No one gives a shit about which companies use DRM; they care about the fact that it is there. Also, Microsoft did not invent DRM; DRM TECHNOLOGIES did. Maybe you should look up information before you whine about things you have no understanding or intellectual grasp of. DRM is used primarily in entertainment mediums, not software.
Every mac comes with an operating system so installing it on 100 computers is fine because you've paid for the 100 computers that come with the operating system. It's not like you can go into a store and buy a mac without an operating system.
I hope you macfaggots enjoy your overpriced pieces of shit (with shitty hardware, we all know Apple uses shitty parts. I dissected my old powerbook (that I got for free on Craigslist) and found a Foxconn motherboard (very, very shitty Asian company) with it's UNIX-based Childproof OS (because if you can't innovate, imitate).
This is eBaums. Not 4chan. Not these imaginary people you claim to be "harassing" you. it's eBaums. Fucker.
There are lots of people dedicated to cracking DRM, just because they can. And they make it easy for pirates to download a program, download a crack, and/or replace a couple of files.
Whereas, DRM has caused many problems for legitimate users that the pirates don't get, because they have the DRM cracked.
As for keys, a lot of the linux distro's have no key either, try them out. you might learn a couple of things about computers. What Linux does now that OSX does not. (Compiz Fusion, check it out)
Works with all my external hardware, External Creative Live just works with Suse, not so with OSX, Sometimes it causes a crash, no cds needed, same goes for printers. Cameras, Mobile Phones (even your precious iPhone, no exchange needed)Why? Because We know what we are doing and we get it to just work.
When you buy a CD, you expect to be able to play it on any CD Player on the market. If I purchase an MP3 then I expect to be able to play it on any MP3 Player on the market, as for copying DVD's, ever heard of dd? As for monitoring, little nasty secret of OSX, It reports back to base what you do on your mac. I'm not too happy with apple knowing what I use a computer for, as for media Players, most Windows Users use VLC. Try it out, it plays everything, even DVD's and you can rip with it too.
NO REGISTRATION KEY. That is huge. Winheads don't even know what that's like, to be trusted. And now they're whining "don't put the competition down"? Puhleeese.
Emeek is the worst that ever happened to Apple on YouTube. He thinks he's doing Apple a favor and yes, maybe some buy a Mac after listening to him, but at the same time he also turns a lot more people away from Macs for a long time. Apple makes good products, and you should promote them by showing what they can do and not by putting the competition down. It's like with music...If you're an artist/singer you try to perform better than anyone else, you don't go bashing fellow artists to gain fans.
Apple and Microsoft both loosely back DRM, but Apple being a stronger backer of it. It was not a product of Microsoft. The first was DVD Forum in 1996, which is... Hitachi, Ltd. Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. Mitsubishi Electric Corporation Pioneer Electronic Corporation Royal Philips Electronics N.V. Sony Corporation Thomson Time Warner Inc. - Blame these guys more then the others, Toshiba Corporation Victor Company of Japan (JVC) Really, stop posting shit, you're a waste of air.
He stopped making tutorials...now it's all about Pc vs Apple... it seems he's getting owned a lot lately that he has the need to make so many PC vs Mac videos...it just shows how frustrated he is lol
He's addicted....seriously, I don't think he can stop at any time... when I'm 75 and have my grandchildren on my lap I will still seeing him making these kind of videos...I'm 100% sure of that lol
LOL. Emeek's addiction to "mac vs pc" videos also has some sort of masochist element. If there is anything Emeek has accomplished with his vast arrays of videos it is self humiliation.
Pick one, or tell me if I forgot any, but MS and Apple are nowhere near the top of that list.
If, like you say, there really is no difference between the single and family pack then you're saying that you would pay extra for something with no added value. Hahaha
Doesn't Final Cut Pro have product keys. Anyway, reason for no product keys and registration is because the computer it's self is a product key. No other computer is allowed except a Mac to install OS X. Althought this is great for the Mac user not to bother with it, it does cause problems like Psystar for example. I think Apple will need to at least move to product keys especially once they start selling more in China.
The same I will say to you. Amazon's MP3 songs have LOWER quality—256kbps AAC>256kbps MP3. - Atheismrulez
Is the iTunes DRM free 256kpbs? If it is then Amazon has the same bit rate. I haven't downloaded any of the new DRM free iTunes, so I don't know. I really don't plan to even if it is DRM free. My previous purchased songs, over 100 of them are still DRM, sadly I have to pay more to have those DRM free. *Sigh* why is Apple not unlocking the DRM songs I already own?
Yes, that's why it's called iTunes Plus and not DRM-free iTunes. Apart from the songs being DRM free, you also get 2x the quality—256kbps AAC, as opposed to 128kbps.
"why is Apple not unlocking the DRM songs I already own?"
They need people to pay because (i) the Record labels require them to, and (ii) they need to re-encode the songs at a higher quality.
Also Eric, the latest version of iWork 09 has no serial or registration. If you were a pirate you could install it on 100 computers, but Apple trusts us not to.
The one point I don't agree on is online movies, because I think the people who pay will always pay, and the people who steal will just find a way around the drm, or just watch the movie and screen record it.
- iLife no SN iLife and iWork Single licence and FamilyPack (5 comp in the house) : Same DVD only different boxes and prints on the DVD : - iWork 09 Trial, downloadable from Apple site, Boxed - iWork 09 : NO serial at all - Mac OS X Client : No Serial No Activation for serialized SW: - FinalCutStudio & Express: SN only, No Activation - Logic (used to have an dongle, no more dongle now) - Shake (used to have FlexLM server) - Mac OS X Server. They do trust their user but aren't that stupid.
That is not DRM though, you can still run the songs on any computer you own. It stores your email so that if you upload the song to p2p sites they can trace it back to the pirate. And thats a good thing don't you agree? It will help keep the price down for us legal users, without inflicting shitty DRM.
That doesn't have anything to do with DRM or Copy Protection. They have tags with your info. on it in case you pirate it, so they can track you down. Also, Apple is not the only company to do the same.
Apple is a hardware company. They don't require activation on OSX because they already sold you the hardware. If they opened up OSX and allowed you to put it on something besides a Mac, you could bet the farm they'd have to require some type of activation.
Consider the generation: they have this sense of entitlement; everything should be free. As for movies: a real film connoisseur is going to want the actual object, and the connoisseurs are about 10% of the pop. However, 90% of movies are crap anyway, and it's these movies the execs don't want you to know how crappy they are, until they've got you "jailed" in the theater. NOTHING will completely eradicate piracy; there will only be degrees of anti-piratical protection.
Well done Erik. I got myself a new reference video I can fall back on in debates, and I'll see if I can find time to create my own video offering my thoughts.

PS. Apple's trusting me with OSX not requiring activation was a major selling point for me.
No, they don't TRUST you - they're a business. They don't trust anybody on anything.
You're being brainwashed by your own shitty little Apple rules and Microsoft Sucks world. I'm a Mac user primarily, and I'm ashamed to see a Mac user behave in this manner. We're all computer users, some of us prefer one OS over another - that doesn't make anybody right and wrong about anything, just idiots like you being brainwashed and chatting rubbish.
dont trust us? Tha why does apples OS have no Copy protection? Windows DRMis Horrible, you enter serial numbers etc. With apple you have NO NOTHING. So what is it if its not trust? It costs nothing to implement drm as a serial number etc. And apple DONT DO IT. So what is it if its not trust? They for sure trust there customers more than MS does theres. Apple dont have crooks buying cheap 300 dollar machines and just pushing them out the door with a free OS. NO TRUST!
Yea putting in a serial number is definately a deal breaker, i mean that 20 seconds it takes to do it could be used in so many amazingly productive ways.
you want to know why they don't want us to input serial numbers? Because they gain enough profit from us buying their computers. they dont NEED to get anymore money from us through their licensing system. Apple overcharge on everything. Not having serial numbers is just something sweet to give all customers and potential buyers, to make them think "Oh Apple is such an awesome company because they dont do that Serial number shit". WRONG!
why did apple use it? BECAUSE THE RECORD COMPANIES MADE THEM!!! And Steve is teh single largest share holder of Disney. Hes on teh board. Disney DVD is huge. I dont blame him for using some DRM
Because the record companies said if you want to sell our shit we want it protected. Apple scored landmark DRM rights when it introduced the iTunes Music Store back in 2003. And Jobs has publicly said that DRM is bullshit on many occasions.
The only DRM I've encountered so far is iTunes. You mention iTunes is mostly DRM free, yet all my iTunes music is still DRM. Do I need to pay more to get DRM free of the one's I already have now?
UAC: Windows 7 has UAC, default settings, it will only prompt up when you install a program and not when you change anything like it is now in Vista. It has four settings from Full setting like in Vista to having it completely off.
Yes I agree. There DRM is shit anyway, within the first day of Spore being on sale the pirates had cracked the DRM on it. DRM only hurts legal users, pirates will always crack it. You might as well just sell it DRM free because the people who pay will pay, the people who don't will crack it. And the DRM on Spore just got such bad reviews that it must have quartered EA's earning on that game. Look at Spore on amazon, it has 1 or 2 stars all because of the DRM, who is going to buy the game now?
Funny how I have never encountered anything to do with DRM and im more of a pirate then you will ever be, and User Account Control you know you can disable it from MSCONFIG>tools>Disable UAC its not hard,
Wrong by A MILE. In it's first two years of introduction, about 1.4 million DVD players were sold. In it's first two years, Blu-Ray Players sold 2.5 million copies.
Part of that 2.5 million is also including PS3 sales and computer hardware. When DVD came out, it was just DVD players, the PS2 console didnt come out until about 2-3 years after DVD players were released.
So of course blu-ray's 2 years of sales outweigh's DVDs 2 years of sales because more devices supported it initially. Plus back when DVD came out, there wasnt as huge of a demand for high definition as there is today.
"Yes but right now DVDs outsell blu ray many to one."
Well, DUH. It's obvious. You can't compare things based simply based on the raw numbers. You have to compare based on time lapses. In the first two years time lapse, Blu-Ray outsold DVD. End of argument.
"or they create a High Def standard that is DRM free."
What a fucking hypocrite. You condemn Blu-Ray for having Copy Protection, but not DVD? Videos will ALWAYS have Copy Protection. Also, Copy protection≠DRM.
Umm... all UAC does is ask you for permission for programs that try to access the computer. It does not restrict anything and you still have full control. It does not "watch" you and it doesn't even take much cpu power. I just disabled it because it's annoying and i'm not retarded. Apple is still DRM king
There is a method behind everyone's "madness". Apple is no exception. they aren't going to go all DRM free because they wants to treat their customers or anything (not that I'm saying this is why) but all they're looking at is PROFIT and sales. I'm a user of both platforms, so i'd suggest not saying you have more experience with this, because you don't,. I know what I'm talking about and will stand my ground on all arguments.
No, not at all. I also have great understanding and knowledge of Linux/Unix-based systems, but what this has to DRM music/Software is beyond the point seeing as Linux is an open-source software therefore shouldn't require serial numbers etc anyway.
As for the comment about just being a "User" - no. I'm not just a "User" of both platforms.
How can you say you appose DRM, but don't agree with people being able to copy media freely? It seems to me you are being inconsistent.

I could tell you what's wrong here, but I think I'll leave that to google.

All the new Aluminum Unibody MacBooks and MacBook Pros have HDCP. Apple has not thrown Copy Protection to the trash just yet.

Apple is lying to u as well all they want is your money and yes they act nice and give u certain things and pleasures but its still about the money

Blueray is nothing but a huge DRM player. And it's sales can't beat DVD sales.
thisithis 3 years ago
Wrong by A MILE. In it's first two years of introduction, about 1.4 million DVD players were sold. In it's first two years, Blu-Ray Players sold 2.5 million copies.
So in sales, Blu-Ray>DVD.
Atheismrulez 3 years ago
Part of that 2.5 million is also including PS3 sales and computer hardware. When DVD came out, it was just DVD players, the PS2 console didnt come out until about 2-3 years after DVD players were released.
So of course blu-ray's 2 years of sales outweigh's DVDs 2 years of sales because more devices supported it initially. Plus back when DVD came out, there wasnt as huge of a demand for high definition as there is today.

Yes but right now DVDs outsell blu ray many to one.
And I will continue to ignore blu ray until I absolutely have to use it, or they create a High Def standard that is DRM free.

Atheismrulez 3 years ago
How is that a measure of how Blu-Ray is going to sell?
ShockaSlim 3 years ago
Look at this video and tell me that Blu-ray don't have DRM. /watch?v=Y-vbtg2H1sI

Umm... all UAC does is ask you for permission for programs that try to access the computer. It does not restrict anything and you still have full control. It does not "watch" you and it doesn't even take much cpu power. I just disabled it because it's annoying and i'm not retarded. Apple is still DRM king
roxgod666 3 years ago
Apple is not the DRM kind.
Microsoft screws you over lots more :)
masterd151 3 years ago
You WOULD say that because you're being brainwashed by this hilbilly
RiuvGuitar 3 years ago
Not brainwashed....me and emeek argue about lots of things.
No, in this case I have far more experience than you do on this topic.
masterd151 3 years ago
No, you don't.
RiuvGuitar 3 years ago
User of both platforms? OS X and Windows? Thats all you have experience with?
masterd151 3 years ago
No, not at all. I also have great understanding and knowledge of Linux/Unix-based systems, but what this has to DRM music/Software is beyond the point seeing as Linux is an open-source software therefore shouldn't require serial numbers etc anyway.
As for the comment about just being a "User" - no. I'm not just a "User" of both platforms.
