  • Sums up what we all loved about McRae. Bin it or win it he always made it worth watching

  • Just sat here reading an interview by Juha Kankkunen and i quote "Group B drivers were bloody fast. Then you had Auriol, Makinen, Biasion, McRae, Burns, Sainz. You had 10 World Champions everyone could win and fighting was tough. He admits McRae was a special case, Colin's risk tolerance was so much higher than everyone else, there were days when Nicky (Grist) told me from the 1st corner things wouldn't last that long" High praise indeed from one of the greatest.

  • at 4:00 Colin tries to grab another gear. I watched this a bunch of times and never noticed. He's already topped out but wanting more. :)

  • @ImoonPeople

    lol right !!!

  • when it comes into onboard looks like video game . such a skill

  • sad loss to life and rallying rip colin

  • That's so good to watch, most lads including myself think we can drive, but this is a whole different league,R.I.P Colin.

  • RIP, 4 years since we lost our rally king.

  • awesome skill!

  • This is not in the WRC because colin is not with the racing suit

  • @jscunetti They dont always wear racing suits esp if its a hot climate they are driving. Colin wore short sleeved shirts when he raced for Subaru in Australia etc..

  • THANKS COLIN AND NICKY FOR THIS AMAZING VIDEO WE NEVER BE FORGET.

  • forget tomtom sat nav get yourself a Nicky Grist \o/

  • umm why is he wearing a t-shirt R.I.P colin

  • man hes sick

  • if i was the navigator i would be puking everywhere haha. But seriously, Colin McRae had some great skill

  • im sure there is a vid of him being chased by the police during a rally because he only had 3 wheels and it was to dangerous for the crowd, enyway they couldnt keep up lol

  • What a legend, Poxy helicopters. I'll always wonder if is boy would have been in the WRC. Such a waste. RIP the McRae's, and not forgetting the two friends that were passengers, that lots there lives on the same day RIP :-(

  • Imagine McRae as a cab driver...

  • i can drive like this only in Dirt 3 ^^

  • @MrRextarer I'm guessing no you can't :)

  • look at the copilot when he starts the engine lol

  • the chuck norris of rally...

    maybe not because he died

  • @lolcat7360

Mcrae didn't die because of the helicopter, he died because the helicopter couldnt handle the prowess of mcrae

  • @Matsamari That's right! McRae didn't crash the helicopter, the helicopter crashed McRae!

  • impressive!

  • Colin BEST driver 4ever

  • its so sad that he didn't die by the thing he loved. fucking helicopters. R.I.P

  • Is that a sequential shift (AKA semi automatic)? It doesn't appear that he is using a clutch. I thought that rally cars had a clutch and H pattern shifter. Or is it just drivers preference?

  • @blowupuate13 Most non-standard rally cars have either a sequential gearbox or a H pattern dogbox. On the sequential gearbox you never use the clutch except at the start, and with a dogbox most people use the clutch when shifting upwards, thus making the gearbox last longer, but most people use clutchless shifting when shifting downwards, for the ability to have your left foot on the brake at all times. A sequential gearbox is a lot more expensive though.

  • RIP

  • RIP COLIN

  • Now that's some footage of driving grace under pressure. Without him being a cyborg , I'd say this was the closest Iv'e seen man melded with machine.

  • he makes it look so easy. amazing!

  • in rally of France???

  • 16 people are either blind or stupid

  • hjoajsojaoajo

    maquina el ql

  • 3 49

  • Could somebody please explain to me why they were allowed to wear t'shirts while during competition in the car?

  • @moossee32 well the rules weren't strict back then

  • When did he die? and how?

  • @TheSteamyPotato Chopper crash mate. Tried to do a loop-de-loop which is never a good idea in a chopper for obvious reasons.

  • man..... i miss watching him drive..... R.I.P Colin McRae

  • I'm getting sick while reading in a driving car ... poor navigator :D

  • I've always loved that whine the trans makes when WRC cars get up to speed. Does anyone know what causes that?

  • @moosemccray straight cut gears, as opposed to the helical gears used in street cars

  • It's insane how fast these cars can change directions.

  • What kills me is that the navigator is reading the directions like he is reading Green Eggs and Ham to a group of kids lol.

  • That navigator sounded so calm....

  • Colin Mcae on corsican roads, just amazing...

  • different level, the word legend is thrown around a lot, but in the dictionary under legend there is a picture of this bloke

  • so it IS true, that he numbered corners according to their smoothness/sharpness

  • i have the same dream

  • honestly i think rally drivers are the best

  • My dream is to be a rally driver, it's awesome !

  • Those 16 who dislike this need to get a life... Best rally driver of all times!!!

  • God needed a driver, he chose the best... CM#5

  • The cooperation between Colin and Nicky was extraordinary good

  • whats that weird wining noise. sounds too loud for a turbo.

  • @1234567paddy supercharger

  • @LongbowPol cheers mate i thought so

  • @1234567paddy I'm pretty sure that's the differential

  • @bazzie85 almost. atleast on circuit cars, similar whistling comes from the straightcut gearbox. but, it might aswell be the diff:D

  • @1234567paddy The noise is coming from the gearbox. It's caused by the straight cut gears.

  • perfection

  • Mcrae is good, but Sebastian Loeb is the best WRC driver, 7 times world champion.

  • @brunoiwa bollocks

  • @brunoiwa What does S. Loeb have that C. Mcrae DOSEN'T have??

  • @RevaqOfTheLight

Mcrae 1 time world champion i guess

    Loeb 7 times world champion.

  • @brunoiwa So that makes Loeb better..? Hmpf..

  • @brunoiwa talent and heart, just like in f1, aryton senna was the greatest when he didnt win the most titles, same in wrc with mcrae.

  • @willshelmetcam

Senna didnt win the most titles because he died 16 years ago

  • @brunoiwa read my comment. thats what i said.

  • @RevaqOfTheLight

    A stupid french accent

  • look at that driving...remarkable..

  • the legend on the world.

  • Master in action

  • Colin McRae and Nicky Grist: they were just the best team. Colin with his flat-out-or-nothing driving style, and Nicky with his cool co-driving instructions, always on cue, always professional.

    Thanks for the memories.

  • Colin and Nicky together have redefined rally racing and made WRC much more attractive. All the best to Nicky.

  • One hand drift at 2:48

    Total legend! R.I.P McRae

  • were's the 7'thgear ? 4:01 what a driver !!!!! in 6'th gear about 180 km\h!!!Unbelievable R.I.P.

  • OK sorry for the life story but I havto say those guys weren't the only ones who were nice to us, Many others were the same, including Richard Burns, but I was only young and my heroes were Colin and Possum, so I didn't really worry too much about what the other drivers were like, and didn't have much respect for Tommi, for all I know he could've seen that and that might be why he wasn't that friendly to us, Sorry Tommi you are a great driver and I'm sure you're a good man.

  • Oh and Please could everyone go watch a video of Possum Bourne, he was a Kiwi rally driver cut down long before his time, and also could've beaten the world if Subaru gave him a drive in a Works car. He drove with a very similar attitude to what i saw in Colin Mcrae, and was also very happy to meet us snotty nose kid's and sign our stuff, as was Craig Vincent, his co-driver of the time.

  • I was once lucky enough to get all the driver's autograph's at the start of a recon. stage and I must say I was a bit biased but I can say with all honesty that when I asked Colin and Nicky for their autographs, they seemed genuinely pleased to see us bunch of young locals poking and prodding at them and their car, same can't be said for Tommi Makinen, he may have been having a bad day but he seemed just like he did in the interviews, pissed off and just doing his job. Rest in peace Colin.

  • Colin McRae DiRT 2 ruins this perfection; in DiRT 2 they say ''easy left'' or ''hard right''. To hell with the Californian greed!

    R.I.P. Colin Mcrae

  • @mathias921

You know that you can change the settings so the co-driver gives more detailed directions right? dirt 2 didnt ruin anything lol

  • @TheRealBigPie Please tell me how; I can't find it!?

  • I'd feel lost if I was nick.. He's known Colin pretty much all his life.. R.I.P colin.. A true legend.. Have a good life nick

  • btw, hats off to Nicky Grist, great coordination, he is a top class co driver!

  • What a talent!! Its a shame hes gone forever R.I.P Colin! only one thing though, I wonder where they were racing and would love to know the results of the race

  • i can only say: perfect. R.I.P Colin

  • He was using a T-shirt ??

  • @SangueVerde7 Yeah I thought that was pretty cool too, best drivers in the world and they still drove in t-shirts like the rest of us

  • i cant figure out wat te copilot means exactly

  • @jbitar Wikipedia says: "The co-driver tells the driver what lies ahead, where to turn, the severity of the turn, and what obstacles to look out for." Look for co-driver on wiki.

  • At 4:00 he tries shifting up not knowing he's already in top gear... Colin just felt he wasn't going fast enough LOL

  • @gasfgiop I always do that. Just want to go faster!

  • @gasfgiop Yes its true and I just gave you the 100th thums up

  • Colin is a legend for sure, but he doesn't deserve ALL the praise. What about Nicky Grist, his longtime co-pilot? A pro at what he does, as much as Colin is. Respect, Nicky. Respect also for not throwing up in that stage, I know I would've LOL

  • This is what I call racing a car.

No track or laps, Just a normal road and flooring it!

We surely do miss you Colin!

  • Corsica the good old days

  • how is he shifting? left gear up and right gear down?

  • @timmmmkay He's pushing the shifter away to shift down and towards him to shift up.

  • Man I got tired just watching Colin work - he had great skills

  • A great man, pity the focus was such a terrible car, and still is a massive fail. Why do the best humans leave early?

  • That car sounds fucking awesome.

  • Hey guys, Sorry if I sound so newbie ect, I watched Rallying when I was little, and always like Colin, Can anyone explain what the job of the guy on the right is, He seems to be some form of co-driver / Navigator, but I don't understand the whole 4-, 6 Plus, all this stuff xD Any pro's out there care to explain?

  • @Hunock the job of the co-driver is to tell the driver about the oncoming corners - how fast they are, do they have any dangers (slippery, tree/rock inside, narrow.. whatever), the numbers stand for the gear to use in that corner (3 left means left corner in third gear) and the -/+ mean is it slow in that gear or fast (5 left minus means fifth gear low rpms, 4 right plus means fourth gear high rpms)

sorry if my english is bad

  • a great man, a father, a husband and a great sports man the day he died the world lost the brightest star, this man is my hero.

  • What's up with the driving in a t-shirt?

    Probably fire proof eeh?

  • geez and i have trouble parallel parking LOL

  • R.I.P Colin, one of the greatest drivers in history

  • The best driver ever! poz iz Srbije God bless all Colin fans

  • McRae the legend RIP

  • driving in a t-shirt you don't see that these days

  • 4:28 handbrake powaa *smirk*

  • I like how @ 4:01 he grabs another gear...but he's already in top gear, so nothing happens...I do that all the time on my motorbike, lol. I should buy a gear position indicator...then again I can't count past five anyways...XD

    RIP Colin

  • @TurdFerrguson Used to do that with tractors all the time but they are slow as shit

  • damn, i needed 10 secs to catch a breath after this vid.
