I had been always reading popular science books. Already as a child I had been looking at the pictures in encyclopedias for kids and I was fascinated by space shuttles, black holes, the big bang and so on. However, Feynman's books are totally different to everything I had read before. They taught me to appreciate the beauty in the simple things. Now I don't need anymore to engage with Black Holes or the String Theory in order to have fun in physics.
nice! i want to read that book, ima check it out tomorow. im crurrently reading one of feynman's books. and i would like to study astrophysics, or physics. its the underlying science of the physical universe. definitely cosmology of somesort. i cant wait to transer!!!
im tryin to polish up my mathematical skills for the exact reason he stated, to understand our physical world, nature, our universe. only thing that interests me, ima be a science major
@pastyfacial It would be better for all if our teachers, better yet the philosophy behind education in our country, would be more like Feynman's father's philosophy than thinking teaching is cramming information into unprepared minds so that they can make a good score on a meaningless test. (I was lucky to have had a father who thought like Feynman's father and also WAS a physicist :-))
Gluons are the carriers of the strong force, just like a photon is the carrier of the electromagnetic force.
The gluons havent been directly observed because they are virtual bozons, Einstein's energy - mass equation does not apply on them. They only excist for a short period of time according to Heisenberg's uncertainty principle DE * Dt = h.
Also neither of the 6 quarks has been directly isolated and observed. What we know about all this particles comes from indirect measurements.
This should be MANDATORY viewing. Every person needs to see what a man should be/strive to be..

@w1n6ed83a5t No, it should not be mandatory, even though he was a smart man dont give anyone the rights to force ohter people to watch this.

a really humbling experience...wow..i want to go back in time just to attend his lecture in real.

The one "dislike" was so dumb he thought Feynman was speaking in a language other than English.

I heard he shaved his balls to look like two protons.

do you realize that the barrier is now expanding with the large hadron collider?
that is what feyman meant my huge amounts of force. the collider will finally test the hypothesis quatitatively if the theories are correct or not!

yeah, just riffin on math.got inspired.

That last part, at about nine minutes, reminds me of Einstein. He set his life up so that nothing ever even competed with doing physics.

Is it because you think it's too late to make your son have such a father?

Feynman didn't have a father like himself, still he became what he did. What would u do with a father like him. You'd still be the same.

there are 6 quarks:
up, down, strange, cute, bottom, top.
A proton is composed by 3 quarks (2 up quarks and 1 down quark). A netron by 2 down quarks and 1 up. Quarks are held together by gluons
konstantiss 3 years ago
"Quarks are held together by gluons" via the strong nuclear force correct? Also, have these actually been observed? Or are they just speculation...
