As a Marseille supporter, I felt very bad when Vata qualifed Benfica for the Champions League final - scoring with his hand. Everybody saw it, except the referee. But there's far worse: why hasn't Harald Schumacher received a red card for crushing Battiston's jaw in 1982's WC? Everybody saw it, except the referee... Shit happens.

Actually this match ws totally unfair for Portugal and i'm not referring just to the penalty.The goal scored by France was offside so if we take for granted that France's goal shouldn't count the match ends 1-0 for Portugal so no more discussion for the penalty...

Ok, here it is:

Did the ball touch his hand? Yes

Was is intentional? No

Did A.Xavier have any way of taking out the hand after the shot was done? No

Was the hand near the body? No

Was it put there with intention of defending? No, check other plays,he always defends like that.

Conclusion: In my opinion it's not a penalty cos he didn't put the hand there with the intention of stoping a goal, he had no way of taking out of there after the shot was done. Have it your way, this is the truth.

But, if u want to record all the football injustices of the world, take your time, there are many. every country had been victim of unfair decisions and moved on. seem that portugal can't move on a right decision

@Baguette81 1. the ball wasn't going in. 2nd: he didn't put his hand to stop the ball, the ball went for his hand, he didn't move at all... so it wasn't intentionall... no penalty!

@juve4ever54 Rules state that the hand has to be intentional! if the referee tought this was intentional he would have had to give a red card to A.Xavier. He didn't, so it's clear what he did.

xavier had made a "handling offense to deny an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by any player other than a goalkeeper in his own penalty area" without the hand it was goal for france. A.xavier should be punished by a red card (law 12 Fouls and Misconduct). but the referee did'nt and give a red card for insulting and gestures to Nuno gomes.

it's not an injustice and portugal team hadn't been victim of unfair decision.
