I can see why they compared his voice to Ruffo's. He sounds better here than on most of his other commercial recordings. Wish he sung it in French though. One of the greatest Italian baritone voices of all time.

If someone should make another version of Carmen in a different language, like this, it should be in SPANISH, NOT italian. Spanish is the autrhentic language of the story as you all know.
you guys make it seem like being italian makes you a better singer. well I think not blindly following your teachers makes you a better singer they are only trying to bring out the best singer in you, not make you into the best singer. thats what you become after you find out the meaning in all the languages, the poetry, the love
No way is this a tenor. That top F would never be as rich as that as a tenor. yes, the low B flat is a bit week but this aria is famous for being hard for both Baritone and bass baritone. Judging from the comments that he is a tenor I can see that people want too rich a sound to wack out those top notes. Explains the boring baritones we have too suffer today.Shagged out with wobbles!

@ashleybremner- I totally agree with you on that. I take voice lessons and I've had teachers steering me away from THIS natural sound, but I never could give into it. I now have a teacher wanting me to sound like this and he is the best teacher I've had.

To clarify, Bechi's recording is not a "version" of the French piano-vocal score; it is a singing translation. There are true language versions of operas (Verdi's "Don Carlo" was originally written in French, for Paris). As for translations, it was customary at one time, even in international houses, for singers to perform in their native tongues. Customs have changed; most international houses produce operas in the native languages of the works. Supertitles have made this easier on audiences.
Bechi is magnificent in the toreador song, and so are Pasquale Amato and Benvenuto Franci. My two favorite French versions are by Henri Albers and Robert Merrill.

It's neither French, nor Spanish. It's Italian - he's singing in his own language, and I'd wish more people would do that. Sure, play the original too, but also perform for your local audience...
Tita Ruffo alcanzaba el do 4 !
Enserio?
Escucha a Galeffi si hay on Youtube.
the subject of finding the lyrics of "el toreador is becoming a challenge"
I want to perform this song in london and have failed so far to find the lyrics.
We should reward the person who managed to find the lyrics of " il toreadore2 sang in Italian by Gino Bechi. The popular saying says, " He who dares, wins
I just saw your comment ( you made one year ago); Gino Bechi was without any doubt a great Artist however,in my opinion, the best baritono of the post Worl War era was Ettore Bastianini.
Bravo Maestro!
Amazing they're singing in italian instead of french (original idiom of this opera). Common at that time, to translate everything to italian. I prefer the original, but it doesn't compromise anything. WONDERFUL voice of Gino Bechi, became famous also for launching such famous song "La strada del Bosco".
Dear Aharpe Thank you for your reply however the Lyrics that appear in wlkipedia are the original French Version! I am Still interested in the Italian version! Thank you , anyway for your effort!
Couldn't find more than a few verses, but here they are (searched on some of the words i thought i heard here, brought up only one result, a German pdf :-< , but at least it provided these): Vivat le Torero [...] Andiam, in guardia Andiam, Andiam! E!! [...]

It's neither French, nor Spanish. It's Italian - he's singing in his own language, and I'd wish more people would do that. Sure, play the original too, but also perform for your local audience...

No me suena a barítono, es tenor.
Gerardeus 4 years ago
Tita Ruffo alcanzaba el do 4 !
PonselleLover 4 years ago
Enserio?
Gerardeus 4 years ago
Escucha a Galeffi si hay on Youtube.
PonselleLover 4 years ago
mmm yo alcanso hasta si4
los demas son tonos bajos de
sol2
pakitomatrix 4 years ago
pakitomatrix 4 years ago
Y evolucionan tambien : piensa a Bergonzi, Bastianini, Gwineth Jones, Astrid Varnay... Pero ti mismo, como te defines ?
PonselleLover 4 years ago
pakitomatrix 4 years ago
perdon bajo-baritono
pakitomatrix 4 years ago
PonselleLover 4 years ago
como gravarla artificialmente?
oie que significa "lol"??
pakitomatrix 4 years ago
PonselleLover 4 years ago
pakitomatrix 4 years ago

the subject of finding the lyrics of "el toreador is becoming a challenge"
I want to perform this song in london and have failed so far to find the lyrics.
We should reward the person who managed to find the lyrics of " il toreadore2 sang in Italian by Gino Bechi. The popular saying says, " He who dares, wins
Chi osa vince e vinceremo.

This might well be the best baritone of the post World War II era.

I just saw your comment ( you made one year ago); Gino Bechi was without any doubt a great Artist however,in my opinion, the best baritono of the post Worl War era was Ettore Bastianini.

Bravo Maestro!

If you have the opportunity to see this movie (it is available on Netflix), it is amusingly corny.

Amazing they're singing in italian instead of french (original idiom of this opera). Common at that time, to translate everything to italian. I prefer the original, but it doesn't compromise anything. WONDERFUL voice of Gino Bechi, became famous also for launching such famous song "La strada del Bosco".
