The Springballs cheated, definitely...however what in blue perfect hell were the All Blacks doing going out for dinner with their rival team the night before the world cup? That's just dumb.
Also, > implying Mandella and the ANC don't want to eventually (as in over the next 7 decades at least) kick the whites out entirely.
As others have said, this music is basically derived from Jupiter from "The Planet Suite" by Gustav Holst who was British. This is why Princess Diana had it included in the music for her wedding in the setting "I vow to thee my country" long before it became the rugby national anthem. The Planet Suite was written in the 1930's. This is a statement of fact.
So, love this...don't get me wrong...but this is the tune of 'I Vow To Thee, My Country'...a British patriotic song, so will always have that in my heart above this.
GREAT MOVIE EH. I AM SO HAPPY "NO MORE ARPTIED NO MORE "!!!!! SA IS A BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY. RUGBY UNITED THE COUNTRY LIKE IN MY COUNTRY IT IS HOCKEY THAT UNITES US WE FORGET OUR PROBLEMS GOOD LUCK TO SA IN QUALIFYING FOR THE WORLD CUP OF SOCCER IN BRAZIL
@vivwritten - Sounds as if you are a sore loser....we won the world cup fair and square...sorry for you! From a Springbok supporter! I'm a South African by the way!
This song is really incredible! Thank you so much for putting it on youtube with pictures of Invictus. The song just goes with this amazing movie about a man with a huge courage! Thanks again :)
this so is truly inspiring..just like the movie...excellent movie...morgan freeman and matt damon were phenomenal in it...one of the best movies ever made
But still, when Madiba stands next to Francois Piennar, you've got to think it is ridiculous that Madiba is taller (I was like *palm*face* in the cinema)
I strongly recommend the book on which the film is based (disclaimer: I don't receive any sales commission ;))
I think so, too! The theme is also used as a religious hymn as Thaxted. Check it out. At least the religious groups credit Holst. Did this score? That's why I've been checking.
The original version sung by PJ Powers at Ellis Park is still the best version, she is a true child of Africa...the whole process in 1995 was overwhelming, I have never been that emotional, before or since.
@alexthauecocode No it isn't. It is a song dedicated to the planet Jupiter. It has been adapted later for other uses, including Invictus. All are copied from the original by Holst.
jk1111111111 should it matter who wrote it, i'm english and think this song representsmore than it even means, we could all do a lot more to help africa and make this world as one get a grip and realise the english aren't all important in the world. we need to help one another

I love Shirley Bassey but I hear my language and the words are linked to one of the most impressive moments in Southern African history ... I choose this version :) ... This version has more meaning for an African. :D
i love this song, invictus(movie) and the poem. i love everything it represents
it touched me when i first heard, saw and read it. so amazing and inspiring.

this should be our national anthem. It was the proudest moment in South african history. It was so much more than a rugby match.
