Does anyone know the name of the full movie? Someone mentions that the clip is from The 1965 American Folk Blues Festival in Europe, but it appears to be the end of a full length film. If anyone can help, I would love to know the name. Thanks.
Why do we not have any female artists with this kind of talent today?? She is covered head to toe in clothing and just used her MUSICAL TALENT to command respect. She doesn't need to show off body parts to get respect!
@ACExAmps We do but their talents never see the light of day...hey maybe we can start a list bad ass women talents who wear clothes hit me up somebody let us share.
Yes, it's J,B, Lenoir! This is a video made during the Ameican Folk Blues Festival 1965 tour in Europe done by Lippmann and Rau and included J,B, Lenoir, Eddie Boyd, Freddie Below, Roosevelt Sykes, Mississippi Fred McDowell and Lonesome Jimmy Lee.
J.B. Lander she says is actually a gentleman by the name of J.B.Lenoir, and hes one of the greatest bluesmen to ever live. A truly sweet and standout of his time, he wasnt pressing the market as hard as his counterparts at that time. still playing any gigs he could get. Look him up on tracks like talk to your daughter, hes a legend just like the rest of them.
@adamjhulk as long as i have been watching this video somebody finally noticed Hooker playing the harp even though his first verse was better then his second lol
@im4out if we put our heads together, maybe we can wind back time... thank you for this gem, Michael. Big Mama is Boss indeed. Lovely way to start the week, thanks for sharing. <3 <3 <3
@im4out hey now! Thanks to you, after the relief of a big stress today, i can revisit this Timeless Gem, pure drop of what's at the heart of any Music that came thereafter!
this is fucking priceless. Its funny, you hear her playing and she doesnt even really know song structure and still has amazing soul in her singing and playing. In the video of houd dog with her and buddy guy she doesnt even really know the song is coming to an end. Goes to show blues really is a feeling.
Im gonna busk on the streets of the world some day and hopefully after having felt hunger and loneliness, coldness and homelessness, i can learn the ways of these people. Blues is a feeling.
@soundofsarcasm Hey hows the harp comin along for you? It is quite a journey trying to emulate our idols hey? Who are you into? Im a Sonny Boy II, Paul Butterfield and Canned Heat fan.
@beninboomba Yeah! I've started to learn two months ago but I still have problems with blowing DIRECTLY to a just one hole - sometimes it doesn't work ;) I love Paul Butterfield, Rysiek Riedel (from the band ''Dżem'') and Tadeusz Nalepa ^^
@soundofsarcasm Yeah that can be hard but its the first important step to master. I can only talk for lip pursing, because I don't tongue block, but imagine you are holding a drinking straw between your lips. Thats the shape you want to channel the air through individual holes. And also as you move up and down the harp, dont take your mouth of it from hole to hole. Keep your mouth on it and move the harp through your lips. When it clicks and you get it consistently you will improve very quickly.
I'm sure she said J.B. Lander? Who cares that's Big Mama Thornton. I never knew J.B. Lenoir could blow harp too. I'm gonna go get my Lee Oskars and crank this up.
I took care of Dr Ross, on his first UK tour, when coming by train through the urban slums Dr Ross said " I shore wish I had a fine house like these".
I mentioned this on another Vid,..Blues was more popular in the UK and Germany ,just check where this was filmed. Not in the Deep south USA ,but post war Germany. America Spawned bieber for it's sins.
