I remember this show as a kid, i changed the channel whenever it was on, i hated it, Even seeing it now, i still wonder wtf was the draw, having found out now this was a KIDS show??!! Really?! This show never made me laugh once, even as a kid i thought the jokes and "effects" if u wanna call em that we horrible, i did not enjoy this show at all!!! Hence y i changed the channel, i found this show more scary then a fun show to watch.
the show lost it's appeal to me when all the music rights were lost and they changed the opening and closing themes to generic knock off music and the Wolfman segments were edited or taken out completely. I watched a view of the new releases and the new Wolfman re-dubs just aren't the same as Billy Van's. Luckily I have the original March of The Martians music so I can still enjoy the classic opening and closing music.
Also... check out a cool on line radio show FIZZ RADIO BOOGALOO, done in the good tradition of HHOF and old horror film icons; has cool music rarely heard on formatted regular radio.
It's here on YouTube; just search for: 'Fizz Radio Boogaloo'
Another lovely day begins with ghosts and ghouls with greenish skin So close your eyes and you will find that you've arrived in Frightenstien Perhaps the count will find a way to make his monster work today For if he solves this monstermania he can return to transylvania So welcome where the sun won't shine to the castle of Count Frightenstien. This was a favourite in my house. :)
OMG...Everyone thought I was nuts and this show never existed...I loved this show and even quoted the begining monalogue and the ending monalogue but none of my friends knew about this show. I'm glad I'm not crazy!
Vincent Price flew up to record all of his appearances over the course of a couple of days. They were then spliced into the show in the short clips you see and into the intro.
So loved this show when I was a kid.I feel so old now LOL.My favorite out of all of them is I have 2 favorites 1st is Grizelda my all time favorite witch. She's so funny and second is the Wolfman.Miss this show so much.
I have been racking my brain for years trying to remember the name of this show i am so glad i found it!!! It was on in the US when i was a kid in the late 70's early 80's!!!! I loved this show sooo much!!
@MsThumper72 I'm 43 now..I watched it here in Canada every Saturday morning..and it was also on weeknights:}! Whatever happend to great tv shows of our day? Now days we get tortured with south park and family guy!!! no wonder kids today get all messsed up eh?
I knew at the time that the show was called The HILARIOUS House of Frigtenstein, but I would just watch with wide eyes and an expressionless face, since all of the 60's and 70's pop culture references went over my head, and I didn't find anything scary about the witch, or The Librarian, or....well, any of it.
I never really thought about it until I started watching these episodes again recently. Between 1:08 and 1:18 all you see is lightning flashes, and listen to the music. Lots of 'dead air' so to speak. I have a feeling when they designed this intro, they were going to put credits, but for whatever reason, they decided to put them at the end only. Probably not a big deal for people, but when you've recorded it and you want to get to the actual episode, after the 5th time it feels too long.
The credits were just Billy Van, Billy Van, Billy Van, etc... The show had a ton of dead air b/c they were trying to pad out the hour with only 15 minutes of content.
is it just me or is the detached floating head of Vincent Price scaring the shit out of kids kinda odd for a "kids" show lol..not complaining though I loved this in my youth
This was such a good show. And brings back so much memories. It's been over 25 years since I watched this show. Another classic much like G.I. Joe and Transformers.
They should do a show like this again. But then again, nobody will be like Billy Van. He was the best. Portraying 10 characters to perfection. Just awesome stuff. He should've been on SNL or something.
I guess perhaps who could follow in his footsteps are people like Mike Myers, Will Farrel, Ben Stiller, etc.
This was my favourite TV Show as a child. Just re-runs by then, but it was great. I was always fond of the gorilla scenes, and when Brucie had an "Out Of Order" sign on him. Billy Van is great.
All of Vincent Price's segments were shot in one day. Then edited through the all the episodes. CHCH was also the place where The Red Green Show started, and thy were funding partners to the early SCTV years
any1 know the name of the guy who is talking in the opening? i remember him on scooby doo and the 13 ghosts and a few other parodys of horror but ive never really gotten to know his name his voice is wicked even when he tells those lil stories be 4 some sketches on this show
Usually a lot of programs I watched as a child I don't find funny now, but I still find a lot of this show amusing.. I wish they would bring these out on DVD.....
It is out on dvd. Critical mass produced the dvd. You should be able to order it. It is on t.v. But the music scenes were cut (w/ the wolf man).cost to much to pay royalties every episode .
Although he was one of the best actors of the 20th century, Vincent Price didn't take himself too seriously. That's the problem with actors today. Most of them believe their own press.
I agree debauchery. Vincent Price was a caring and humble man, nothing like most Hollywood high profile actors today. I miss him and his work. I'm glad I found this, it brought back great memories. And to think this opening, made by such a good guy, used to scare the hell out of me as a little kid!!
Vincent was a real good egg (get it) for participating in this low budget show at the time and was happy to do it. No accomplished actor nowadays, as he was, would even think of doing anything like that.
Gawd, this is another show that I totally forgot about from my childhood. It used to air on WNEW-TV in NY sometime during the Seventies. Pretty good show, too.
Thank modern technology for us today being able to see this stuff that not only has been long forgotten, but I believed that all the cool stuff like this had been vaulted never to be seen again. Im glad that those who have access to are finally releasing all the cool stuff after all these decades.
