I loved this song as a kid, i thought she was saying "i wanna bring you close to my alecia, it's got a baby" so innocent, my childhood forever ruined lol.

@PILINDEORO funny that you weren't the only one thinking that's what Tori was saying in this song back in the 90s. ;) I thought I was the only one; along with half of the gay community. LOOOOOOL

i know first hand what this track does to a dancefloor..i was fortunate enough to drop it everyweekend in a club 1999-2003...dancefloor dynamite...club land memories love it birmingham uk
Once I bought an LP single with this song on it. That's the one you should buy if you like this song. The sound is full then. Far better than listening to this song on CD.
I thought she was saying " I want a bring them to a toast of mine, I'll gotta bring them to a toast of mine, kiss ya...she's gotta be a gay, she's gotta be a gay -she say- (whisper here) and so on,which doesn't make any sense!! the remix is good, but lacks the essence of the original song.
This was one of the biggest club tracks of '96-'97. Dance floors would go NUTS when this came on without fail.....and when the runway queens were in the house oooooo wheeee WORK!
OH WOW!!! Classic!!! I remember the very first time I heard this in Heaven a gay club in Houston. Great remix, probably one of the classic that came out in the 90's. Awesome decade for remixes. They just don't make them like they used to. I mean I hear remixes and they suck the big. Not then, then they made them for the people not like nowadays. It's like it's all about me now. Not for us, who freaking buy the records.
Maybe Courtney Love didn't want Kurt Cobain dead...my arse she didn't, j'accuse! She hired a hitman, or more probably drove him to suicide by going on and on about the ironing...what a bitch. Some people think it would be better if Courtney was dead; not me...oh wait, yes, me.
not one of my favourite house tunes ever but you would have to have been a complete twit not to have gone mental to this at some point if you were on the scene when this came out - the bumbles were good at this time in N London which may have had an influence. Downstairs at the Cock Tavern, Highbury Corner, Bunny on the decks, tiger skin seating, Stace et al behind the bar, Fridays n Saturdays, doves n vodka Red Bull. Right, now I'm off for my afternoon nap again ...
God we used to have so much fun to this song back in 96. Im so happy to have lived all that fun, feel sorry for the young kids today. Music is just not the same as it used to be. The eightees take me back to early teen days, the ninetees to mid twenties. Anything from 2000 and on doesn't bring too many happy memories, as times are getting tough. VIVA to the good times we had.
@AJBurtonOperator now in capital letters again!! dont fight it fella. dont worry about you papa beating the shit out of you for being different. just tell him you like men. you never know, he may put out. hahaha
I sat next to Ellen at Richard Montgomery High School in Journalism class. She was a wonderful, cheerful person. She was very nice to me when I was an anonymous, diminutive Freshman. Of course, I had a silent crush on her. Who didn't? She was just a sunny, beautiful woman inside and out. I am pleased that she achieved success in life. Best of wishes Ellen. I will always have fond memories of you.
"Boys for Pele" is the name of Tori's CD that "Professional Widow" is on. Not sure what the title of the CD means? If anyone knows leave me a message on here.
@MrDrummerboy1962 There is a Hawaiian goddess named Pele who lives in a volcano. It's about feminine "fire" and boys being devoured by Pele or worshipping her.
I first heard this Armand Van Helden mix of "Professional Widow" in a gay club. I went absolutely nuts! I went up to the DJ booth and asked the DJ, "Who is this and what is this song". I got him to play it again later on and the dancefloor was packed! It has the most awesome beat. I don't think Tori actually says this, but in the song it sounds like she says, "He's got a big dick". Later on that next week I bought her CD that this song is on and the original version is totally different.
@MrDrummerboy1962 I heard it for the first time in a gay club also and done exactly the same as you and it made me go out dancing a whole lot when it first came out on the dj circuit. I had listened to Tori quite a lot before this and i know the original very well and totally loved it. I went to see her 2 years in a row at the armadillo in glasgow and shes a really amazing live artist.
I love how this remix was Tori Amos' most popular song. Because most people thought of her as a dance music artist as they never thought it was a remix to begin with.
Me and my mate were stoned the first time we heard Tori Amos' Professional Widow (the Armand Van Helden Remix one) and were convinced she was saying I'll probbably bring ya toast tonight!! I'll probably bring ya toast tonight!....its gotta be jam....its gotta be jam
Absolutely guaranteed 100% fool-proof floor-filler. I think that bass riff speaks directly to people's bodies without troubling their brains: "Go direct to the dance floor. Do not pass go. Do not collect £100. Forget your friends, your drink, your problems. Loose it, then find yourself in the music. You are one with all these other fools—they love you, that is why they are here. Shirts off, hands in the air, you'll never come down off this trip."
@mrcake2525 OMFG brilliant comment! A simple thumbs off will not suffice. You made me smile and laugh, but also made me sad that my partying days are over... the best of them anyway :-(
If we had ever met at a club we would have talked for hours, exchanged numbers, sworn to catch up, and then never heard from each other again! LoL. The greatest people i ever met were the ones ill never remember... ;-)

@Andyontherocks I am a 36 year old woman now, but I too can remember as a 17 y/o coming out as a gay man. Only it was to Charly by the Prodigy. LOL. Really though I don't know you but I am proud of you anyway!
Back in the 90s, when this remix came out, I thought she was saying "Saturday, babe! Saturday, babe! Saturday, babe!" LOL (Of course i found out the actual lyrics much later...)
@gazz12345a Oh dammit, I quit checking this e-mail before I got to slaughter you first. umm... dumbass... A WHOLE lot of music happened before you were brainwashed into listening to your favorite shit. Professional herp?
@gazz12345a "I couldn't have made it any more obvious that I was taking the piss. Get yourself tested for autism dude." Oh, I get it now. My autism prevents me from reading between the lines. You were just taking the piss. It came off so differently than the 12-year-old assclowns on YT who think that popular music began with Kanye Douche. Did you c/p your reply to julieann1978 and BooMeRLiNSKi? 'Cause they must be autistic, too.
@gazz12345a This track is from 1996, Lady Gaga was a child then. this is not the original version of the song, it's a remix by Armand Van Helden. The biggest musical influence on Tori Amos is a British artist called Kate Bush.
Backroom in Manumission about '94 (painted like a cowhide that year. I went every year between 92-02 and cant remember exactly) someone dropped it and I didn't have a fucking clue who the track was by but fuck me the whole place THROBBED!

@fonnyjonny Kte Bush was a genius, started at 17, picked out of the crowd by Peter Gabriel. No wonder she was influence to many people.
LMB222 11 months ago
@fonnyjonny Actually she's not. Her biggest influence is Led Zeppelin. She hadn't even heard of Kate Bush until the mid-80s.
