 80's but with a re-united(?) version of the SFaces in Summer 1977 an open air festival in W-Berlin in front of 20.000 people.I think the SFaces were a little younger than the Stones -&THEY started young-so it is no surprise to me that the took them as kind of role model (like the Beatles took Elvis even when the were more influenced by Buddy Holly
@2009framat Same here, I was an infant at the start of the 70s and only now, through this web sharing site, am I getting a motherlode of information unimaginable before. What music are you into? Sometimes, Youtube members invite me and I check out what genre music they're into and I decline.
The Small Face were a popular group in the 60's in W-Germany&had at least one very big hit with Sha-lalalali.They played the before mentioned festival not as headliner-that was proably Manfred Mann's Earthband.I can't remember the other bands.A schoolmate had 2 old Decca SFaces LPs from his Uncle which we never listen to because we did not know the band.I remember the concert so well because2days before Elvis had died &the SFaces set was almost all Elvis song(read it in the papers)
@2009framat Yeah, back in 1977, even then that name Small Faces would have drawn a blank look on my 9 year old face, actually, I listened to some of Rod Stewarts music, probably the hits in the mid70s, and had no idea of who the band actually were, Imo, rock n roll music was already in it's decline with the likes of Rod Stewart but that's going off topic.
If you like to know what I am listening to then visit my channel and watch some playlists. But I even listen to much more different music than presented on my channel :-)
@2009framat I don't know what generation you are but noting the country you identified, do you know of the passing of Ari-up last October? Talented, outspoken and very beautiful person.
I only knew the Slits&have to admid I they did not impress me&I almost forgot how they sounded like.I liked the original jamaicaan reggae & rock steady much more
@2009framat Yeah, I know you mean, around 2005, wandering in Virgin Megastore in downtown San Francisco, I, being an open minded person that I am, was struck by a cd cover of theirs (never heard of them) and bought it, it was a picture of 4 of them with photo effects, yes they started out very raw, so I bought the John Peels session and was absolutely knocked out by them and then I bought their Cut album and I tell you the first track, I believe I kept repeating the first 15 seconds mesmerized
I remember that I heard them on radio on the John Peel show in the early 80's and then I saw a 3-minute clip on german-french tv in the 90's. The next thing I heard that she died. I did not even know that she was a german.
what a misunderstanding!. Someone gave you a thumb down because "stupenda" sounds similar to English word "stupid" I suppose. But listen people in Italian it means "brilliant"! This is a very positive comment.
I love this band and this song and all those who love the band on every one of the songs I have searched there is not an ounce of hate on the comments
There is some great instrumentation on this single. The organ is serving somewhat as a percussion instrument (keeping rhythm) - not that Kenny Jones was shirking on the job thumping his drums along!

It doesn't get much better than this...classic sounds from classic British mid to late sixties bands.
