  • nice tutorial, but it doesnt render in the rendering window, its on the screen, (in the world) but doesnt render!

    help

  • AMAZING TUT THERE BROTHA! THANKS.

  • Thanks that really helps me. I like how you put text in there instead of talking becasue so we could read and see how to spell it and where it is.

  • He I'm trying the smoke simulator and I am using a scene I created with grass and a sky I can see the smoke in the viewport but when I go to render it does not appear in the final animation. What could I be doing wrong

  • @PaleRiderOnTheStorm

hi, try to check densit in your texture settings (texture -> influence -> densit)

  • I like how you say "Any questions? please post below." But you havent answered any of them.

  • when i make all of that and press Alt+A i see no smoke what can i do ?

  • Comment removed

  • dont works for me ;(, if i simulate there are only "points" :/

  • Do one where the smoke is being swept by an angle, like by the wind, or try an isocahedric domain, that would be cool.

  • How do i select the cube?

  • @Vvgirl98513 LOL, if you're asking this question, then you probaby shouldnt be watching this tutorial quite yet. I suggest watching some tutorials on the basics first since you dont know how to do the easiest tasks like selecting an object. hahaha.

  • the smoke is not appearing in the render - i'm just getting the plane and nothing else... what am I doing wrong?

  • oooo i can go up to like 40 divisions on my comp :D

  • what the flip everytime i select smoke and domain thats when it just like stops working but while im doing anything else it works fine

  • someone prolly already aid this before but you said particles but hit the physics button

  • nothing happened

  • Thankxs :D

  • i now blender well but not this version of blender !

  • @CroHack97 me 2 =/

  • what is the difference between hitting alt-a and baking? Do they do different things?

  • i got it !!!

i had 2 models, and i thought, i selectet the second one but it still rendered the first one with 100% desinty =D

  • i followed too.

im using a newer version of blendar i think

the smoke just dont appers in the render

  • i followed correctly but the smoke doesnt appear

  • So great! Thanks.

  • Hey man at :55 its the physic button not the particles button.

  • there must be something wrong with my blender, when i simulate, i have to move my plane around for it to emit any smoke, and when i render it, it crashes, any help? I know i do not have python up and working, could that be the problem?

  • where is the particles,I cant find it

  • Thank you! This tutorial showed me how to make the cube not show up.

  • Comment removed

  • thank you SOO much, this really helped

  • why does mine just stay at ground level?

  • my particle system says SmokeParticles.. I followed all instructions but when I alt-A there is no smoke that will appear.. What is the problem with my work?

  • i managed to get this work about a week ago and im trying to redo it but with a green background and the camera in a different postion. the smoke will no longer appear in the render :( please help

  • I always have high divisions (6 most of the times)... but i couldnt get my smoke visible but this helped so sickly much now i can!!

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have followed so many tutorials and they wouldn't work when I rendered them. One question thought. Do you know how I can make the object that the smoke is emitting from be invisible? I'm in 2.53 btw.

  • how do you tilt the camera, or dolly? please tell me, thanks

  • @Spaceguy999 if you meant in render, I think its where he edits the materials panel for the cube

  • finally I can render it with the smoke appearing, it didn´t appear before.

  • mine appers and slowly dissipates without rising or falling

  • awesome wallpaper!

  • when i try rendering it, nothing shows up except the shadow of the box..

  • when i try rendering it, nothing shows up except the shadow of the box..

  • @shinjinasai

At 1:24, instead of "none" leave it at "halo".

  • Thanks for the awesome tutorial, I'm going to post a video response of an animation that making.

  • @Aekeos

Oops, I mean that I'm making.

  • I am using blender 2.5 beta and i cannot find how to ake the cube the domain in the particle section?

  • Hey! Guess what!

    Uh oh! You link died.

Time to get a new one!

    lol

  • What software use you to make this capture of screen ? Thank's

  • thanks, this tutorial helped a lot

  • @0:59

it's not the particle but the physics button!

    anyway xD

great tutorial, even without a voice it works much better than any other tutorial i have seen so far. I have one question, i want my smoke to be thin and go low over the ground, like you see a lot in those war movies, more alike fog/warsmoke, to create the illusion that you're in a warscene, i'd apreciate it if you could help me out ;)

  • Is there a way to make the smoke react to outside forces, such as wind? I am currently making a short animation involving a steam ship and was wondering how to realistically make the smoke from the smokestacks appear real and react to wind. Great video though

  • get a microphone. great tutorial though thanks

  • get a microphone

  • That's the physics button? Not the particles button.

  • What's wrong with your voice?

  • Z key

  • awesome work dude why cant every one teach like this ....oh and can you do a tutorial on fire

  • I think that was one of the best tutorials I've seen

  • mine turns to sparks

  • Nice tutorial.

  • What about breath? Like, when people are breathing in a cold weather, you can see the air come out and then dissappear :/

  • NARUTO!!!!!!!! THE RAZEN SHURIKAN!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Realy good tut.! The other one on youtube dosnt show how to make the Cube invisible afterwards, so you still see the Cube in the end of the Tut.

    thanks a lot!

  • 0:57 this is the physics button, not the particles button

  • The first time it worked perfectly but once I watched the 250 frame animation once (with ALT-A) when it went back to one the last animation was still going, and so on. They just over lapped eachother.

  • When I press Alt-A it starts with a little gray puff at frame one, then nothing. I have gone through the video twice now. What did I do wrong?

  • @tlehmann1996 same here it shows a puff at frame 1

  • could someone please help me with this, when i try to render with the smoke on volumetric texturing, blender crashes, how do i fix it?

  • Do this work in blender 2.4 too??

  • @aleksdirector no volumetric smoke simulation is new to blender

the best you will get in blender 2.4 is grey sludge

  • First of all, very, VERY helpful tutorial. It took me forever before I saw this!

Also, what's the name of that song? I dig it! Thanks!

  • im trying to render a video, how do i make it start rendering without the smoke from the last simulation?

  • blender 2.5 is still in beta rite??..its not yet fully finished as i understand??

  • @tzydpro It's currently an alpha, soon to be a beta, and then it will be a fully released program

  • Thanks for the tut...

    Very cool...

  • very inovative way of creating tutorials, i like this one very much,(relaxing music, and readable hints).. and the effect is comparable with fumeFX.. but if we have in mind that blender is open source... hmmm :D vote goes to blender no dubt!!

  • Thanks, this is the first tutorial I've found that covers the material settings. Sure rendering in the viewport is pretty but not much use...

  • YEAH THIS DOES NOT WORK , maybe cuz im using 2.5 alpha 1

  • hey which program did you use for the screen record?

and tbh it looks real great :)

whoever needs more help on Blender, also check out BlendercookieDotCom

  • Thank you so much - your tutorial was much better than the other ones!

  • for the people who can't get the smoke to render it is because your domain is to small. I had the same problem and went over the video like three times to make sure I got everything until I figured it out.

  • It didn't worked for me, made step by step. I use Blender 2.5 Alpha 2

  • By the way, it didn't worked at the step where I have to press Alt+A... The video bar is going but no action in the scene.

  • @aliancemd yeah for me it made snow or something

  • 39 seconds. How?

As you can guess, I'm very new to this.

  • to wireframe any object just hit the "z" key

  • will this only work on 2.5?

  • @JamieA242 yeah in a way it will.

in 2.49 the interface is totally different.

and as its only 2.5 alpha 0 there might be some changes in the new interface as well.

  • Great tutorial! Keep it up! works perfectly in alpha 2 as well.

  • This is really a great tutorial. Very informative, very well done, and I even liked the music. Please keep this up.

  • Tried it with Alpha 2, worked perfectly! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

BTW: You can disable the rendering for the plane inside the particle-system emiter-tab. Disable the emitter rendering there.

If the simulation seems to produce only one particle you can try to change the divisions at the smoke tab (domain) to reset the simulation. Worked fine here. :)

  • Merci pour cette vidéo!!!

  • Everytime i click domain in mine, in alpha 0, 1, and 2 it closes D:

  • now THAT is how to do a tutorial. none of the scratchy microphone recording and self-promotion I commonly see in other tutorials. Well done! thanks a lot

  • Didn't work...Did exactly everything, I do see one particle of smoke in the first frame, it dissapears in the next one though.

  • Worked for me, thanks. Except you labeled "Physics" as "Particles" about :50 in or so, might want to change the label to match what you're doing there.

    Great job!

  • how do i make the smoke thinner

  • increase the hd resolution to about 4-5 and divisions higher...it makes it look like ciggareate smoke. you can also make the particles smaller and increase the rapid elevation of smoke.

  • @legendz53 But how can i change the world background black? PS: best tutorial of smoke in 2.5! :D

  • Darn! It crashed.

But great tutorial love it! FAVed and 5*****

  • I followed 2 tutorials until now for the smoke.

I followed yours carefully, but still no result.

in Alt+A I see the smoke growing.

If I render I only see the plane and no smoke( to be sure I wanted to render a frame where the smoke were really visible.

I even baked, If I bake it shows the smoke in edit, but nothing in Render mode.

    How can I solve it?

  • same problem here

  • @MrShoy have you figured it out?

  • @ahughesalex123 yeah..lont time ago :P

  • @ahughesalex123 long*

  • Thank you so much! I've been looking for a good tutorial on this.

  • how do i get it to work for rendering you say to bake it but i dont know how it seems to be fine up to wanting to render then no smoke in the video.could you tell me what i am doing wrong or what i need to do in bake

  • double check the video again and make sure that all of the materials and settings are exactly as i showed you...cuz if the smoke appears in your edit screen then there is nothing wrong with the bake only your settings. Also make sure you free the bake evry time you edit and want to rebake cuz it wont work.

  • is it possible to show how to do bake?i cannot get a smoke video not sure if the rendering is right no smoke in the video but it is in the animtion before i try to render

    cheers for any help

  • What is the name of the song you have in the video? I really like it and would like to get more of it on itunes.

  • is out of youtube music selection......here

Artist: Paco de Lucia With Vicente Amigo

Song: * Tres Notas Para Decir Te Quiero *

Album: Chill Out Con Duende - Vol. 1

  • Cool. Thank's. I will check them out. Great job on the tutorial. Keep up the good work.

  • did u bake smoke cache or smoke high resolution cache?

  • if you guys are having trouble, try downloading the latest blender release from graphicall. it fixed some of my problems.

  • thanks dude you help me a lot. 5/5

  • I think I am hitting a performance bug on this. What are your render times for the final animation? I am running on a 2x Quad-Core (8 Cores total) system and this is crawling!

  • about 3.5 seconds per frame in the final render, ...

with 250 frames total it takes 12.5 minutes

however,... it takes more time to simulate the smoke., with 4 divisions, 250 frames of animation takes about 10-15 minutes....thats even before rendering.

  • no smoke came out when i started animation

  • After going through the tutorial a good 5 times I got the simluation to work. So I tried to render it and all I got was the grey "world" and the plane, no smoke AT ALL. Are ther any application conflicts with alpha0? Becuase I followed your tutorial to the letter.

  • thank u dude been searching this all day... thank you!

  • thnks

  • can't get it to render :( tried changing world colors and watched this video 10 times to see if I missed something. am on windows 7 using Blender 2.5 alpha 0

  • im using windows 7 too... i have not had any difficulties yet..but it could be something you did wrong im sure..

  • thanks! I went back and redid everything and realized that when I made my material the texture slots was already there, so I figured I try deleting it and adding new texture instead, I think this might be a bug. Or just a portion of GUI that needs to be redone.

  • Please Help! I followed your tutorial just fine until 2:38 when you said to simulate the scene. I selected (Option/Alt + A) but I didn't see the smoke like your video shows. What render settings do I need to select to see the smoke? Are you in "Object" mode etc?

    (mac octocore 12 GB ram)

  • you must be on object mode first....then you must return to frame 1 and from there hit alt-a. somtimes particle systems wont work if is not on frame1

but check first that you have selected the particle system at 1:37 to enable the simulation to happen first or it will not work

  • Thanks I will give that a try.

  • dude..you have a fast machine..how much for it?

  • Too much IMO, but it's getting outdated fast. Cry!

  • Can you add a glow effect?

  • yes..go to the video sequence editor...and click where it says [add]...then select [scene] place it anywhere....then click [add] again and in the top of the selections click on "effects strips" and add [glow]. then refresh sequencer. your scene should be below glow effects.

  • Thnx dude.

  • High resolution crashes my system every time. No exceptions. mac os x 10.6.2 2Gb ram Intel Duo Core, only 6 months old.

Other things I learned, don't scale your domain along any axis by itself. Always keep it square or it will freak out. 6 hrs playing with this thing and one little puff of smoke.

  • it seems blender requires more than dual core to be effecient for this simulation..i didnt know that. i had no problems since im working with a 2.8 ghz core2Quad and 4 gb ram. only if i increase it to any higher than 8 it will crash every time, but ive noticed it does little change in visual..so whats the point, i always keep it at 4-5. it sucks now that we have to upgrade

  • Nice Tutorial THX !! =)

  • FINNALY a tutorial that works
