I've been happy with G11. Every time i take pictures for friends, & show them the shots to review, they're always amazed at the clarity. Nine out of ten times, they would ask me what kind of camera i'm shooting with. This is probably the best Point & Shoot out there. My next step from here is the Canon 7D or the 5D Mark II.
After much contemplation, I have decided to get the G11, which should arrive tomorrow. While I love the weight, feel, overall design and photo quality of the G10, my research points me in the direction of the G11. Stay tuned. Btw, if you're lookin for a great bag for the G10, look no further than the Lowepro Apex 60AW. It's perfect.
All I ever wanted was a high end Nikon DSLR,so I got one,D300 and 18-200mm lens Perfection!.........or was it?Before any of you buy a DSLR like this, please consider that when on days out etc,you have to actually carry this thing around, its no fun when on holiday lumping this brick around, and thats without any accessories!I got a G10 as a easy carry round to ease the pain of carrying around the "brick" all the time.Well a year on I now have the G11 as well! the D300 etc is gone!
Many many times I missed valuable opportunities of catching some brilliant photos because i couldnt be hassled to carry all that gear. Now I have Both the G10 & G11,Why both you may ask?The G10 is stunning at doing landscapes, portraits, candids, scenery, etc etc as long as you have good lighting, the moment you loose light image quality does suffer as the isos increase above 200.This is where the G11 comes in,Trust me the G11 is a brilliant low light camera. These cameras are brilliant!
Absolutely. I've spoken with many professional photographers, & they all say the same thing. When they don't want the bulk of a dslr, but need the features of a dslr in a compact size, they take along the G10. The added plus is that it's very low key because it can slip in & out of your pocket. Afterall, you can get some nice candid shots because the G10 is so inconspicuous. Dslr's are just too heavy. You want something you can take with you everywhere without sacrificing much.
In the opening shot, I had just gotten the camera and was trying to show my brother how the texture of the lime really popped. He was blown away and wanted to get the camera too. Pai sai bor leum kao neo
The more expensive cameras from Canon and others now offer HD video capture. I've seen some of those videos and they're so detailed and life-like. In contrast, I still prefer standard definition because it is more film-like. I was at the store the other day and I saw Bedtime Stories in HD. It looked like I was watching a home video
Slinky: I just got my camera and I don't understand why I'm able to trim some pictures and others it tells me "cannot modify image"..... also, I need advice on how to take pictures that are zoomed very very close so I can even see the hair on the skin. Oh, one more thing.. if I have a group picture, I'm able to magnify and display a small portion of the it but how can I save it?? Please SOS
You can't modify an image that has already been modified. Save a copy to your computer and modify the original "in camera". When you're magnifying a small portion of the pic, that's for focusing purposes.
Just as the saying goes "You need the right tool to get the job done", but if you don't know how to use the tool or know of it's capabilities, it won't do you any good.
Learn to use this camera and you won't want to use anything else.

I just lost my camera. I think it fell out of my backpack. One thing I know for sure is that since I have a 2nd chance to buy another camera, my choice is still the Canon G10. Heavier than a Point & Shoot, but all the features of an SLR, but without the bulk & weight of the SLR.

Lots of reviews will point you towards the G9, but the layout of the buttons and being able to shoot in wide makes more sense. After using this camera, I can not go back to using Point & Shoots. This camera gives you so much control over the lighting and how your pictures will come out. Exactly what a camera should do.
