It must be even more difficult to be Sam, the sidekick.  He has to try harder than anyone else, knowing all the while that no one will ever remember what he did. The more he does, the closer he gets to Frodo and the more he is overshadowed by him. He doesn't do anything "by himself" because he makes Frodo's journey possible. He doesn't try to recklessly do it himself, but loyally sacrifices fame for the cause.

so freakin awesome. i love this. faved and 5*ed. Sam (tied with Faramir) was always my favorite. the other comments have a point- Frodo wouldve gotten precisely NOWHERE without dear Sam. perfect scene choices, especially the "look what love gave us" line... that bloody hurt. one of the reasons i dont much care for Frodo. yeah, thats a screwed up weight hes carrying, but he ought to have known by then that Sam would die than betray him.... but yeah, before i rant (too much), fantastic work!

@CassandraMotou this is why I don't like this scene...it is not in the book, because Frodo would never dismiss Sam ...never. Even when the power of the ring completely overwhelms Frodo, he never dismiss Sam. They are a great team. But Sam is the loyalty in person. :)

Sam really is the true hero in the movie. It's nothing special to do something scary if you're not afraid of it. But to go through with something even though you're scared, that's what makes a hero.
