This is so true... MA mandates are driving private insurance premiums up and deductables up. We struggle to afford our premiums and cannot afford higher deductables or out of pocket expenses..so we pay thouands of dollars for mandated insurance only to avoid going to the doctor because we cant afford it....Small business in MA is on the brink of falling onto some form state welfare HC plan...which has bankrupted the state...and continues to drive the civil society down hill fast.

1) owing a car is an option - 2) the insurance required is a) (liability) to protect others and b) (collision) required by your lender to protect them.

@hawkonmw There are always tradeoffs. Through the govt. run Medicare system, the U.S. spends a LOT more on healthcare for the elderly than in Europe. Making the U.S. system more like Europe would necessarily involve pulling the plug on grandma.
The U.S. is running HUGE deficits even with the scheduled expiration of tax cuts etc... If the government is going to spend more on something, it will have to spend less on something else.

My understanding is that they couldn't do deem and pass because that piece of legislation was amendments to the HCR bill but they can only amend what's already law. Obama would had to have signed the HCR bill before they could pass amendments. The carriage before the horse type thing.

@doradodante Actually if you have the money, you don't need car insurance...that's accurate. You can self insure, it's a right everyone has in every state. Check it out with your DOL or DMV. Post a bond with the state is a right. Same with health care, if you have another option, you should not have to make their choice.

The bill is not perfect, but why is the US the only industrialized nation w/o universal health care? Interesting historical note: When the Social Security and Medicare bills were passed, there were similar "America's economy will be destroyed" and the "US will end up Socialist" fears. I feel so lucky to have found such a wonderful explanation from someone who cannot spell the word 'explanation' correctly. Truth be known, all bills are passed with controversial attachments and the bigger the bill, the more pork barrel legislation that it will contain. My other objection to this video is that while it claims that the government is taking away Medicare and your health insurance, it adduces no evidence to back this up. Remember, the burden of proof rests with the claimant.

This is so true... MA mandates are driving private insurance premiums up and deductables up. We struggle to afford our premiums and cannot afford higher deductables or out of pocket expenses..so we pay thouands of dollars for mandated insurance only to avoid going to the doctor because we cant afford it....Small business in MA is on the brink of falling onto some form state welfare HC plan...which has bankrupted the state...and continues to drive the civil society down hill fast.

1) owing a car is an option - 2) the insurance required is a) (liability) to protect others and b) (collision) required by your lender to protect them.
and most importantly - it is a State issue, not a Federal issue - BTW not all States require Liability insurance.
next - if you look at the auto insurance as an equal, then you would agree that the cross state lines purchase would decrease the ins cost

this bill doesnt go fae enough, doesnt have a single payer or some public option to curb costs..there are several great things that start right away ..regulations of insurance co. like being kicked off or dropped due to being sick or being denied due to pre=exsisting conditions. and kids able to get under their parents plan untill they are 26..these are only few of many great things that are in the bill. but like i said doesnt go far enough

@hawkonmw There are always tradeoffs. Through the govt. run Medicare system, the U.S. spends a LOT more on healthcare for the elderly than in Europe. Making the U.S. system more like Europe would necessarily involve pulling the plug on grandma.
The U.S. is running HUGE deficits even with the scheduled expiration of tax cuts etc... If the government is going to spend more on something, it will have to spend less on something else.

2. Government takeover of healthcare? Yeah right, this bill doesn't even come a lightyear within such a thing. No public option, no medicare (government-run gasp?!) buy-in. All we got was a mandate, some subsidies and some rules against denying people with pre-existing conditions (with lots of loopholes attached).

My understanding is that they couldn't do deem and pass because that piece of legislation was amendments to the HCR bill but they can only amend what's already law. Obama would had to have signed the HCR bill before they could pass amendments. The carriage before the horse type thing.
That's why they had to do a separate up or down vote on HCR.
