Hey! I think I'm starting to understand this animation; it's all a cycle. I really enjoy listening to this track. I find the Russian style of singing reminiscent of Arabic singing, as though it is the bridge between Europe and Asia. Very dark and atmospheric. I didn't like the video, as I felt it was saturated with cliched imagery, trying to affirm its sinister nature but using predictable devices. Also the Flash animation was basic, even amateurish, and undermined the professional production of the music. I really like the song though, well done Theodor Bastard.

I don't know what Theodor Bastard's intentions were when producing this track, so you may be correct, it may be intentionally replicating Arabic intonation, but haven't you noticed that intonation present in some traditional Russian folk music?

No, can't say I've noticed that intonation in Russian folk. I've heard it in Bulgarian and Macedonian music, which experienced Turkish influence, but not Russian. Could you provide an example?

Apart from other non-Southern Slavic folk music, Russian traditional music is most reminiscent of Baltic and Finno-Ugric folk. Many of the famous 'Russian' folk singers were actually from Finno-Ugric ethnicities rather than Russian (e.g. Lidia Ruslanova, Nadezhda Kadysheva, etc.)

Hm, songs which I noticed had a vocal similarity to Arabic folk was Zelionaya Roschitsa, Kudelka, Golubka, Ne Budite and a number of others that I can't remember. I hadn't heard of Finno-Urgic folk music, but now that I've listened to some, this may be what I misinterpreted to be an Arabic style. Certainly they have similarities musically with the folk of countries such as Afghanistan and Turkey, often the sort of rhythm of Romani music. So I apologise, I may have been incorrect :)
