I know someone might say 'well you can go and hunt for your food like those eskimo's do in Greenland' or (insert some other place). True to a point. But if most of us did that in the US. For example the 2 flocks of Turkeys that live near our house. How long would those guys be alive? Would some law prevent it? What if I need a costly license. Hunting like that works for some, but not as a national or state-wide policy, and especially not city-dwellers.
Plus if we are going to have Traders dreaming of recessions and have them periodically then the social safety net need to have rules set up to accommodate that fact, and if Churches want to help pay for it, they can easily give up some of their tax free status and help personally fun this social safety net. But when you can't find a job or get punished for actually going to get trained for better job or actually making more and need food I appreciate it is available.
Before you say "get a job". We have them, and we have even made more money, and trust me making more harms you but due to the sheer cost of private coverage going from 26k to 31k income doesn't really net us much of a gain. It means the benefits we had before vanish or are greatly reduced and any new income goes toward that plus you get the experience of being dropped for 'prior existing conditions', for life-threatening things like Iron treatments.
So if these Churches and candidates really support 'family values' they would reward not penalize EBT programs or WIC threholds. When we got married the threshold didn't double, it remains the same. It is based on dependents. She had 3 kids. We eventually had 1 child together so we qualify for a goodly amount of medicare/foodstamps. We never apply for Welfare and I don't want insurance (I have VA) but my wife ultimately lost her access and yet needed it the most. I simply go to the VA.
