hey i was wondering iv seen a variation (i think) of this but you spread your legs out further with your knees bent and kinda facing to one side. it looks like your gonna pull them over your leg but you throw them over your shoulder. sorry im not a judo guy so i dont really know how else to explain it but pretty much from the hips up its like the same throw if someone could tell me what its called id appreciatte it thanks.
@anirudhkrishnamani It depends on how your body is. Some people can't throw someone overhead and some don't like it sideways. When an opponent is smaller/lighter than I, I would throw my opponent overhead. When my opponent is heavier and/or taller, I would throw my opponent sideways. After all, when you throw someone overhead, there's a higher chance to get him on his back 'cause when throwing sideways he might roll over in his fall and you won't score.
@anirudhkrishnamani No, you are supposed to go to the side, it makes the throw a lot easier. When they are on your back all you do is look left and turn left and they come right off your shoulder.
Well, since you're nitpicking, I'll point out to you that, whenever you're writing a foreign word with a different alphabet (in this case, a Japanese word), you're doing so phonetically, which means there's a certain level of flexibility in how thing are spelled. Like 'Mohammed' or 'Muhammed', 'Bin Laden' or 'Ben Laden', etc. Vocabulary 'rules' are descriptive, not prescriptive.
the student did slap his hand both times. He just raised it again quicky afterwards, which is good technique as it helps protect the hand from being crushed by anything.

hmm... i prefer throwing my opponent overhead not sideways..
i think that's how its done actually.
probably he's throwing him of to the side because its just an instructional vid(to avoid injury).
