  • i don't get the part about touching your shoulder blades. if i try to touch my shoulderblades, i have to go far back enough that my head touches the ground. is that really how far you need to go? or is it enough that your lower back is flat on the ground? thanks!

  • this shit hurts my tailbone

  • well why does my neck hurt when i do them?

  • @mjjcng8958 because youre straining your neck forward to pull your body up. a way to fix this is to tuck your chin into your chest. while it may not be the proper way to do a sit up, it'll stop your neck from hurting.

  • @bbsloveme ok but i have to do them righ

  • @mjjcng8958 ok. then try to keep your head straight with your back and use just your core. i know its a natural reaction to strain your head forward because your body will follow, but you cant use your neck to do your core workout. and by using just your core, youll limit the pain and maximize your results.

  • @bbsloveme thank you i did them this morning while lightly placing my hand on my neck. did not hurt at all

  • is this how it is in the AF, aswell?

    thnx

  • What's the time limit

  • @TheRunningisfun Two minutes to do as many as you can.

  • Doing**

  • I'm a 8th grade girl and I'm planning on doubt jrotc next year. Advice?

  • Army situps are fairly easy, but they start to kill your neck after awhile.

  • He is pushing too much on his head which could damage his spine, his chin should not touch his chest or go any where near.

  • Thanks I'm going into Navy ROTC in high school this helped.

  • These sit-ups suck. It uses back, neck, and thigh muscles, and barely any abdominal muscle at all. Far more harmful, and I'd say they have little use in developing any muscle strength in any part of the body. Crunches are far more effective, and you won't strain your neck or back.

  • @brostyn

it seems that sit-ups do more of the lower abdomen and crunches or higher up

i usually do 50 sit-ups, then 25 rigth to left and 25 left to right,

and then 50 crunches, then 25 right to left, 25 left to right.

i have seriously noticed a difference in the first week alone, i found a muscle on my side i never knew was there =D i just started REALLY trying to get into shape for ROTC, which i hope to receive my scholarship for.

  • I used to do it just the same as this , it strained my sacroiliac muscles since then i was taught crunches which show better results and don t kill my back, i have never looked backwards. Suppose its down to personal preference and goals.

  • I'm going to be in the ROTC program, and I will do my best. But it is a constructive criticism of mine to say that the APFT is outdated. For example, whenever I do the sit-ups, I feel the burn in my thighs before my abs (any Army soldiers and cadets agree with this?). I think the PFT for all branches are outdated, but we're still producing some of the best soldiers. So the military has its merits, but I think PFT should be modernized. Any thoughts? Comments?

  • @hwankyulee114 I'm doing ROTC too...soon. I agree. PFT IS outdated. I wish they'd switch to crunches, they build more core strength, on an exercise ball its even better. I hate pushups!! ugh. cuz i'm a female and I don't have as much muscle as these guys, they make it look too easy. lol. Good luck Cadet! Let me know how it goes!

  • @SaoirseBonnieLass I don't really understand how you hate push ups...Because it's one of those weight based exercises...Trust me, I used to hate them too...I was overweight with no real strength...Now I'm still overweight, but have more strength to do it without serious strain...I can't do 100, but I can do more than...5. I'll bet you could walk around with or curl weight a tad close, up to, or over your limit and then you would find it easier to do those push ups.

  • @SaoirseBonnieLass a girl in my batallion set the record for push-ups in two minutes. She did 120+ I don't remember the exact figure but she set the campus record counting varsity sports outside of ROTC. I'm not dissing on you or trying to make you feel stupid but it is possible for a female to totally dominate push ups.

  • This is contradicting other videos!

  • Crunches are more effective than situps. WITHOUT the risk of lower back injury.. Get with the times ARMY..lol

  • im interested in army. im not into the marines like i think they are cool n all but i mean from army to marines, army is like do what u gotta do marines are bonefied killers. but i hear the stop loss thing really screws you over. i guess if i ever join it ill be during peace time

  • Looks like it hurts the spine, that was the worst part of the sit up for me in boot. Right now i have back problems and the years of situps didnt help, they shouls replace them with crunches and leg lifts. Thats what i did.

  • im an 8th grader right now and i want to join the rotc so i wanna start to see how they do it in rotc and hopfuly ill do good

  • @dragon11741 when your in high school try JROTC its sortove like that

  • pit stains

  • Do they always hold your feet for you like that?

  • US Army- 17 yrs old to join, 11th Grade. Is the minimum age for joining the US Army

Source- Private in the US Army (Me)

  • but u have to have a highschool diploma

  • damn cant do 72 yet my max was 62 in 2 mins.....i have a pt test in my jrotc class in high school

  • I have 46 in one minute but it was with my arms crossed over my chest and my hands holding onto my shoulders.

  • In 2 minutes I got the same

  • from 17? i thought u could start training right after grade 10...so thats like...15 or 16? either way thats for the canadian army...what do you need points for anyway?

  • that is not the sit ups in phil mil.academy.

    you should do it alone!

  • der typ schafft doch keine 72.. er schnauft schon nach vier stück xD

  • if your hands break from the interlaced finger position, does that terminate you or does the repetition not count?

  • the rep doesn't count

  • yeah, they are bad for you, but at the end of the day thats how you have to do them in the army, marines etc

  • Uh, no dumbass, that's not how you do them in the Marines. First off, you do crunches in the Marines, not sit ups. Secondly, you hold your bicepts and keep your arms across your chest. Idiot wannabes.

  • No your right I am a wanabe as im going to be joining the Royal Marines next year and for crunches you cross your arms over your chest, but for sit-ups they say you have to do them in a certain way with your hands laced behind your head.

And from reading your profile you sound like some stupid assed idiot who cant stop swearing - if you were a marine or military then a drill sergeant would of yelled all that shit out of you

  • I heard that your Captain-General set the Cutty Sark ablaze with a cigar.

  • Man, that's so bad for your neck.

  • yeah I saw some other situp video for the army but the guys back was straight and not pushed so far forwards like his neck bent : s

  • the only thing you will get out of those situps is a neck brace

  • tell me about it

  • proper army situp, not a proper situp.

I would have thought the army wanted to reduce risk of injury by making them do it the proper way

  • @CetunH no that is a proper situp no matter how u look at it. your thinking or the Marine Corps crunches version.

  • @CetunH why would you ever think that?

  • 17-21. wtf we can vote go to war but u cant drink at age 18 thats some bullshit

  • thats the wrong way

  • never stop doing them!

  • yeah maybe 10 at a time.

  • no i make 30

  • why not stop ??

  • This is very bad for the back.

  • my bf was an army ranger, served twice in iraq, and now works in a form of law enforcement, and i really want to be as fit as him. i do a lot of situps, just not in a row...53? lol i can do 30. maybe 35 in prolly 45 seconds, but i just cant make it the rest of the 20. i suck

  • Army rangers are beasts one of my friends is a ranger he made me want to earn that tab, Rangers lead the way

  • Females have the same standard. Awesome! It's important to work the obliques during a crunch

  • then why would you say you were a private and your next stop is corporal. obviously you are not in rotc dumb fuck. if you were in rotc, you would be a Cadet, not a private, and your next stop would be 2nd LT. Nice try kid

  • Comment removed

  • UMMMM. ur only 16. you are not a private, you are not enlisted. do some research kid

  • im in jrotc at my high school cant you read look up jrotc and im am pfc dont argue with me i know what rank i am

  • hahahahahhaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah give up

  • yeh ok fat kid chill out u rnt even in the rotc

  • your not a private or frivate first class. You have not been to basic training. you are a Cadet Private First Class (in cadet rank). Dont worry youll get ur turn eventually but that will be a few years yet.

  • is corpral ahead of 2nd lutinet?

  • No. Corporal is enlisted. Lieutenant is an officer. In the Army, Army Reserves or National Guard, Private makes up the first two enlisted ranks ranks (E-1 & E-2). PFC (Private first class) is the third enlisted rank, followed by Corporal. A Second Lieutenant is the first officer's rank (officers outrank enlisted, at least on paper).

  • No, CPL is one rank above PFC, witch in turn is one rank above E-2 ( PV2) witch is one rank above people who have not completed boot-camp ( Basic)

2nd LT is a officer - 2nd LT is the lowest officer rank- but it still "in theory" is higher then the highest enlisted rank.

We all know Master Sergeants scare the holy mother out of any officer.

  • amen but I was wondering, by joining rotc, does that mean you will HAVE to go to war?

  • As far as I understand, it is when you accept a scholarship, or enter advanced ROTC classes or attend LTC in fort knox then you are commited.

  • no...

  • i have tried the push ups and i can barely do 30 reps what can i do?

  • Do more.

  • start small, try to do endurance at first. The best way would be to hang halfway off your bed, facing the ground, and holding your torso weight off the ground for as long as you can.

move up slowly to trying to do as many pushups as you can at one time.

another way to help would be of course to go to the gym and ask for upper body strength training, and making sur e your diest contains alot of protein while you are exercising to help build muscles.

  • keep doin it over and over every time u try raise 1 push up eventually u will reach were u want to

  • hippies need a haircut

  • Hahaha, they're going to be Officers man. I've seen a Full Bird rocking a mullet type hair style in a reserve unit.

  • at my school you're supposed to cross your arms above ur chest for the sit ups. Is this like different?

  • is it true that you have to lay back flat for it to count as a rep? any feedback or info is appreciated

  • demonstrate the 2 mile run for us

  • lol

  • Where did they find this broke ass soldier to represent the army?

  • Thanks for this video. I'm personally going into the Corps, but I have great respect for all armed forces :]

  • @RonnieJamesDio12345 oohrah. same here brother.

  • Thanks that really helped. All I have to do now is do 44 of those in 2 minutes

  • Is it 2 minutes for push ups too?

  • yep, 2 min for pushups and situps and 17:54 2 miles, for 26-31

  • 53 Sits-ups in how many time?

  • 2 minutes

  • sweety armpits

  • lol he was nervous to go on YouTube!! haha

  • rangers lead the way

  • sua sponte

  • go army rangers!

  • lead the way!!
