I had the opinion that Emmerich/Devlin/Arnold would be the next Spielberg/Kennedy/Williams trio, but they've separated while working on 'THE MARK' which was never accomplished. What a shame that they dont make movies together any more...
as much as i like the series and i do, in particular what Richard Dean Anderson brought to the role; in all honesty none of the TV series beat the movie. This movie is the Ben Hur of Sci-Fi, one of the greatest Science Fiction films ever made.
Suck big time? The show was in air 10 seasons! Don't fuck me with that shit please... The movie was good... The series are the same... Only with other actors... They deserve respect for all the well done work...
The movie was basically " Star Wars meets 'Spartacus ', meets 'Lawrence of Arabia' " meets ID4. but it was a great basic adventure & spawned a good couple of TV series & direct to DVD movies.
This movie is my favourite/ It in not the BEST movie ever made, but still the one I'd call my favourite
I love the theme music in Stargate. Very good. Has an epic feel to it. I don't know why the soundtrack never even got an Academy Award NOMINATION. It's that good!
However, the theme music in SG-1 just plain sucks. The original music for that series is just weak, and the takes on the music from the original movie are flat bastardizations.
I'll contend that. I thought that Joel Goldsmith did an excellent job connecting the show to the movie without ripping off the entire score. Of course the show didn't have nearly the budget as the movie, so they couldn't afford a full orchestra, much the same problem that Star Trek: TNG had transferring Jerry Goldsmith's theme from the first movie.
I'll admit I never considered the size of the orchestra.
However, I found that the scores that Goldsmith wrote that DIDN'T incorporate many or any of David Arnold's themes were, while not perfect in the least, were preferable to the scores that are simply Goldsmith's takes on Arnold's themes. In fact, I find his work on Stargate Atlantis, which is 100% original music he created without any borrowing from the movie's themes, to be far superior to his work on SG-1.
I think you'll find that's true with any composer. Goldsmith is trying to match the mood of music he didn't write, and is trying to sound creative and original even while basing his scores on a theme that isn't his. This is very difficult, and drastically reduces the quality of the finished product. Taking this in mind, yes, the Atlantis music is superior and overall wonderful, but considering what he was forced to work with, SG-1 wasn't that bad either.
Dude, this song's name is Stargate Movie Opening Theme. Nothin' else. It doesn't have a concrete name. Or if it have, I've never heard/seen it then. If you wanna copy of this song, just download it by "youtube to mp3" program man.
the movie set the stage for the series, the movie AND the series rox, i love them both! no one else but Micheal shanks can pull off james spader's portrail of Daniel jackson
Why bother comparing av movie with a TV-show? A movie will look better and have better effects, but a TV show will have the advantage of a long storyline. They are a part of too different worlds.
Excuse Me? Why don't you get your head out of your butt and look around. Stargate SG-1 is by far the best science fiction show of all time. Easily better than the movie.
but the movie was the original so give it some credit lol... they just have better SFX and stuff... i think the original Daniel Jackson was much better
yeah i know the acting is good, but im talkin bout i prefer james spader cos i thought he was so hot in a sweet way lol...thas the only reason i dnt reli watch the series much...i still love it tho
my DVD of the film came today, i still thought it was good lol... but one thing, i dont understand the end, they leave daniel on the planet cos hes married to the woman... now, i never saw the first series and im guessing this was explained then...cos there would have been no way for him to return as they were gonna dismantle the stargate... SO CONFUSED NOW lol
it wasnt dismantled. it was just pulled over a great .... er titanium super sheet or something really powerfull. since they want no aliens come through to earth, its a migthy sheet you see in the first episode! :D super protection :S
so then why did daniel come back?? did something happen? cos he says something like "it was good knowing you" and then someone replies "are you gonna be ok?" and he says yea like they r leaving him...
when apophis came through the stargate from chulak (with teal'c) to abduct a host for the goa'uld that was apophis's wife, the sgc thought that he came from abydos (the planet daniel was on). It was believed that abydos was the only planet in the galaxy that had a stargate not including earth the sgc contacted daniel through the stargate to find out if the gate was opened on his side. they found out that apophis did not come from abydos, and with help of the abydos cartoushe, they found chulak.
David Arnold did the movie theme while Joel Goldsmith does the TV show. While SG1's theme is a reworking of the movie's theme, Atlantis is entirely Goldsmith's original.
I personally like the TV show. I am next in line at the library for the movie version.. But hey. I don't see the huge diff. Both still have the same premise. THis just covers one planet.
This theme music was *not* used in the series, only cut here and there. The SG-1 main theme does comprise some of the basic themes written by David Arnold, but were reassembled and conducted by Joel Goldsmith.
The guy, Jaye Davidson, is NOT Latino. LOL. He's half African. In fact, his father is from Ghana, a sub-Saharan country. He's black. He does have a white English mother though. So, I guess biracial would be the proper term.
HELL YEAH!! F*ck the crappy in comparison TV show. The film and the show are independent from each other, story-wise, as the show has a totally different backstory than the movie. It's like comparing the original Transformers to the latest movie of the Transformers. Yeah, both have the same characters and general backround, but they're both totally different.

Was it Williams who did the music to Stargate also?

@Kaza0kun No, this was David Arnold. But Williams wrote the theme for "The Patriot" by Emmerich.
