Absolutely loved this game. We actually used to have a specified night at a local LAN center where we'd get like 20-30 people LAN and play against each other. best thing ever.

I've been playing this game ever since it came out in 2004 and I still do as of November 2011... man this game is amazing!! It had a lot of things even Battlefield 3 doesn't have.. such as warships, controllable aircraft carriers, mobile Howitzers, MLRS, SCUD launchers, bomber jets had awesome bombing power and A-10 had cluster bombs, tomcat 2-seat jet, gunships, drivable civillian vehicles and overall both Iraq and USA had a much wider variety of vehicles. Best damn game EVER !!!

God I loved this game. Got it around the time Battlefield: Vietnam came out and my friends and I were too poor to afford something like that so quickly. When we found this mod, though, our jaws dropped. It was like BF Vietnam, but better! and it was a FREE MOD. I dont think we stopped until Battlefield 2 eventually rocked our collective socks off.

PS. Before you count me out, old 2D games look as good to me as the first day. This graphics quality detoriations seems to particularly affects later 3D games. Of course it's very good "everyone wins" scenario: Optimized game runs faster, more people can play at ok FPS, people want to buy next game (Battlefield 2) since it looks better than than the old that has somehow ended up looking worse. Atleast I still have all the old original driver releases and game versions but do they work in Win7...

4:20 looks quite good - I remember BF1942 looking p-good when released but years later on my newer computer it looked like not nearly so good as in old screenshots I find on the net. I'm not feeling like putting the effort to prove it but my feeling is that there's been some "optimization". I recall World in Conflict looking p-nice during beta but later it looked just as bad as BF1942. Weird stuff. I read latest drivers running games faster than before. Magic?

This theme is really a grand epic tribute to modern warfare in middle-east.  It does sound like the unscrouplous dirty mechanized warfare of the largest expaneses of deserts. I imagine treacherous ambushes, and intensive long distance combat with this theme.

@jpongin A lot of people did. I loved the early stages of the mod with the gunship. Although they made the choppers flyable towards the end of the mod which was nice. Jumping in a chopper and flipping upside down instantly wasn't so cool.

i remeber playing this game in the computer lab were they charged 1 dollar for 3 and a half hours of play. I remeber playing this and E.S.F desert combat but the soundtrack was slightly different and there was a picture of a humvee at the loding screen.
