i go hog hunting (and deer hunting) with this gun and mostly hogs are retarded and dont run away so i can get really close to them. can you still see through the iron sights when you take the scope off cause the mount looks like it gets in the way. this is important!!!
The iron sights with the scope mounted are way inferior to the PU system as you are looking through a tunnel.
I haven't looked through with out the scope on.
Would recommend PU for close hunting personally due to thicker recital and better iron sights even with scope mounted for a slightly smaller sight picture.
What is that song ? Gr8 song for a M/N video !!! XD I think its n the soundtrack of Ennemys at the gates... Realy nice ifle dude, how does it shoot ? I'm sure it shoot well its a 1938...
Hi man, very nice mosin, a question for you, does this mosin model can be attached with a left mounted PE ?, if so, which one you prefer more, central mounted or side?
@bobiscool308 The PU mount typically attaches to the side of the weapon, although there are examples of PE/PEM mounts that can be side mounted, as well, though they are usually top mounted optics. The PU scope was typically, IIRC, a fixed, 3.5X magnification optic, whereas the PE was usually a 4X magnification.
@alfireman81 no offense but learn facts before you spout them on the internet. All mosin's with scopes had their bolts turned down, no matter where they were from, as it was physically impossible to cycle it with a scope on if it was left straight. This IS a mosin nagant.
@alfireman81 yea you will find that all scoped mosin nagants other than long eye relief scopes have turned down bolts. back in ww2 these rifles were used by soldiers and snipers alike, it is russian and was used by korea and finland, reason being that the scope gets hit by an upturned bolt.
Very nice rifle. I just discovered that the scope my dad brought back from WWII was used on the sniper rifle. It looks like yours but does not have that adjustment ring on the back. It will be going on my Mosin Nagant for sure. I am trying to identify the model of the scope.
@Cloakedsphere nope if you are putting a scope on this gun you almost have too the bolt has a weird design to it which will make it hit the scope if you dont bend it . if you have two bolt action rifles put them side by side kind of interesting how they made some of older stuff
@whiteguy2369 I Know you need to bend it down. That part is pretty obvious if you have seen a mosin nagant before. Im Just saying he bent it so low that its right next to the stock. He could have just bent it to where it just didnt hit the scope.
For those who asked, the PE mount was designed to mount a scope on to the hex reciever of the earlier mosin nagant. If you have seen Enemy at the gates, youve seen a PU mount that was designed to speed up wartime production.
I got a pe scope mount.... Do you know if you are supposed to drill all the way through the receiver? The screws don't look that long, and I'm no gunsmith. Thanks if you respond!!
Only drill to the depth of the screws. If you are not a gunsmith take it to one. I have a PE and a PU mosin. And the screw placement and depth on the PE are very important.
Hey great rifle, and scope for that matter, i am gonna mount some kind of scope on my mosin, do you like the PE scope. and can you still use your iron sites under the scope, or is it blocked? where did you get the scope and how much was it?
so i'm getting a PE scope for my mosin and i'm wondering if when you are mounting it, do you have to cut some of the stock to make room for the bracket, or does it screw on nicely to the reciever?
hey man, i wanna know where you got the pe mount and scope. and if you have a full turned down bolt assembly or did you have to cut and weld. I want a fully assembled one.
PE/M was an older design, the PU scope were meant for the SVT. But the SVT proved to be unsatisfactory. So they used the new PU scopes on new Mosin snipers. The PE/M were of higher quality and 4x scope. While the PU were made cheaply (only when compared to the PE, they were still very nice for the time), and were 3.5 power.
The PE snipers were pretty heavy,I think the PU sniper was more soldier friendly,Also it was the early (1942) Aluminum PU scopes that were junk-they got broken very easy in the field, but the late 1942 and after PU scopes were good quality
Yes they are, I just got back from shooting at my farm at 750 meters and was able to place 2 shots one after the other on a 18" steel disc after i got sighted in but i ran out of ammo. will try again and video this time.
Where can you buy one of these scopes?? And how hard is it to mount them? I have a 1936 tula, with CN above the Red Star...But i don't think it was a sniper... Any ideas?
I have been thinking of mounting a scope on my mosin, but It would be a modern 3-9x40 at least. but i wouldn't want to damage my receiver. Mine is a rifle that was never issued. 1928 Tula, the barrel shines like a mirror. Its the most beautiful mosin I have ever seen..
@Matt6644 how deep do the "blind holes" need to be on the reciever?
DEOXYS987 3 months ago
@DEOXYS987
I Honestly couldn't tell you as i got a gun smith to install it for me.
Think they only need to be sufficiently long enough to allow the full length of the supplied screws to wind in fully.
Make sure not to drill right through though.
Matt6644 3 months ago
@Matt6644 i wont drill through, i have a buddy of mine thats gonna drill and tap, as he has lots of experience

@BoggleDongMongerFlog yeah, but its cool to keep the rifles history by putting an original scope on it.

@LooksLegitBro first off, you can put any scope on a jmeck scope mount, and this mount in the video looks nothing like an original PE scope MOUNT

Original?
The PU?
The PE or PEM is the original.
PU was made for the demand of a mass produced sniper.
The PE and PEM were just too expensive and complicated to make them on a massive scale.
