if you do on kaspersky's site, they tell you everything, they compared with all major anti-virus, noton, Macfee, Nod32, and kaspersky.. update wise.. i would say kaspersky has the most, i have had kaspersky less then 1 month and it had already has 150,849 updates :) and it has the highest detection rate for 2007, most secure software, and only uses 6% of your computers useage. ask questions, send them to my other acc... avast anti viruse is the #1 for me , it warns about unwanted connections and ask you if you want to abort the unwanted connections that try to connect to you  and will remove delete or move to the vault on your command.( AVG does not) anti spyware BY FAR SpybotS&D is untochable by any other with no cost full version immunizing and scan and renmoval. currently these two programs avast and spybot run on all my machines. I also have Highjack this on stand by incase .

There's an Msn Virus being sent out that installs to yr Messenger not your hard drive and mas sends links out to people on your list repeatedly to the virus.

Trouble is if you get infected with it, its yr msn account that is infected not your pc.

Quick solve open a new account and warn every one on your old account.

It's more of an annoyance than anything else. it just takes your password and signs in randomly on its own repeatedly sending links out to others on its contact list.

yer, as chris said, ask your friend if they sent you it, ask them what it is, make sure its a safe format e.g, MP3, WMV, JPEG, GIF, ususally EXE progrmas are a bit suspicious on messenger if they didnt mean to send it toy you, if you still unsure, SCAN YOUR FILE BEFORE YOU OPEN IT!!!!!!

your a tech, thats a laugh, you dont only get a virus for IM's, you get them from web pages without having to save a exe or pif file to your pc, some can just upload to your Temporary Internet Files, and the page can execute it without you knowing.. Plus depends by what OS you have and Explorer to protect you from being launched.

Try using NOD32 or Avast!. They're pretty good free antivirus solutions.

Don't waste a dime on McAfee... It will go through your hard drive and randomly destroy or corrupt all of the non-infected files, slow down your system, and.... gah. HATE McAfee. The only good product they have is SiteAdvisor, which tells you if a site is known to have malware on it or will send you spam if you give it your email.

I use Avast because its the only free one that supports Windows XP 64bits (AVG and Antivir don't) and I have a router with a hardware firewall.

For spyware I use hitman pro, its a Dutch program that takes over mouse and keyboard to download/update and install/run various spyware-tools like ad-aware, Spybot S&D, Pctools and what not. At the end if gives a report on which program found which malware and you'd be surprised how much the last program that ran found...
