i disagree. he is not as well rounded as wang hao or ma long. best 3rd ball attack - sure, amazing skills both close and away from the table - sure. but he also has his weaknesses much more so than some other chinese players. remember how matsudaira's blocks caught him off guard?

I don't have a coach in the U.S. and I study how Wang Liqin plays to learn his style. I see that he has a forehand dominated style but he still stays in the middle and uses his backhand because he does not want to use a cross step to forehand loop the ball, that is the difference between his footwork and other players.

On the contrary, i believe there are almost no shakehand players who try to play so much with their forehand. Even balls that seem impossible, he still plays them with his forehand and just adds more sidespin to make up for his position.

Okay, am I the only one that just gets mesmerized watching Wang Liqin's strokes? I can't recall a player with such graceful, powerful, perfect strokes. I always thought Appelgren played with great grace as well, but Wang just takes it to another level, and his leg/footwork is just freakish.
