  • Saw this just before my strum bar broke, but I can't view the schematic on the ScoreHero page. Could you reupload it somewhere or direct me to a site where you posted more parts/wiring information?

  • I know I'm kinda late to the party, but I just saw this video as well as the forum thread with the schematics and I put something together, but I'm not clear on the input and output sides of the schematic. I was thinking that the input side would just connect directly to the wires for the upstrum sensor, but wouldn't the IR light beam be the end of the circuit? I don' tknow what the "output" side of the schematic would connect to. Also, I am going to be putting this in a "Wired" guitar.

  • Could you make a guide for this and is it possible to do on a Les Paul because that would be very awesome!

  • this guitar have wire but this guitar can be wireless becuz i see at back it have battery place

  • but if your using an infared light how will you know when the bulb burns out? And... an LED would be so fricking cool!!:^)

  • cool =3

  • that is so freakin awesome

  • how did you guys do this.... this mod is bound to be checked out a lot when the new rockband comes out.. hope it it actually works!!!

  • Wouldn't we be able to see it on the camera recording though...wtf?

  • @TheXog

We wondered that too. As it turns out a lot of cameras, both video and otherwise, have IR filters on them so that the picture they take looks like what you would have seen in real life and doesn't include the IR component. But, yes, CCD sensors do pick up infrared ordinarily.

  • @TheXog there was a red reflection coming off of the mirror behind the light beam

  • Use a fan spinning fast to strumm fast

  • nice i want that on mine

  • easy bass achievement!! :D

  • Yeah, that is a great idea, but dude, you can't go nearly as fast with that thing as you can with a normal strum bar.

  • I wish u could use a pick

  • i can strum way faster than tap?

  • dude thats awsome but dont you think its alot of money to spent on rockband??? but thats awsome

  • Is there any chance you can post a how to video?!? I would love to have that!

  • I think the hole would get annoying and maybe hurt your fingers after a while, i would put a sheet of plastic or metal across the game(yes i notice the edges have a lower ledge so i would put a peice with that thickness so its nice and smooth)

  • what was that song after move along?

  • flyleaf song

  • @heety9 Sick Sick Sick- Flyleaf.

  • I've always thought it would be cool to make a rig that uses a string and every time you strum the string it has a sensor in it that senses tension so I can tell when you are strumming the string.

  • @mattboy1152 3rd video in the Related Videos. there ya go.

  • awsome im getting rockband here in awile it would be nice to have that thing for a guitar me and friend play gh all the time and strumming gets anoying. cool vid dude

  • I have the same guitar in the back!!!

  • Use two beams and you can trigger up and down stroke depending on which beam is broken first.

  • dude, that is soo sick!! my stepdad and i get tired of actually strumming, he would love to do that to one of ours cuz its broken and he can only strum up...

  • u can see the light but u have to look at it at a angle though like at 2:30 into the clip ull see it but u have to stop it so u can see it

  • Yeah, I wouldn't doubt that there's the possibility of seeing the beam on the video. The thing is that IR light is invisible to you and I but not to a video or still shot camera. They can see IR light just fine and it shows up as a visible light when they record. Good catch though. I never noticed it before.

  • yeah np

  • umm, dude you act like this is his life, seriously half of the rb/gh players play real instrument if not more, so I hope that changes your mind

  • Yeah, I play a real guitar too. ;-) To me playing a real guitar is awesome but it's more difficult to find people to play with than rock band or guitar hero. Those sort of games are fun and you can easily get your friends and family to play with you. That's got to count for something.

  • i know how that is im trying t start a band but i need a second guitarist and a singer but so far nothing

  • thats a big screen dude

  • id like it installed on an rb2 guitar

  • does the led thing come with the guitar

  • hell no its a mod

  • that would solve the sound problem with strumming on a guitar hero guitar

  • It's like my sisters "Hannah Montana" Guitar hero. =) hehe

  • What about a pick holder? I got a Jim Dunlop pick holder, that is about 8mm wide, and it feels really comfortable, and won't bug up due to the small pick size.

  • i put a mod on my plastic les paul, i put 6 strings on it that all work when i strum each one, it made the game more fun for me and actually kinda helped with real guitar

  • Let's see it!

  • kk, buy me a camera haha mine brokdded

  • this is one of the best guitar mods ive seen yet. looks like it will revolutionize teh game. can this be done on any plastic guitar?

  • i feel that this could have many problems.. lol

  • OMG, one step closer to being a real guitar.

  • Cool... That's what I call a good mod!!

  • That's Awesome,

  • how come they never made this for any guitar hero's its a great idea

  • im guessing its because it costs a lot... and they would loose LOADS of money mass producing these :P and even if they did i dont think many people would buy it because it would cost too much.... i mean gh and rockband is already like... £100...

  • I don't think an infrared light, and reciever are that expensive...

  • not at all.. practically nothing. We're talking pennies in the bulk that manufactures buy in. cost is not an issue at all with this. Its all about durability and ease of use. Would a small child be able to figure it out? I dunno.. but manufactures have to cater to the lower common denominator.

  • pretty nice good job!

  • You could make a lot of money off of this.

just a suggestion. make two infared lines with

two recievers and wire it so when the top beam

is broken first the guitar registers as "down" and

when the bottom is broken first it registers as "up"

  • The reason that's a bad idea is because then, whenever you strum in any direction, you'll always strum twice, as two beams will be broken. See what I mean?

This is what one beam would look like:

    |--|

This is what two beams would look like:

    |=|

To try and pick one or the other would just be too difficult, especially since there is no feel or visible light.

  • can you do a vid or link for a DIY please :(

  • at first i thought it looked like a dumb idea but now i think it looks cool.

  • omg you should put those guitars up for sale or show RockBandParts :D

  • Patent that shit ASAP

  • Now you should make inferred green red yellow blue and orange buttons and solo buttons that would be really awesome :)

  • looks awesome, but im not sure how well this would work on a song like Thrasher

  • hahaha ham up so air guitar!

  • cool

  • great job!!

    /bows down

  • Booyah. That's awesome and I wish I had the technical know-how to modify one of my own guitars like that for the lulz. Don't suppose you'd consider posting a 'how to' video or text file?

  • Kinda sure somebody will be making moolah from this tech in some way & prob fairly soon. would def suggest a visit to your nearest Patent office & coughing up the necessary payment to register the tech idea in your name. The thought of somebody else(large Multi-National) profiting from your idea should be motivation enough. If you're not not interested/motivated by money then give any future ©profits from this to an elected charity. Nicely done & good luck. Ethical investment?

  • Very nice!

  • well done, hats off to both of you

  • Clever guys

  • would still feel better if you could feel the strum... without feedback it would be weird...

  • Amazing. Great job.

  • wow thats badass.. you should so get a patent on this and outsell the warbeast <3

    I'd buy it.

  • patent! patent! fuckin awesome idea man... love it.

  • Surely it's not faster to tap, if you strum up & down when strumming

  • How much would a mod like this run? Are you guys considering producing it for sales?

  • I think that, yes, we will sell this once we've put something more professional together. And I don't see it going over $30-35 for the mod. That seems like a reasonable price point. At the same time I've also posted the schematics on the web too so people with soldering irons and some electronics knowledge can try to do it on their own. Or, I'll probably also sell a kit that soldering enthusiasts can use to put it together themselves for cheaper. I might also sell pre-modded used guitars.

  • Where can we find the schematics?

  • Check the description of the video. I posted links to two forums. On scorehero there is a schematic.

  • sick yo... really innovative.. this is gnna get a million views in no time.. you already on a few websites... thats how i saw this...

    playstation . joystiq . com/tag/@ps3

  • It'll probably fuck with the new 360 "motion sensing" camera coming out, which uses infrared to calculate depth.

  • Actually, LEDs are known for having pretty tight light cones. IR LEDs have even tighter light cones. So the interference shouldn't really be that bad... I hope... ;-)

  • Very cool - but I agree, a tutorial would be fantastic. Thanks!

  • thats awesome!!! tutorial pls? anyways, 5 stars

  • Kudos. Looks and plays well. As already suggested, pay up and patent cos if a manufacturer hasn't already got hold of the idea then you'll be raped of the financial benefits.

  • Oddly, you seem to still prefer scrubbing your finger(s) across the area, like moving the strum bar.

  • =O Now you can make an Laser ukulele

  • cameramen shouldnt yell into the camera

  • S-mart!!!

  • DUDE QUICK! PATENT THAT!

  • Totally awesome man!

I'd love to do a mod like this on my guitar, but all this talk about photo receptors and light and dark actuated circuits is a bit above my head.

Maybe I'll do some reading and see if I can do it sometime.

    Great job!

    =]

  • you can already do the real "pick" motion. that's how i play. anyway, the tapping idea would be great for stuff like visions where the speed is insane.

  • Yeah, you can already do the proper picking motion but I feel like it's very restricted and unnatural feeling. I'm used to picking an electric guitar and to me the light beam with it's lack of tactile feedback actually feels more natural than the strum bar. I suppose your mileage may vary.

  • Interesting.

    How did you do it?

  • Pixie dust and fairy toes. ;-)

Actually, IR LED & photo receptor wired in a dark actuated circuit. There's a circuit board glued inside the guitar that inverts the signaling to be dark actuated instead of light actuated.

  • I still think it's funny that you made me for the parts to fix this guitar when you broke it. Hopefully people like the mod though.
