Thank you 240252 for sharing the recording and comments. He sounds gutturally like Joseph Schmidt... That aside, you say that in '35 the Italian 'Non-Conformistoes' came to Paris like Tino Rossi... I love Rossi , but there is the suggestion that he inclined too closely to the Vichy cabal... Any ideas on that???
un piccolo laboratorio di modisteria (cappelli )e le ragazze tutte...ascoltano rapite qusto tango...italiano ..non c'era la tv e la radio era tutto per noi...
Yes, we are still enjoying the music but in a way it makes things worse because otherwise we wouldn't know what we've missed. Its so sad to read about the fate of so many of these great European performers.
This beautiful tango brings to mind a wonderful night in my life. When I visited France, one evening while in Paris, we were cruising on the Seine, the sun was setting and it was very balmy, we approached an embankment and there was such a sight to behold.. a group of young people dancing the tango to the most beautiful music. Since I love the tango and am a romantic, I felt that God produced that show just for me. :)
Great counterpoint of this lovely tango (in my favorite language) and the pre-war joie de vivre or should I say noir de vivre of Paris. Black & white photos are often more evocative than those in color.
Young people have discovered their parents music from 60s & 70s,
I wonder if they can discover their grandparents music from 30s & 40s ?
After all, they collect antiques from that era !

Superbe, je viens de l'envoyer à mon père pour son anniversaire.
Mais n'oublions pas la merveilleuse interprétation de Berthe Sylva!

A voice similar to Rossi's. Sometimes I think we were born too late, but the fun ended in 1939.

I thought that it was Rossi singing. I saved your exquisite Pearlfischers-Romance de Nadir to my favorites a while ago.
The fun has not ended, you are still enjoying the music and sharing it with others for which I must be forever grateful. :) Thank you.
