  • An MRI scan generally takes 20 to 30 minutes to complete, but, some scans may last for an hour, depending on the area being scanned and how many images are taken. It can take several minutes for each image to be taken, so it's important to lie very still and breathe gently. The patient may be asked to hold his breath at certain times during the scan. The radiographer will manoeuvre the scanner from behind a window and will be able to see and hear the patient during the scan.
