Just Compensation? This has now happened in Palm Beach as well. Thought...if this land in New London and Palm Beach is so desirable, should not the compensation have been enormous? Just because these folks did not have the money to develop their land as the cities would want, their land was still in the right place, a desirable space, making it worth millions. They were not in a spot where a by coincidence larger road would need pass, but holding prime real estate with high market value.

it has nothing to that one... but recently they decided bong water is a controlled substance. as for commercial eminent domain is and always will be a bad idea. as for using it to get roads. they do use it but generally when they were doing it it was developers who wanted it, so they had no issue selling it to the government to aid in there long term goals. or it was farmers who were fighting it, but generally because they wanted it down the seem not down the middle of there land.

Kelo v. New London redefines public use as public good. If the government can decide something is for the public good it can do anything it wants. The idea of public good is illogical, because there can be no public without individuals. In order to define something as good for each individual without consulting the individuals would be claiming to have some omniscient power no one possesses.

There are actually good arguments on both sides of the New London case. What the video fails to mention is the horrible economic condition New London was in. What the case really says is economic development is a permissible purpose for the use of the eminent domain power. I'm not sure the case was correctly decided, but it's not productive to simplify the case so much.

Now a few years later, nothing put torn down buildings. pfizer then moved away after tearing stuff down just as its tax benefits expired. Big guy picking on the little guy while saying I can use this land better then you. Where do you stand now or are you still not sure?

"Real Estate" is not property sir its a commercial asset. True property of which we no longer have was the basis for people coming to the US, real money too.

Landless peasants now have fiat and real estate in the Americas as we had in Olde.

If we had dollars instead of fiat and property instead of real estate we would not have these problems of open slavery.
