Why can we not have talent like her today? Don't get me wrong, entertainers like Lady Gaga and Kesha have catchy tunes but why can't we have talent where all you need is pure voice and talent? Lady Gaga and others need huge fancy costumes, staging, etc. Look at Karla. It's her, her backup singes, and her voice and yet she is 20 times more talented and entertaining than most performers today. We still have Broadway though haha.
and rory dodd in the background (on the left). it's a pity he never had a solo album. without him a lot of jim steinman's songs wouldn't be the same. <3
Is there any genre of song that this wonderful songstress cannot just nail dead on? Ballads, torch songs, power pop, rockers and,of course, the incredible Live performances of Paradise.Bet she could have done some great covers of some of the Brill Building girl group songs (like Walking In The Sand or Leader Of The Pack). Karla is a treasure & YouTube is becoming a great resource to see/hear some of the DeVito performances we may have missed the first time around.
@gypsyclublady Nicely put. I have the old Bat Out Of Hell album signed by Karla, Meat, and Jim all the way from 1978. That, and a tambourene (sic?) thrown by Freddie Mercury in concert are among my most prized possessions
It isn't Karla you hear in the original videos from Meat's album Bat Out of Hell, it's Ellen Foley !
When the album finally, after a long long time made it out in the public Ellen was busy with her own career and also, according to Meat Loaf, "-Karla was better on stage the Ellen."
Yes it is Karla in the vids. Numbnuts here on youtube dubed in the sound from the CD. If you ever went to the "Rocky Horror Picture Show" back in the mid and late 1970's when it double featured with "The Groove Tube" you would have seen the Bat Out of Hell videos during the intermission.
Well, she's Connie Francis but a helluva voice -- See "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" with Meatloaf. Hey, did you know she's married to Robby Benson?
Robby's MARRIED???? just kidding. I love Karla, and I am glad she married my childhood sweetpie (I had a perpetual crush on him-of course he never knew!) Anyway, just glad they are happy. Both are super talented.
karla devito rocks i think she is beautiful and has a beautiful voice ...

Guys, this is almost 30 years old. Sexy and gorgeous most likely don't fit her today.

This gal certainly IS the sweetheart of Rock & Roll! I find her much warmer and versatile than that other gal.

aputey recently posted two videos of Karla and Meat singing Paradise live in 1978. They're on my favorites list. Karla tears it up. Love her!

Karla wasn't the actual voice on "Paradise by the Dashboard light", it was a woman named Ellen Foley.
davidgoodpaster 5 years ago
Ellen Foley (also known as "Billie" on Night Court) sang on the album, but Karla DeVito did the song on tour and in the video.
rantmanmacq 4 years ago
Karla lipsynched in the video to Billie's voice.
chamarka7 4 years ago
According to IMDB, she played Billie in a show called Modern Love. I didn't see where she was in Night Court.
Isn't she wonderful???
