Its actually easy to do...I play sousaphone to and all you have to do is relax the muscles in your tongue and support the sound with air=) Free tuba fanfares on my page...just message me if you need one or if you have a request
sounds a lot like legato double tongue or "doodle" tonguing....where it really is double tongued except the movement is all on the front of the tongue, so people think its single tongued because there isnt a "KA" or "GU"
say "DOODLE"....and the result is a much softer attack
It sounds like you are very knowledgable in the field of articulation. Could you please send me some information that I can share with my students to improve their technique. I did not major in brass in college. Actually, I was a percussion major.
well...im an "010 " and i still have one more year...but i will be there for explsosion day....will i be able to audition when i come down there. and do u have some more info for explosion day, and what time it is?
No not really then it wouldnt be fun watching them if every tuba section was like dis cus we would get bored wit it and be lik fuck it cus we wolud hav jus seen this other tuba section doing the same thing they are doing now
i know the 1st time i even HEARD bout VSU was at the 1st ? Honda...they made a name for themselves THEN. next time i saw em was at the LDC this past year and dem TUBAS!! keep doin what yall do...
VSU, I am the section leader of my Tubaline, I just wish I had the capabality to Double Toungue, seeing how I but off my toungue and had to have it sewn back on, so Its vertually impossible to double toungue, but my line is working on this song, and its sounding great, were still haveing trouble with some of those chords and that bad ass sixteenth run, but I think we can figure it out, One question tho, During the 16th note run, does every tuba play that? thanks ~Tubaz-4-Live~
to find out the notes, all you have to do is listen. it's all pretty easy to hear. that also tells you that they are clean enough to hear the notes. if they weren't clean like some other lines, then you wouldn't have a chance to hear the melodic line at all. so go plunk it out on a piano or on your horn. and you guys sound great up there at VSU
Basically the section learned it during band camp in preperation for the Labor Day Classic battle. Mainly the section practice and performs year round so they stay pretty much on top of their stuff.
Its sound so good. You are right. The articulation on this song is so simple, yet some of the best don't know how to do this. FEMALE TUBA SHAWTY FOR LIFE!!!!!
I know. Tubas (well actually in this case, they're sousaphones, but that's not the point) usually don't use the double tonguing techinique. They usually have slow parts where they only need to single tongue. Woodwinds usually have to, especially flutes and piccolos (I play piccolo).
naw man all brass, and plus its more difficult to do that level of tounging on a woodwind cuz it involves the tip of your tounge a slight adjustment of the embouchure and all that music major jazz that i don't feel like explaining, but to answer your query we all are strict brass instrumentalists
I mean 12...12 tubas producing very loud (not nasty) LOUD and crisp sound...yall need more clips...i'm gonna search for some battle clips of yall..PLEASE post some game or event battle clips so we all can see how these cats blow with some adrenaline behind them...yall tight as hell. That depends on which 16th note run you're talking about. There are two solo runs and one where everyone plays the run. What school do you go to?
sousafreak1 4 years ago
Im still in Highschool, I go to Bonham, Highschool In Texas, But the solos at 00:29 & 00:34 & 00:37, But this song is great, aint it?

sousafreak1 5 years ago
What types of exercises would you recomend to try and learn how to double tongue like that

How long did it take you to be able to double tongue like that?
