As a result of FEMA siting on its ass for four days there was a brake down in communication and coordination between the coastguard and local and state agency's. And the refugees that did manege to get rescued from rooftops where dropped off to fend for themselves since FEMA was no where to be found with help for the now thousands of homeless refuges. You simply can not argue that FEMA did its damn job in a timely manner in the aftermath of Katrina!
As for the coast guard yes I will give you that, after the Governor asked for their help they did but it is widely known that the plains and equipment they had ready to use was vastly outdated. And again where was FEMA. The purpose of FEMA is to coordinate the response to a disaster which has occurred in the United States and which overwhelms the resources of local and state authorities. For four days they where no where to be seen.

The military estimates that al qaueda and the Taliban are 20-30% stronger now than in 2002, meaning they have taken advantage of Bush wasting resources in Iraq. al qaueda also operates in Iraq now. And the refugees that did manege to get rescued from rooftops where dropped off to fend for themselves since FEMA was no where to be found with help for the now thousands of homeless refuges. As for the coast guard yes I will give you that, after the Governor asked for their help they did but it is widely known that the plains and equipment they had ready to use was vastly outdated. And again where was FEMA. The purpose of FEMA is to coordinate the response to a disaster which has occurred in the United States and which overwhelms the resources of local and state authorities. And as such they are not considered part of a federal response effort for any domestic emergency but are in fact a State response effort . So yes a Democratic Governor gave them their marching orders during Katrina. There was no Federal response of any kind in New Orleans for four whole days after the fact.
