  • man reni's quite something on the drums! that roll at 2:35 is amazing.

  • Ian's voice was at its peak in 1990

  • WTF. 'Ian Brown Sings In Tune' shock.

  • I want Reni to come and make love to my woman just because he is Reni and he is allowed.

  • I wasn't even born then haha! Like 5 months almost to the day before I was born... How I wish I could see these guys live! They are so good....

  • i didn't even noticed ian with reni in cadre

  • There should be a DVD of this with the option of just watching the ReniCam.

    :)

  • ian singing very well.

    perfect condition

  • ian brown actually singing really well

  • @GreenGobllin Hell no. Liam Gallagher thinks he's Ian Brown.

  • @lopi8 Acutally Liam thinks he's John Lennon.

  • Comment removed

  • @HonkyCat90 he thinks hes both

  • @GreenGobllin Haha. In 1990. I dont think so. Roses aside, it shows you dont even know much about Oasis. In interview they always said they were influenced by the Stone Roses.

  • @GreenGobllin thats funny because this is 1990 an Oasis didnt form until 1991 and they werent that big until about 1994 so you are talking out of your arse

  • the lead kicks ass

  • I was at this concert. I was on exchange in Finland, and we stood at the barrier next to the stage for hours to be at the front row when they played. We were also the ones that took down the Confederate flag and threw it on stage. Some Finnish people came up and punched us a few times. We had to wait by the barrier for an hour after the concert because we were afraid they'd follow us to the school where we were staying. We got Lex Interior's pump from the Cramps performance earlier that day

  • I saw them lots in the 80's..Reni was outstanding & I'd love to have poached him but I knew he's never leave the Stone Roses..no way was that band not going to make it big time..toook a good while but they got there in the end..then of coarse Reni left & that my friends was the end of the dream..but one helluva dream at the time.. and a long lasting legacy..thank you & goodnight..Peace!!

  • @Waitingforriki ...I hate mistakes!! Obviously I meant to put 'he'd' never leave the Stone etc..And then 'took a while' not 'toook'..since when has 'took' had 3 'o's'?? Apart from these two little anomalies the rest is perfect..but not perfect enough! Hot dang..that's what you say in the US 'eh? In Manchester we'd say 'Fookin' bollards'..or 'bleedin' shite'..particularly when one has spilt one's pint!

  • All of them played wonderfully but beautiful vocals from Ian contradicts the opinion of him not being able to sing... here he sings beautifully...

  • Reni... the original rythmical Tsunami...

  • Its unbelivable how the excelent Stone Roses once came to my Country did superb gig there and I wasnt even born.

Its unheard nowadays that kind of good band would been to finnish rock festival

  • legend says that Pete Townshend wanted Reni to The Who. I can understand him.

  • He saw a young Roses in '84 at an anti-Heroin gig with Reni in action and tried to nick him for his Solo albums. Cheek!

  • @marqueeclub67 Roger Daltrey said he was more talented than Keith Moon i think.

  • reni is amazing... was the keith moon of those years!

  • Great sound

  • RENI RENI RENI !! you better get some more music in my face before you die. tehbest drummer ever. no doubt. dambusters.

  • I was at spike island. Wow. This is the best they sounded. I stayed on the site slept there the day before the show and cought the soundcheck. Reni was playing like the devil. For the sheer hell of it. He played for about and hour on his own, maybe more. Amazing. I met Ian and the boys there. They were amazing.

  • you are sooo lucky id give my left nut to see them at spike island

  • wow you were at that gig?

i heard the sound was crap, but what was the atmosphere like?

lots of now famous faces were at that gigf

  • @hoani and to quote Mani "he could piss all over me on bass too."

  • They sound perfect here.....priceless.

  • ive been told they were shit live

  • nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • pta como me hubiese gustado estar ahi, pro tenia 1 semana de nacido ese dia

  • Saw them play in Belfast that May. Amazing music (not such great vocals :D

  • Reni is the last British drummer !!

  • Reni was the best musician ever

  • Haha, this is the first video on youtube where Ian Brown gives a fairly good vocal performance! :D

Not hating, his singing sounds great even when he's just shouting, but this one is one of the few where he sings similar to the record.

  • totally agree ! I've listened to countless roses live stuff on youtube - this the first decent vocal i've heard - fuckin quality !

  • Maybe he was miming???!!! ; )

  • Man.. its so good to watch Reni fly, the guy is the definition of cool! He plays this with such enjoyment, confidence and swagger. He is the star of the show, I know Squire/Brown wrote the tunes, but live Reni was everything - He gave them the rhythm and the soul the power and the glory. He's one of the most underated musicians ever. I'd love to see the Roses unite, just so the world can see how good he really is in HD instead of this grainy youtube stuff.

  • Hell yeah! Real shame he never gets any credit. Much better than Bonham etc.

  • what's the symbol for the Roses....

    Reni's beani hat....end of

The guy is a magician, you can't take your eyes off him, so fluid., would love to see them all together again but my headsays NO, leave them as a memory

  • Fucking Reni, playing them drums like that AND singing the harmonies!!! THE BEST OF THE BEST.

  • The roses at there spontaneous best beautiful man.

  • What a gig it was I see. And I think that the band enjoyed it too. I remember reading from local small newspaper here in Finland an interview of Mani when he came to country this summer w/ Primal Scream and he could still remember the name of the festival and the year when this gig was. he also said it reminded him of manchester coz he'd never seen so many drunken people in audiance before haha. "I remember that the people in Finland party pretty much the same way than people back home" he said.

  • it is mesmerizing to watch reni drum

  • I never realized how fucking good Reni was until I saw this video. Damn.

  • wow i knew all along he's the fuckin shit

  • Somehow it never emerged into the world just how stunning he was, better than Bonham and Moon - no doubts. Listen to Second Coming when he adds another tom-tom to his kit. Daybreak may not be the Roses' best song but his drumming is remarkable.

  • Watch the "I Am The Resurrection" video at the 1989 Empress Ballroom gig

  • Hot damn could they have been any more GOD back then? No, I do not think that they could.

  • Pop, pop, pop, blow, blow bubble-gum... I must admit he DOES sound "in tune" here ;). Awesome!

  • Oh shit, meant to say... This performance was wasted in Finland! Should have been back home :(

  • i seen him live at carling academy and he sung well, maybe he just has days where he dosent want to sing properly or something. On this vid his ioce sounds great

  • Most days then

  • That's what I'm talking about. This is the voice I was waiting for.

  • Ian voice is top on this usually its shit live

  • This is the one! This is the voice!

  • That was pure, unadalterated genius. I'd forgotten just how beautiful this song was.

You are witnessing four lads from Manachester with the world in the palm of their hands. Where did it all go wrong? :-(

  • gr8 song and gr8 band

  • Is this really ian brown singing live? Amazing. I saw him live in 2001 and he wasn't as good.

  • yeah, his voice does sound surprisingly good for once

  • Check out Art Blakey for drummers other jazz drummers are wicked jus cant think!

  • sally cinamon

    what a tune

ian browns latest live performances r ace 2

  • ian's voice sounds good here

  • one of the best songs ever written

  • The boys just ooze love and soul and everyone feels it even if they won't admit it. They're gonna go which they way they wanna go but i'll take the Live Forever me.

  • only one word can describe this?? GENIUS

  • plz reform now lol

  • they give me the feeling i know i should have all the time, they r simply too good, they are the best, but then so r oasis and the beatles, but the stone roses....boy i just cant describe it, love them man.

  • i know wot u mean

  • Watching Reni fly makes this clip on its own.

  • It's awesome to watch him perform. I wish there was a video with him playing during Fool's Gold ( I've already looked & couldn't find any).

  • He was such a huge part of what they did. He deserves more recognition.

  • Reni, that is. :)

  • Yup, I agree.

Now, since I'm not an expert in drummers,

I am curious: can anyone out there suggest any other drummers in the history of rock'n'roll that I can look up who performed with as much dynamic "acrobatics" as Remi?

  • Apart from the obvious like keith moon you mean?

  • Jaki Leibezeit from Can was exceptionally gifted at rhythm drumming. Few drummers have the same loose rolls like Reni and Keith, though. It's very difficult to do! And he Manc lad could sing at the same time. No one else comes close.

  • Alright!

ian rocked the mic on this one

but as i listen, the finish sound guys were on the ball too

hate it when live vocals have no depth in the mixer. gotta compete with john's screaming guitar somehow

    more clubs need vocal preamps

  • I hear that.... I'll be listening to this shit for the rest of my days, as will my kids and their fucking kids..... too good!!!!

This band knew how to connect with ordinary people. Ian Brown - met him in a restaurent in London, and he was sound as fuck, aweseome - apparently Mani is the same, down to earth....

  • 15 didnt give a fuck about music until heard waterfall on an mix tape from my mate, 32 and i still think THE best band ever.

  • one of the greatest bands with the perfect mix of talent.... I love them all.

Stone Roses living for fucking generations to come...

  • lol wait he is nvm. i was totally blown away for 2 mins

  • omfg is reni no wearing a hat

  • He has got a hat on...

  • Me too ;)

  • Mate you got any more of this?

  • first time he sings in tune...

  • gr8 song and gr8 band

  • I wonder if Noel Gallagher was there....

  • stone roses r mint i love this tune

  • mint :

  • They are brilliant even now, I think.

    Awesome! Thank you for sharing.

  • aha! lol when brown was in tune

  • wow. you're right. they are one of my all time favorites but the first time I heard a live recording i thought "what the f---? that guy can't sing a note." He sounds good in this though. Ironically, the video quality is horrible.

  • Thinaminj. Thalli Thinaminj ~

  • Great performance! Thanks for posting!

  • THE BEST BAND EVER!

  • Absolute quality!!!

  • anyone got 'all across the sands' - please, please, please! Lj x

  • indiegirl111,

I don't have any video footage on 'All Across The Sands', but I've got a live mp3 track (performed in 1987 in International). I can send it to you if you want.

  • hi

that would be fantastic - thanks x

  • I've uploaded it on rapidshare, but YouTube doesn't allow for URLs in comments, so I'll PM you the link.

  • i told sally i was never happy , i needed so much more - sent to from heaven, sally ciinamon you are my world - the fucken STONE ROSES man - the greeeatest!!!!!

  • Reni is an absolute gigmaster, how can someone that talented give it up? Its a mystery to me.

  • Same with me - I just don't understand how he could just go and discard such a gift? When you're this talented, what can be more important than that?

  • SNEL SNEL! Let op! Ekt snil pop del rip tel snr! SNEL! SNEL! LOOOL! LOL! LOLLOOOLOO!

  • Reni is the best drummer, lets face it they were all pure class

  • Renis in par with keith moon best drummer 85/94 by a long shot this was a nice treat who ever sent it thanks alot more more more please

  • King Monkey is the coolest frontman EVER

  • muy buenos , como era de esperar en ellos jeje

    stone roses forever

  • Total class. Nobody gets near the stone roses.

  • I remember the roses - this was brilliant. There's a local tribute band to the roses called Red Star - woth watching. Daz

  • At the time(1989/1990) NME had Reni at number 1 in a best drummers of all time feature.

  • Whoah! Where did this come from? Nice one!

  • Reni ... most underrated drummer of all time

  • Underated? In a sense, yes - but everyone who saw him live knew full well he was just in another league altogether. Best drummer ever.

  • Reni aint the most underrated drummer of all time, most people who have listened to the Roses say he's the best drummer ever.

  • Maybe I shouldn't have phrased it that way, but what I was trying to say is that he doesn't get the type of recognition as say John Bonham or Keith Moon even though imo he is just as good of a drummer if not better than those guys.

  • the Roses at their peak in full flight

    absolutely fucking wonderful

  • Reni full flight. Fucking untouchable. Top class

  • did you film this? i envy you.
