New flooring is crap, the finish is soft, the material under the finish is very easy to damage. Oak flooring with good poly clearcoat is the only way to go. And good luck using this tool, the hot knife takes a lot of practice to get good at it. Doing burn ins is not something for the inexperienced.
We have had Mohawk flooring in all our homes. We loved it...until now. We bought a new home with approx. 3800sft of Mohawk wood flooring. We have been here approx. 8 months. The floor is horrible. The smallest pressure by anything leaves deep scratches, which cannot be repaired. I have never even allowed guests to wear shoes in our homes.
