These are a couple of piezo contact microphones attached to an Arduino board. I'm using them to trigger drum samples in PureData. I was originally going to make a drumkit out of wine boxes, attach these everywhere, and have a makeshift electronic drums, but I never got around to it.

piezo triggers themselves are incredibly cheap (less than a dollar) at electronics stores. You can buy professional "drum triggers" for much more.
