Whats an avg. temp in san francisco in early to mid January? please dont answer avg low, just it dont normally drop below this except for a rare day...thanks.
what do you guys think? when i'm done with college, and have ehnough money, i was thinking ofeither moving somewhere in cali, like san francisco, but if i do move out of state, i was thinking either, washington state, utah, idaho, arizona, montanna, south dakota/ND, texas, or colorado. but waaaaaaay out there, my first moving choice would be ohio! and what cities!
macilak... Seems like you had fun on your trip to my city.
I just wanted to state that us Northern Californians are not all about the money. That is more and L.A life style. In San Francisco we have nice people and well, you might come across rude people as well... But thats life and every town/city will have their differs. Overall San Francisco people are some of the most kindest, unique, liberal open minded people in the world. Sorry you came across people who think their better....
looks scary to drive a car around there what if your brakes break when going up a hill pretty scary lol i would just ride a longboard around the city problem is its going to be underwater in the futuer cause of globel warming lol
Born and raised baby, it's a changing. Dad told me Castro used to be an Irish community full of working people. It's all good, home is where I put my head down. It's a mental state. I do agree many people that have moved out here as of late, we don't get along well, but if they can live without disturbing me, likewise, no qualms here. Peace and love all day everyday. Fall or late Spring is the time to come.
It is a good thing to say that you found somewhere (SF) more expensive than you wished to pay ... etc.
.
People often have great difficulty do/saying this; some people pay too much for houses and their lifestyle suffers, just to be nervously close to some icon thing, that they don't need.
Yes you put it well. SF is a great city but it is way too expensive to live there. A lot of people live or want to live there solely for the reason so they can say they live there... BUT it does not mean they are happy or happier than anybody else. The city is expensive and the job market is not very favorable either. I moved to another city where I was able to buy a house which I could have never ever done in SF, just like a lot of other people.
That is so interesting -when you say ... "so they can say they live there ...".
.
When ever I hear this I aways try to ask the speaker (not you) just exactly who is it they are preparing themselves to be able to say this to?
.
When I first saw San Francisco, I wondered what it was that made a city -any city, look the way it did, including painted ladies and opera house on the harbour, etc.,(Sydney).
For those who live there... Sorry to say but .. in my experience generally Northern Californians think they are better and happier than anyone else because they live in an area that is beautiful. However, beauty is not everything: no matter how beautiful your surrounding are you can still be unhappy, miserable and poor.
"in my experience generally Northern Californians think they are better and happier than anyone else because they live in an area that is beautiful. " thast 100 % RIGHT ON . I have lived here for the last 50 years and its the most beautiful place on earth . ... the " unhappy nouve riche miserable and poor that y ou speak of live in the vast
wasteland of plastic called SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ...
@macilak The happy and the rich? Seriously? I've lived here all my life and I can tell you that not everyone is happy and even less are rich. Did you ever travel to the central valley? Woodland? Dunnigan? Corning? Hamilton City?
@macilak Not all of Northern California is beautiful (Central Valley?). And trust me, most people here don't think they're better than everyone else. It's often the opposite.
anyone who lives in sanfrancisco can tell you that the city is definitaly not spoiled. when was the last time you took a walk into the haight, or the mission, or the tenderloin etc etc etc. It is an expensive city i will grant you, but you making a gross generalization.
i actually think you made a good choice leaving san fran. the bay area is expecting a huge 7.2 quake in the next 30 years at the oakland vaunt line. that was said in 2000. i suppose we still have 22 years to prepare ourselves for the big one.
man i LOved our vaction from her in Tampa to S.F its alot different though cause of the mountians and hills.Still a beutiful place to live in though...
Wonders why it is so expensive to live in a city where at least a 1/3 of it is built over the ruins of the 1905 earthquake & will be the first area to crumble when another quake hits ?
I was watching a documentary about the marina, where they took old ships & sank them in place, dumped all the quake debris & dirt over it to build on, but a recent dig unearthed the remains of one of the ship's remains, pretty cool.
LOL. I'm pretty sure having yuppies and 'trendy assholes' is suppose to be a good thing. Any city can be a family oriented city, but it takes advancement to be san fran.
only bad thing about san francisco is the wierd people on the bus and some bums that are drunk all the time not all but smoe other than that its fun btw i live in SF
going next month, can't wait. part of a 10 day road trip me and a mate are undertaking: start & finish in San Francisco, in-between taking in Vegas, Grand canyon, Death Valley, Yosemite & Sacramento.. we're gonna be dead at the end!!!

In my opinion, SF is America's most beautiful city and I've been to so many places/cities,, big and small, all over the country. SF is incomparable!
Expensive though, you're right.

Everything is retrofitted the hell out of. If you're on bedrock, you should be okay.
I don't know why anyone would buy a place in the Marina district though.
