He I'm trying the smoke simulator and I am using a scene I created with grass and a sky I can see the smoke in the viewport but when I go to render it does not appear in the final animation. What could I be doing wrong
@Vvgirl98513 LOL, if you're asking this question, then you probaby shouldnt be watching this tutorial quite yet. I suggest watching some tutorials on the basics first since you dont know how to do the easiest tasks like selecting an object. hahaha.
there must be something wrong with my blender, when i simulate, i have to move my plane around for it to emit any smoke, and when i render it, it crashes, any help? I know i do not have python up and working, could that be the problem?
my particle system says SmokeParticles.. I followed all instructions but when I alt-A there is no smoke that will appear.. What is the problem with my work?
i managed to get this work about a week ago and im trying to redo it but with a green background and the camera in a different postion. the smoke will no longer appear in the render :( please help
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have followed so many tutorials and they wouldn't work when I rendered them. One question thought. Do you know how I can make the object that the smoke is emitting from be invisible? I'm in 2.53 btw.
great tutorial, even without a voice it works much better than any other tutorial i have seen so far. I have one question, i want my smoke to be thin and go low over the ground, like you see a lot in those war movies, more alike fog/warsmoke, to create the illusion that you're in a warscene, i'd apreciate it if you could help me out ;)
Is there a way to make the smoke react to outside forces, such as wind? I am currently making a short animation involving a steam ship and was wondering how to realistically make the smoke from the smokestacks appear real and react to wind. Great video though
The first time it worked perfectly but once I watched the 250 frame animation once (with ALT-A) when it went back to one the last animation was still going, and so on. They just over lapped eachother.
very inovative way of creating tutorials, i like this one very much,(relaxing music, and readable hints).. and the effect is comparable with fumeFX.. but if we have in mind that blender is open source... hmmm :D vote goes to blender no dubt!!
for the people who can't get the smoke to render it is because your domain is to small. I had the same problem and went over the video like three times to make sure I got everything until I figured it out.
Tried it with Alpha 2, worked perfectly! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
BTW: You can disable the rendering for the plane inside the particle-system emiter-tab. Disable the emitter rendering there.
If the simulation seems to produce only one particle you can try to change the divisions at the smoke tab (domain) to reset the simulation. Worked fine here. :)
now THAT is how to do a tutorial. none of the scratchy microphone recording and self-promotion I commonly see in other tutorials. Well done! thanks a lot
Worked for me, thanks. Except you labeled "Physics" as "Particles" about :50 in or so, might want to change the label to match what you're doing there.
increase the hd resolution to about 4-5 and divisions higher...it makes it look like ciggareate smoke. you can also make the particles smaller and increase the rapid elevation of smoke.
how do i get it to work for rendering you say to bake it but i dont know how it seems to be fine up to wanting to render then no smoke in the video.could you tell me what i am doing wrong or what i need to do in bake
double check the video again and make sure that all of the materials and settings are exactly as i showed you...cuz if the smoke appears in your edit screen then there is nothing wrong with the bake only your settings. Also make sure you free the bake evry time you edit and want to rebake cuz it wont work.
is it possible to show how to do bake?i cannot get a smoke video not sure if the rendering is right no smoke in the video but it is in the animtion before i try to render
I think I am hitting a performance bug on this. What are your render times for the final animation? I am running on a 2x Quad-Core (8 Cores total) system and this is crawling!
about 3.5 seconds per frame in the final render, ...
with 250 frames total it takes 12.5 minutes
however,... it takes more time to simulate the smoke., with 4 divisions, 250 frames of animation takes about 10-15 minutes....thats even before rendering.
After going through the tutorial a good 5 times I got the simluation to work. So I tried to render it and all I got was the grey "world" and the plane, no smoke AT ALL. Are ther any application conflicts with alpha0? Becuase I followed your tutorial to the letter.
can't get it to render :( tried changing world colors and watched this video 10 times to see if I missed something. am on windows 7 using Blender 2.5 alpha 0
thanks! I went back and redid everything and realized that when I made my material the texture slots was already there, so I figured I try deleting it and adding new texture instead, I think this might be a bug. Or just a portion of GUI that needs to be redone.
Please Help! I followed your tutorial just fine until 2:38 when you said to simulate the scene. I selected (Option/Alt + A) but I didn't see the smoke like your video shows. What render settings do I need to select to see the smoke? Are you in "Object" mode etc?
yes..go to the video sequence editor...and click where it says [add]...then select [scene] place it anywhere....then click [add] again and in the top of the selections click on "effects strips" and add [glow]. then refresh sequencer. your scene should be below glow effects.
High resolution crashes my system every time. No exceptions. mac os x 10.6.2 2Gb ram Intel Duo Core, only 6 months old.
Other things I learned, don't scale your domain along any axis by itself. Always keep it square or it will freak out. 6 hrs playing with this thing and one little puff of smoke.
it seems blender requires more than dual core to be effecient for this simulation..i didnt know that. i had no problems since im working with a 2.8 ghz core2Quad and 4 gb ram. only if i increase it to any higher than 8 it will crash every time, but ive noticed it does little change in visual..so whats the point, i always keep it at 4-5. it sucks now that we have to upgrade
nice tutorial, but it doesnt render in the rendering window, its on the screen, (in the world) but doesnt render!

Do one where the smoke is being swept by an angle, like by the wind, or try an isocahedric domain, that would be cool.

you must be on object mode first....then you must return to frame 1 and from there hit alt-a. somtimes particle systems wont work if is not on frame1
