Somebody has to say it, but she ABSOLUTELY BUTCHERED this song. This is just my opinion but this is BY FAR THE WORST COVER OF ANY SONG I HAVE EVER HEARD! There is no flow, no rythm, no consistency to this at all. ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS!
@MuikuliWander sorry but i totally agree with Gallooch25 ..she can have an huge talent and be very beautiful but this song needs more happy feelings, u know, like on original:D
@MuikuliWander nah i dont she does;D but ok.. its ur opinion:) i do like her voice but this is so ''savourless''..but we have different type taste of music..im more the guy who likes the metal version of a random pop song and u the soft one i guess:)
@W4SG1J Your comment made me facepalm, because I can't see where you are getting "happy feelings" from the original song. It's certainly more up-tempo, but that's a different matter. And yes, I guess we indeed do have different types of music taste. I'm not big into covers in general tbh. but I feel like Tori has done some very excellent covers, because her interpretations are unique. I dislike covers, which are dull or could've been done by any similar band. And I do like metal.
@Gallooch25 I happen to agree that it's not a great cover. But that's ok. I'd rather see artists take risks and fail than to refuse to take them at all. She tried. It didn't work, at least for me. So be it.
I wouldn't say that its better than the original, but the musical interpretation is beautiful by any standard. I don't like when she goes off on tangents of nonsense speak in my opinion it is distracting and takes away from the beauty and the flow of the song. Is it true that the original is about a straight man that Michael Stipe was in love with....just something I read somewhere....any thoughts?
@HelloMrBook ya, but her cover of enjoy the scilence blows the orginal away in my opinion, so much more pure/soul piercing. Smells like teen spirit matched the original too, and gave a whole new viewpoint to it/exposed the beauty behind the lyrics. this one is not that good compaired to those two.
I really wanted to like this cover, and I know you're supposed to cover a song and 'make it your own version' but when only unintelligible words/phrases come out of your mouth- it's pointless to attempt the song... Does she slur EVERY word in EVERY song she sings? :-/ blah.
@MrXevier I KNOW!! :) I also had my "Tori-Amos-Period" in the 90's.....still think she is one of the best female artists ever but she can also be so annoying if your not in that period/mood.....
"Oozing" is the right word. Or maybe "radiating." Or maybe "exploding with" is a better verb phrase. Whatever words we use... girls got some serious skillllzzzzz. No doubt.
Tori always goes to her 'place' when she performs, whether it be live or a studio recording. She casts a different persona if not becomes a whole new character sometimes. That's why we (well, I) love her! <3 ;-}
This song helped me through alot of rough times and made me smile and still does today i will play this song during my memorial.......................................
She dared to cover this song and gave a whole new meaning to it...absolutely stunning, and truly one of the FEW artists who have that rare gift of transforming great songs into even better ones.
Sounds like she doesn't know the lyrics. :V
