  • Fantastic vid. Groove3 quality. Very complex, very well handled. You got a lot into your ten minutes. Takes a bit of work on our part with the pause button and review. But well worth it. Makes a change from being spoon fed. Thanks a zill for your time and for the upload. Looking forward to part two. Thumbs up and subscribed.

  • @SetantaCovenant Thanks Reaktor is the software I can't get rid of. :)

  • ..that girls joint sounds sonically nice..in my non rapper voice

  • yo dog great vid, i fealt like you held a 9mm to reaktors dome and blew its brains out across the desk.. (that was cause i thought your talk with lgw 1984 was too funny) seriously though great vid, up until now i had been using default sounds (wich i cant lie sound amazing) but had really wanted to know how to make my own. First attempt was a shot in the dark and surprise, surprise i hit NOTHING. thanks to you i now know what im doing (to an extent). You sir are a scholar and a gentlemen.

  • Why all rappers introduce their videos like this?

"Hey, this is big dollar dog gangsta pistol loc crime money shadow beat productions"

  • @Lgw1984 1st I am not a rapper. 2nd people like you try to put me in a box but, its impossible. I do a wide range of music not just hip hop, I understand why you said that. You have no clue about me nor hip hop.(Notice I say hip hop & not rap) I introduce myself like how I introduce myself. Yes I am going to introduce myself and the business I created. The same way if you did not know who Bill Gates is(U should) he would say Bill Gates of Microsoft. Thanks for commenting.

  • @maltcus

Yes, he says "Bill Gates of Microsoft", but now imagine him in the Windows 8 presentation saying:

Hey yo, this is B. Dog Gates from fuckin' Seattle. Buy Windows 8, bitches.

  • @Lgw1984 I did and do not talk like that. Being that some rap music have the word dog, fuckin and bitches it is appropriate to say that in a introduction. Bottom line y0ou trying to be funny and you know nothing of what you are talking about.

  • @Lgw1984 2011, yet we still got ignorant fucks. People don't have to live down to your expectations. We all walk different paths in life to get where we at. We all grew up in different areas. Country people talk the way they talk because thats the environment they are in. Same goes for Texans, Californians, New Yorkers, people around Boston, where ever. Different walks of life has different results. And why would this be an issue about how he introduce himself? Ignorance.

  • awesome =]

  • nice video thankyou

  • Great video! Thx

  • Great tutorial! Thx for this -

  • Great vid man! Super helpful ;-)

  • i did everything you did exactly and when i hit my keys i get this buzzing sounding tone and its the same pitch on every key. it sounds nothing like yours. help?

  • you moving tooooooo fuckin fast, shit gave me a headace

  • @RachetBeatz sorry if u feel like I am moving too fast. I was trying to fit in a 10 min. video because at the time 10 mins was my limit on youtube. Some say I am too fast some say I am too slow. Some say its to simple some say its too advance. I will try to be slower if I ever do another reaktor video

  • Put your crackpipe down and pay attention.

You came to youtube to learn how to build a synth in Reaktor. You found a great tutorial that someone took the time to put together to help you learn. Now you're crying it's too fast. Here's an idea for you if you're having trouble following along. When the video plays, there are buttons that you can push to pause, play, restart, etc... Use those buttons. Play this more than once. There's a lot of information to take in.

  • Wow im surprised a person like you knows this (yes i went there)

  • @DJPaggos thumbs up its okay for u to feel that way. hand over your woman for a night and she could tell you a lot more.

  • @maltcus Greatest...comeback...ever :) you're epic. Seriously though, i learned something from this tut ;)

  • Can you make a song like Interlude by Attack Attack! with this program? And if you can't what program can I use?

  • @Jasonater94 Reaktor is a software that allows you to make a instrument, effects ot a control software. Can you make a instrument that can make though sounds. YES do reaktor come with instruments out the box that can make those sounds YES. There are plenty of other VSTs that can make these sounds. TO me its a matter of knowing how to play. Skills 1st sound 2nd

  • @maltcus depends on what style of music you make. These days you don't need to know how to play.. you just need to have the patience to program. The thing that seperates okay music from great music, is great music uses great sounds. You can be the best player in the world, but if your sounds don't sound good then neither will your music

  • @Adeptmind sound quality is important but, skills is what is going to get you far. U can have the best sound but with no skills then its still won't sound that good. So why when we have all of these tools music still don't sound is good as the past? cause of spending so much time in sound when u should be spending time in music theory, practicing and trying new melodies etc... as far as u being surprise of me knowing what I do know show u do not know jack about me

  • @maltcus Hey, maybe you should read the comments more closely before being a D-bag because I wasn't the one who said anything about being suprised. But thanks for showing me your low level mindedness. You think song writing comes before quality sound? (lol) Go listen to some GM (general midi) versions of any of your favorite songs and then tell me that sound quality doesn't matter. The radio is filled with crappy songwriting and horrible singers.. but, they have COOL SOUNDS and PRISTINE QUALITY

  • @Adeptmind oh my bad u r right about the comment about being surprised. Like I said before sound quality is important but, there are a lot music that the quality is not great and is still good music. 12 bit recording in todays standard is bad quality but, a good produce paired with a great singer could make hits all day in 12 bit.

  • @maltcus That is what people "think". People don't even know why they like the music they do. Most people listen to a "style" of music that is their favorite. And it's generally not geared towards the song writing, but the actual sounds and quality. Some people like lo-fi music.. but the majority do not. I work in the industry.. and make music for film music librarys. If you record something in 16 bit, it will never even make it to mixing. Quality sells, song writing is 2nd. 12 bit .... never

  • @Adeptmind its a shame for some people u r right. I still stand that skills is the key. "Good quality" what is it. Everyone hear differently. What is good quality to me maybe bad quality to u. Some people say software sounds thin no mater which vst u use and then some say it just as good. Sound quality is subjective skills is the what is going to make the difference. Scoring movies the sound quality is more important then skills but, then again so much so. 4 myself more about improving my skill

  • @maltcus That is your opinion. Go check out record sales data and you will see a direct correlation in production quality.. this is not my opinion.. just a fact. VST's are definitely "colder" sounding than analog. But to really understand, takes some ear training and experience. I know some people who write GREAT songs, but they wouldn't be able to sell (and don't) until someone who is good at sound sculpting makes them sound better. I know horrible songs that sell just because of quality sounds

  • @Jasonater94 You could always use your anus if you want to make songs by Attack Attack[exclamation point]

  • @BryterJonas lol you funny as hell

  • Please create a tutorial on how to build stacked panels. I'm having a hard time figuring this out.

  • @vstman hey sorry for the late response. i have not used Reaktor for a while now. I leave my reaktor videos up because someone may be able to use the info. I don't even have it on my computer anymore. If you make it worth my effect I could install it and show you a lot

  • How to add something simple like a distortion in this synth? I'm really doing the wiring wrong xD

  • @MysticTempest666 you just want to ad a distortion effect? Do you know how to add effect ins??

  • @maltcus Yeah just a distortion to this simple synth, can't seem to wire it right.

and no I don't know how to add effect ins :S haha

  • @MysticTempest666 okay open the ENS. right click and search thru ins and u will see effects. then you will see distortion. click on it then you will see the module. connect the output of the synth to the input of the distortion module. then connect the output of the distortion to the input of the audio output.

  • Been using reaktor's stock instruments for 5 years and this is the first time I think I can try to build something from scratch. Nice job!

  • man, thats so fucking confusing, but If i wanna make beats and music for a living one day, I suppose I better start learning.

  • @josephfoltz reaktor is not a easy program and you don't need it to make music. Gives you a chance to make your on instruments and effects without knowing C++ programming.

  • Nice work Maltcus! I made my first synth.... Love it

  • great program but i dont get it... you have to mod your way 5 hours to create a simple saw synth, meanwhile in ni massive "wave","saw1" thats 2 clicks... maybe its just me

  • @Fawkes002 See reaktor is for the person who wants to create there own instruments and/or effect. To create a simple synth would not take me long at all. Not hours. Now u mention massive. I could create something similar to massive and add my own twist to it.

  • @Fawkes002 The thing about reaktor you can make changes to your synths that you could never do with lets say massive. If you are not a computer geek and let to cteate your own. No reaktor is not for you but, then again it can be. There are hundreds of synths, effects, seq that was created in reaktor. If u have not give it a try.

  • @maltcus thanks for the reply, i will sure try to learn it only cuz it looks bad ass :D

  • Brilliant video, so helpfull, thanks :)

  • Oh My God..!?

  • Thanks for the video! What I just can't understand though is how to get a sound from all those Macros that have, for example, "Wm" on "Multi Osc" where the Gate should be! What do all the strange abbreviations mean?!

  • Thanks for the video! What I just can't understand though is how to wire up all the Macros that don't have a Gate input and instead have "Wm" on "Multi Osc" for example. What do these input abbreviations mean?! I can never get a sound from them!

  • This program intimidates me to say the least.

  • @Nvelopmusic

Reaktor looks like fruityloops compared to Max/MSP

  • @urmumsbaps lol do u really believe that?

  • Good approach, I wouldn't have known where to start without this video.

    Thanks a bunch, serious.

  • I agree, I've been reading the manual for a few days now and it's done absolutely nothing for me.

    Thanks heaps!

  • @newmanafterall the manual is CRAP

  • Great video, thanks a bunch man.

  • yw man

  • That looks hard.

  • nonsense, just trail and error

  • If you are using Windows Vista and can't get Reaktor to make sound, try this:

    -Control Panel

-Hardware and Sound (make sure you're not in classic view)

    -Click Sound

-Select the Recording Tab at the top

-RIGHT click on some open white space and select "show disabled devices"

-A new icon should appear called "Stereo Mix"

-Right click Stereo Mix and select "Enable"

I couldn't get a sound out of Reaktor until I did this. I'm not sure if it works with Windows XP, but you can try.

  • i didnt help i still get not sound ;[

  • I look at the examples and theyre so complicated....is it worth the effort? (It's sorta like writing your own software)

  • the big benifet to this is you can custom build. ever said. man if this synth had ----- it would be nice. u dont just wish. u build it. if u could only see what i am workin on. and u will when i a finished

  • good job !!!!!!!!

  • I followed these steps, but no sound is produced. The "Midi In" lights blinks when I press a key, but no audio. Any reason why? I played around in the Midi and Audio settings under system, but no dice.

  • are you using reaktor as a plug in or stand alone?

  • Stand alone.

  • fantastic

  • Perfect tutorial - thanks a lot !

  • do you have to do all this shit every single time you want to make a synth? Coming from a noobs perspective, this program seems like a total pain in the ass...

  • you can save your synths

plus you can keep building onto your synth.

if you practice enough you can make something that would cost you around 100-200 quid

  • it is :D and a ton of fun

  • Thank you for the help, you are the MAN

it is almost like a combination of electronics and visual basic

My fear is.. By time I learn everything it will be obsolete. Like my hardware synth. I still use a Ensoniq VFX, but I love it.

    PS. I subscribed

  • Thanks for making this video! I learned finally how to make an ensemble. Is this the same for Grooveboxes?

  • well its a little different ofcourse but, yea close. I might have to do a video on it

  • I lie tweaking sounds when I use virtual instruments and Im pretty sure Reaktor will let me take to a whole other level, this looks like it will help me more once I understand a little more, but I think people like me who are total noobies with Reaktor needs someone to do a video explaining the very basic functions and fundamentals of the program.

  • im working on it. i did do a video kinda like what u are saying called how to use reaktor 5 dvd part 1

  • you can do the same things with ableton live in a more easier way than reaktor

  • ableton live is a at program. Yes reaktor is a program that can be hard to program. However you can do so much with it. There are other programs out they that can do some of the thing reaktor can but, reaktor as far as making your own synth blows anything else out the water and challenge anyone on that.

  • Yes - absolutely true - I think people don't even understand what they could do with reaktor - You even can reacreate an Oberheim XPANDER which of course takes a little longer..... :-)

  • You told us: "reaktor as far as making your own synth blows anything else out the water and challenge anyone on that"

Yes - absolutely true - I think people don't even understand what they could do with reaktor - You even could recreate an Oberheim XPANDER which of course takes a little longer.....

    :-)

  • debatable, max/msp, just writing it in c/c+/cocoa and synth maker all have alot to offer

  • well i will agree as far a c/c+ but, you can't compare reaktor 5 and coding. The point of reaktor is that fact u don't need to know code. Reaktor is better the synth maker hands down. Hell if I know coding what do I need synth maker for?

  • ? all of these programs are visual coding enviroments ....they are coding!

  • u said c+. and i don't think a programmer would call this coding.

  • strange i am a programmer :P

  • @maltcus Better to call it programming. The IDE is doing the coding.

Even that is a bit confusing because "synth programming" usually refers to the process of getting the synth to sound the way you want it...not actually making the synth architecture.

Perhaps 'synth architecture' is a better phrase.

  • @marcotenshi i agree it is programming. Just like when you have a regular synth and you create sounds you are programming the synth but, I guess when I think of programming. I think of C++ or Java for an example. Its all good

  • @maltcus correct, it IS referred to as programming though :) (synthesis)

  • i wish i could say that this was a big help, but its still a bit over my head. it seems like the tutorial was not made for people who have at least SOME experience with reaktor. i just got it today and i know nothing about it. ill play with it and come back and watch this again, im sure this tutorial will help more at that point. i rated 5/5 :)

  • can you record at a higher volume?

  • Thank you very much for this tutorial. It helped a lot! Fantastic.

  • That was very helpful, thanks to you! I subscribed!!!

  • hey mate, really appreciate that you've taken the time to put these tutes together, it's an admirable thing. thanks :)

  • I've been trying to get into Reaktor, I know my part about synth building but just showing how to do it in this program made a world of difference for me, thank you very much!

  • your welcome theres more to come

  • Wow, thanks so much, do you have a video for hooking up audio from a mic or guitar or something like that??

This was more helpful than anything NI gave us

  • i haven't made video on hooking to be used as a effect processor but, its amazin used like that. I will in the near feature.

  • you are a life saver! thanks so much for your videos !!

  • it seems very similar to Simulink...isn't?

  • well first i didnt know what simulink was. however i did some research and no its not. simulink is a software u can use to program lets say hardware robots. reaktor 5 is main just a software that does everything in the box however i do believe u can use reaktor to control hardware synths. I haven't explored that yet but, i believe it can be done

  • i didnt think you could use it to control hardwear max/msp mabey but not reactor any way cheers for the vid helped out lots :)

  • thank u. Keep going.

  • Thanks for showing kinda the basics of Reaktor. I remember putting the prog on my old computer and checking YT for some tutorials, but at that time there were none :P

This gives me even more spark to get down with reaktor, thanks very much man :)

  • i know what you mean. been using reaktor since version 3 and yes had a hard time! I am uploading a new video today. Im glad I can help someone cause this program needs videos like this

  • thanks keep them coming

  • your welcome imma doing another one tomorrow. i keep u updated or subscribe

  • thanks for this ive been reading the manual , your videos help out alot keep them coming

  • Thanks!

  • welcome. i will be posting more.
