  • @markblaster1 Agreed. Especially about healthcare. Its heartbreaking when I hear American's being told how they are the land of the free/greatest country on earth. I'm Australian, & though we don't have gay marriage yet, 68% of us in every independent poll support it. We have free healthcare, great welfare & completely affordable universities. We've got nothing on Scandinavian countries though. @depfox It makes non-Americans mad & sad when they hear 'America is leading the way' when they aren't.

  • Jay: Next time there is a gay issue that needs attention - tell us what it is and what we can do about it or did i miss that part? You have 3000 + adults that you can call to action. It needs to be spelled out very clearly what to do. Attach a letter or campagne I would be more than happy to get involved and spread the word outside of Youtube. BTW I think it was a good strategic move to call out DW -it spread the word - IMO

  • We do to have a front runner, at least in my mind, lady gaga i feel has put a lot of time abd energy into the gay community in marches and speeches and has brought attention to alot of these issues thanks to her massive fan base. But your right there needs to be more people standing up. But picking on davey wasnt cool, he has a right to do whatever he wants and you all should respect that.

  • You all are pitiful

  • @TheReformed1

My last response to you, regardless... The male prostitutes you speak of are people from pagan religions that would have male orgies and ejaculate on an alter so that their gods would bless them with a good harvest. Do your homework, you fucking christian. There's very much you don't understand about this, and it's kinda funny that I'm a satanist schooling you in your own religion. Now kindly kill yourself so you can be with your god and I'll chill here with people who can love.

  • @TheReformed1

Did jesus run around saying everyone's going to hell? Did he run around trying to tell everyone how bad they were? Or if I did in face read that book of BS from cover to cover like I remember doing, MAYBE he just tried helping people, showing them god's glory and what have you so that they'd repent? Now you can try to argue with me, but you're not doing what your jesus said you ought to do. And like I said, I'm done arguing with you, so unless you bring up a VALID point, I'm done.

  • Why don't people realize sexuality isn't EVERYTHING? Also, why don't people realize that IT'S NOT A CHOICE! WHO WOULD WANT TO LIVE A LIFE OF PEOPLE HATING YOU? And homophobic Christians, didn't God create EVERYONE? Doesn't he love EVERYONE? Being gay/lesbian doesn't hurt anyone. What "horrible" characteristic do ALL gays have that straight people haven't done? Many straights have beat their animals, does that mean ALL straights do that? No! Please, try to understand.

  • @TheReformed1

I find it VERY ironic that you claim to be a christian, yet you're here trying to condemn and tear down (not that it's working) when your little baby jesus commanded you otherwise, as did his apostles. By jesus's definition, you are not a true christian, no better than those pharisees. And all this comes from somebody who doesn't give a rats ass about religion! Anyways, I'm done with your bigotry. Go troll elsewhere. I put your stupid hypocritical ass in place.

  • @TheReformed1

I can toss out MUCH more scripture than that, trust me ;-) I disrespect NOBODY with my sexuality, same as straight eople. Who gives a fuck who I love? YOUR god created it, right? Not that I believe in him, which brings me to my next point - I spit in nobody's face. It's kinds hard to when your god doesn't exist. And also, read James 3:10, Colossians 4:6, Proverbs16:23, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, and 1 Thessalonians 5:8-11 before your godly attitude towards me starts yelling "fag".

  • @TheReformed1

Ah yes, very telling. Especially after I also told you genetic are usually going to decide if you're smart, more likely to join a cult, er religion, and other positive aspects. It's not a problem. Homosexuality is something that isn't to be ashamed of, and people like you ought to waste their breath on something important. "It's a deviant perversion in the eyes of christianity."? 1Cr 14:35, and Numbers 31:9 & 18 tell you sex slaves are ok and that women should never talk in church

  • @TheReformed1

No, it's NOT a perversion. People like you also try saying interracial sex is un-natural. I'm on the right track, bitch because believe it or not, I was born this way. Some people (such as yourself) are more inclined to join a religion. Some people are born with cystic fibrosis or muscular dystrophy. Some people are born smart, some born with a low sex drive, you name it. If your god can't make gay people, tell me where genetic disorders/mutations come from.

  • @TheReformed1

I have no idea? I went through ex-gay hell because I wasn't created good enough by your "almighty God". I'd go ahead and tell you about that experience, but you wouldn't give half a shit because you think your religion is infallible. It is, believe me. It's no perversion. "I'm on the right track baby, I was BORN THIS WAY." Don't like how your "god" made me? Take it up with him. Oh, and when someone comes up with concrete proof against homosexuality, let me know ;-)

  • @TheReformed1

Ok Christian, always finding ways to twist words to fit "thy holy needs"... I said "Who would choose the life of ridicule and hate from people like you and their families and friends?". I said NOTHING about perversion or whatever heterosexist/religiously influenced BS you tried turning it into. But I know it's the only way you christians can fight, since you have no legitimate argument, so you have to try and create one.

  • @TheReformed1

It took me three months for me to stumble across the video and this particular comment, you douche. And please try and learn proper grammar. "typified"? wtf? And "deviant perversion"? Do tell me how this is a perversion. I mean, I know you're a christian so you will refuse to hear anybody speaking out of their heart when they say it's not their choice to be gay (Who would choose the life of ridicule and hate from people like you and their families and friends?)

  • @TheReformed1

    You just described christianity.

  • One day the rainbow flag and the American flag will float in the wind above the White House. One day...

  • heh free county my ass i live in crappy oregon our education sucks our law force is shitty and i live near drug neighbors and no one will od anything and the rest of america is kinda going down the crapper to i mean gays have now been "allowed" into the military allowedd doesnt mean free i mean canada and the french are like hey gay marriage who cares yeah its official im moving to canada or france screw america i feel sorry for people who cross the border dont it aint worth it

  • Actually it's Lev. 20:13 and I wish these fear mongering Bible thumpers would finish the verse, which generally says they must or shall be put to death. So you wackos support the death penalty for any men who have willingly engaged in gay sex. That means about 40% of the male population in the U.S. should be murdered! Hey you chose to be a literalist and impose your fairy tales on others.

    Paul Harris

Author, "Diary From the Dome, Reflections on Fear and Privilege During Katrina"

  • Thank you.

  • @markblaster1 i read ur comments and i agree with u totally. i live in america and u r right, our govt is corrupt, we have terrible healthcare and bible thumpin bigots with deep pockets who hate homosexuals. i wish i lived anywhere but here. i am embarrased to say i am an american.

  • @markblaster1 leviticus 18:21: "do not lie with a man as you would with a woman do do so is an abomination"

  • @depfox firstly let me say that i agree with you for the most part on your main point at the large apathetic attitude among the gay community on the issue of equal rights.yet where i do differ with you is that your personal situation with your partner and 2 beautiful kids has A LOT more invested in the issue than many others. yet let me say, as one of Michael Buckley's first 1000 subs, you are off as far as he is concerned. i've seen tears stream from his eyes talking about his husband. cont.

  • @Ardie2pt0 now back to the larger point. the battle that is most important in your life is not everyone's else's. i can pretty much say with accuracy davey does not subscribe to the traditional idea of marriage as it pertains to only being with one person with kids etc. i can also say (unlike many others) i doubt his view will ever change. now if davey was forced to eat at gay only restaurants i'd bet the farm his ass would be leading the charge. so while yes it would be nice if he did share

  • @Ardie2pt0 your passion on the issue of marriage equality, and the idea of traditional marriage, he doesn't, like many younger gay people (and straight people for that matter) lets face the facts, marriage as a successful functioning institution is on a fast decline. there are just too many enticing fruit of the garden of eden out there in today's world that make it so much more difficult. so let me say again, i am a fighter for marriage equality because it is an issue that is important to me

  • @Ardie2pt0 as i'm from the south and have been raised with southern chivalric values. i'm not even in a long term relationship. so my main point is while yes it would be nice for those with larger audiences to take up our same banner and fight for the cause that is important to us, we have no reason to expect them to. i believe there is a couple generation gaps that you may not understand. gay marriage is inevitable. you just can't expect because someone is gay, they feel as strongly as u do

  • America in no way leads the world. America is very backwards with regards to gay rights. Norway, Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark. Those countries lead the way. Not you. HM government in the United Kingdom passed a national law granting same sex unions just after homosexuality was fully legalised in the US by Lawrence v. Texas in 2003.

The mayor of the capital of Iceland (a heterosexual man) went to the Gay Pride in drag. America has miles to go and is no wear near the lead.

  • lol Shane isn't gay xD

  • @MrPaion Tell me that in a couple years when he comes out

  • @depfox well thats a little rude.... i mean, a video like this would just push me further in the closet.....

  • @MrPaion why would it put you further in the closet?

  • @depfox someone on Youtube talking about how im gay

i would get sad, offended, angry

most of what im saying is based on how i acted two years ago when i was still in the closet

Shane might be different, but either way i dont think you should say that until he's officially out....

  • @MrPaion True I assumed that he was gay from the videos that he makes its was a mistake on my part that he isnt out. That being said I still think he is probably gay. He can come out or not. I doubt me thinking he is gay is really that big of a deal to him.

  • @depfox thats true, but as they say assuming makes an ass of you and me

    food for thought :)

  • @MrPaion Yes I make an Ass out of myself a lot ;O( that being said if you follow his channel you know as much as I do that he takes a bunch of crap about all kinds of people so I guess I dont feel that guilty about a simple mistake.

  • @depfox TRUE!!! haha

  • welcome to my world! I've long said that the gay community is apathtic as hell. Mark my words Jay.....this Civil Rights thing is gonna have to get much more ugly & dare I even say publicly bloody like the blacks of the 60ies getting beat & killed. Or Alice Paul & the womens sufferagest getting thrown in jail & violently force fed. The gays of today thinks its enough to be young good looking & have hot sex. if only they knew how very close they are to loosing even that modicum of freedom.

  • Right on!

  • can sum1 pls tell me wuts goin on,i dont live in USA,so i kinda dont get it????

  • Sorry, but America does not lead the way to change in the world. On the contrary.

  • You guys are an inspiration to not only gay people but all people concerned with the rights of all people to simply exist in the world. As for davey, not only do I find him not attractive, in spite of his well developed fisique, I find him an offensive sterotype. As a gay man living in the city known as the "home of the moral majority, I feel the most important thing a gay person can so as as individual is to be "out." Keep up the good work.

  • Why did you think shane dawson is gay in the first place? Kind of ironic. Shane Dawson is homophobic and anti-gay.

  • Well I know that you are disapointed

But you shouldnt blame others youtubers

You dont even know the reason why they didnt make a video about this

Well Im brazilian and recently I made a video about the NO8 Campaign

I think we all should have the same rights

But I dont really care about marriage. I care about rights

If I love someone I dont need to tell the whole world

If i have him on my side thats enough

So as you can see We can all be queers and still have differents point of view.

  • @TheMiles777 When you are treated less then the norm its doesnt matter what the rights are. When we are all equale then young gay men and women wont be singled out as different, lessthen. We are all Gods children and our loves are just as important as any straight relationship dont buy into the lies that domestic partnerships are as equale as marriage they are not.

  • @depfox I don`t belive that domestic partnerships are as equale as marriage

But even if i was straight i wouldnt care about marriage.

You didnt understand what i am saying

I want equale rights and i wanna be aloud to marriage a guy if I want to

I agree with you when you said that about equality

But you are only putting gays against gays.

    When the government are guilty

Famous Youtubers should use their voices, but you cant condemn they for not doing this.

  • @markblaster1 "... the world is weeping for [us]"? Feels more like "laughing at us" when they're not outright (and often rightfully) HATING us.

  • gays have Harvey Milk! =)

  • keep up the good work i love davey wavey and think it was a dick move on his part to block you how ever u have a very strong opinion and i feel u should be able to express your self in wat ever way u deem fit we are struggling for gay rights freedom speech shouldnt even be in your concerns

  • actually, id say canada is leadig the way in the gay commuity. i live in canada and everyone is very open and interested in.

and shane dawson isnt gay, hun.

  • It Will never happen until "we" shut down the "AIDS" Industry and stop allowing the Gay Industry to $ell the GBLT out, until then the very same religious zealots will continue to sell the phantom "HIV" to every gay man on the planet and right wing christians will continue to spread the same old tired doctrines that Gay People are hideous disease infested creatures.

The equal rights movement will conquer when Gay People wake up and stop allowing them to poison our minds and our bodies.

  • In response to the letter/email you received from the UK. I think there are many people world-wide who have a misconception of what AMERICA is. They would be disgusted to find out a government "by the people, for the people" is nothing of the sort. This is a Capitalistic nation. Money talks, bullshit walks. If we are interested in getting real legislation passed, we have to line the right pockets. Of course, this does not address our "police state" issues throughout much of the country. Jus sayin

  • I know this is an old video, but I just had to comment. I don't think you over reacted at all. It was wrong of Davey Wavey to remove your comment, and even worse to block you, simply for expressing your opinion. We do need to speak out about things like what happened in Maine, and I think the big YouTubers have a responsibility to stand up for our rights. People can certainly ignore that responsibility but should be prepared to be criticized for it.

  • meanwhile, this world is the most corrupted it's ever been, madness is everywhere - please contribute by focusing your energy on the current genocide that is taking place - or maybe the mess in afghanistan.

  • there are so many more worthy causes to fight apathy for. no one is stopping gays from their lifestyle - you lose out on marriage benefits - it shouldn't be this big of a deal. it isn't. everyone would prefer equality, yes, but you are asking the entire country to change and make legal something that is very unnatural. it's not as simple as "equal rights."

  • That's because the US is no longer a First World nation.

  • yeah but it is a bit difficult considering subscribers to youtube are globally spread. not all of us live in america. so its a little difficult to post videos that appeal globally when the issue, although it does affect a series of countries, doesnt apply to the same political structure worldwide. for instance america has only two political parties, elsewhere there are far more and sometimes its just a monarchy or dictatorship. the issues just tackled differently elsewhere

  • Why do people always fight amongst themselves instead of fighting against the source of their problems?

  • this guy is a fag, no offense since im gay but please STFU and stick a cock in your mouth!!

  • no, fag is offensive. I don't care if you're gay.

  • We have Margaret Cho, she is out Martin Luther King!!!!

  • I agree! I live in Canada and we allow gay marriage and everyone has equal rights. However, I believe that America has a greater influence on the world sometimes good and sometimes bad. Once America and it's individual states open up and allow more rights the rest of the world will follow. But for the time being all gay people are welcome in Canada

  • i love being gay

  • the US are backward in culture and has NEVER lead the world in any 'way in changing'.

  • GAY

  • There is no justifying injustice. People (gay or straight) are recognizing the wrong in the needless dicrimination aaginst gays and lesbians.

The only possible and acceptable outcome of the current human rights struggle is legal equaltiy for all Americans, including marriage equality.

Here's a hopeful fact: Nobody changes their views from pro-equality to anti-gay, it is always the other way around. Support for gay marriage equality is growing, not declining!

    Equaity will win SOON!

  • The thing that is pissing me off is important people like Ellen DeGeneres who have a major outlet to help gay rights and i know shes a major supporter but instead of getting into the thick of things during prop 8 she chickened out and did a small video spot. where are our gay celebrities when we need them? THANK YOU WANDA SYKES!! for stepping up to the plate. we need more celebs like her.

  • plankboi, I agree but remember, the last time ellen made a stand, she couldn't get back on tv for like 7 years. I think she is just being cautious because when she came out and tried to make a stand, she was destroyed. I just think she doesn't want to experience that again.

  • @markblaster1 I hear ya....we are pretty fucked up down here....I'm American and it's shameful as hell how things are down here...

  • i was pissed when question 1 did not go through : /

  • America will eventually catch on to the rights thing....once all the old senators die off

  • When you look at equal rights, as far as this country has come, there is still a long way to go.

I am all for gay rights, including same sex marriage. However, we need to not just bring forth our own petitions. We need to walk along with women, with people of color, with people of different beliefs, with all our sisters and brothers and ask for true equality.

It is unfortunate that SSM is not legal in the states, but just know that one day it will be, thanks to people like you.

  • Shane Dawson is straight........

    isn't he?

    xoxo

  • Umm. You're wrong. Gay marriage isn't the most important thing to our community. Also, the united states is way behind on gay rights.

  • maximov while I agree some of davey's videos are a bit on the silly side he does sill adress some issues and he doesn't seem the sort to be seen in a bathhouse (I didn't know those still existed in the U.S)... although I've never met him in real life so maybe he is.... I don't know

  • I'm from the Netherlands

  • "America leads the way in changing how people in the world perceive gay people"

Sorry to burst your bubble, but there are countries way ahead of the US. For example in my country, politicians wouldn't dare to be against gay-marriage, since it's against popular opinion.

Other than that I do agree with you video:)

  • I agree with you 100% the comment is sipose to lead the way on rights thats sadly not the case

  • Bryan and Jay i admire you passionate personalities and the determination you have while fighting for gay marriage rights and i will be extremely disappointed in you guys if you ever listen to the hate and stop making videos because of it.

anyways you guys are the best and on your channel is my first ever comment and subscription after 4 years of using youtube, so love from me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow! Thanks for this video. I'm really impressed with ur maturity & explanation about ur emotional reaction to Maine & Davey Wavey. it is such a good lesson, sometimes we all make mistakes that can be a distraction to what we are trying to say. But when we do step back and apologize the important part comes through and is even more powerful than we originally intended. I hope Davey let's you back in the fold! I know that he gets a lot of hate responses...so maybe he will be forgiving too

  • @MaleOrderBride dude chill....what does talk about gay marriege have to do with HIV? If you're gonna be a bitch and cry about lack of video's....why not YOU put up one?

  • Amen!

  • I am from Belfast but I know about the struggles in the USA, its ignorance that lives in the gay community and is damaging us. What you said was right, we don't have a Harvey Milk today but we have the internet and you tube and its the reasonability of all Gay people to come together to fight hatred and ignorance and if we don't we will lose, their is strength in numbers and unfortunately, some gay role models arent living up to what is NEEDED from them, but you are and thats a start. .

  • Am i welcome to be your neighbour too?

  • Marriage is a choice, nothing wrong with being married or being single.

  • Sassygalady, I just want to clarify one point, you do understand that there is a difference between people with political power moving very effectively to strip LGBT rights away and people who just don't like you because you are gay?

If signing petitions and "working behind the scenes" works for you great, thank you for doing something. Could I just ask one thing. If you haven't already, could find out more about this kerfafal, you may decide to reassess your strategy.

    Cheers.

  • No not yet it is on the way now

  • You are very right: there are many prominent gay people who should be speaking out but are not. At the same time, there are many ordinary gay people who should speak out, but are not.

I agree with you that there are many gay people who are just plain apathetic about gay issues.

If we all joined together we would achieve equal rights faster and more efficiently than we are currently.

Not taking action and remaining silent is equivelent of voting against gay rights.

    -Erik

  • What you say about slience being equivallent to voting against gay rights reminds me of another saying:

"A good man who stands by and watches evil being committed is an act of evil".

  • @korisx It's true

  • I agree with Jay: Apathy is what killing us. We have done an amazing job volunteering and donating money to the Maine campaign but over all most of us are doing nothing.

  • What is so OUTRAGEOUS is that gay people are angry at you for speaking about this issue of other YouTubers not talking about the Maine vote and not angry because their rights are being flushed down the toilet. WAKE UP GAY COMMUNITY!!!

  • Sadly I learned a lot about the gay community this week and a lot of it wasnt that great :O(

  • On the flip side, I learned about the gay community this week and it was terrific. I'm talking about people like you. Never lose that heart and drive in what you believe in. Even if it came down to one single person speaking for these rights, it's still a voice to be heard and there are people listening.

  • There is still work to be done.

  • If all gay people felt the way you did we would still be put in mental hospitals and prisons. if there had never been people willing to step up and do the right thing then im pretty sure I wouldnt have my family and Davey Wavey wouldnt have his channel. Im sorry you think equality in our country government is not a topic to be overly concerned about

  • Its fine if u think getting married in the eyes of the law will consolidate us being treated as equals in the eyes of the world. The topic itself cannot be forced onto people (dave) who clearly have other priorities. i'm just saying being overly concerned about gay marriage is absurd when people are fighting to live in areas you wouldn't be able to point on a map. Cut people like dave some slack and realize there are other people in society who think about their right to food and shelter before

  • ...their right to marriage. its all priorities. U seem to think davey wavey should get his priorities straight. but so should you.

  • Hmm its funny to me that people want to defend his rights to not tackle gay rights issues. thats fine if that is his choice. I also have the right to bring it to my subscribers that men like davey wavey and whatthebuck are part of the problem and why we dont have equality.

  • We don't have equality for many reasons, mainly having to do with heteronormative belief structures revolving around religion. A religion which you are a member of. Make an apology and make it stick, mealy-mouth.

  • then the gay community is riddled with fools. This isn't about gays wanting to marry, it's about having the right, whether or not we choose to, just as THE REST OF THE COMMUNITY has that choice. There is a fundamental difference, and if you and others like you can't see it, then we have an issue of internal ignorance. Ignorance breeds apathy.

  • @korisx AMEN! That's EXACTLY the problem....people are so damn focused on the ceremonial aspect, they don't even think about just having the right to marry should we choose...

  • Yes, I'm gay. And I totally love that you're a Star Wars fan too :P

  • Actually I think Shane IS Gay but he's still in the closet and he doesn't want to label his channel as "Gay". I've been following that guy for a long time now and I really believe that.

Now, on the video I think that you're right, people missed the point on your previous vid. Even me, that lives in Latinamerica, and watches Fox News, knows about Maine!!!!! As I knew when Pres. Obama signed the bill that extended federal protection to hate crimes that now include sexual orientation & gender

  • I would hope that I'm not homophobic, considering I'm a homosexual. :) I've yet to read anything on any recent studies. Most of what I've read placed the percentage between 3% and 10% and pretty much said that there's no way of really knowing. 10% just always seemed to be kind of a big number. I admit that there is no real logic behind that feeling other than it being just a feeling.

  • @summersonset, few questions:

What idea of mine is absurd and would be laughed at where you live?

How am I making it so difficult for my fellow country men?

What have i said that shows hatred?

  • I think that if you are unmarried and say its because you are waiting for same sex marriage to become legal in your state, then you don't want to get married and should stop lying to yourself about why you are not yet married.

  • You're angry that gay youtubers didn't make videos about Maine, why aren't you angry that straight youtubers didn't make videos about Maine? Gay people who don't care about their civil rights are the exception that prove the rule. Straight people that care about our civil rights are the exception that prove that rule.

Every gay person I know was devastated. I couldn't sleep. A dehumanizing campaign in which our lives and loves were diminished and insulted. Your anger is misdirected imho.

  • I disagree I can name at least 5 Big Straight Youtubers with 50k subscribers that have made marriage equality videos and they are straight.... I think out of the 5 biggest gay youtubers maybe 2 did a video on gay marriage.

  • I really think your anger is misdirected. Let's think of the world off of YouTube for a minute. (there is one). Was it gay people who voted 53% to repeal marriage equality in Maine? It wasn't gay people who created ads full of lies and misdirection. People pick on gays because they're easy targets, and this is no different. Instead of going after the big fish, you go after some air-headed gay teens on YouTube. People vote to destroy our civil rights and now it's OUR fault.

  • Thanks for posting.

But I disagree. A far more serious problem is straight apathy on this issue. Where are the liberal straights on this issue? They're nowhere to be found. There are a few exceptions, but they prove the rule. Why aren't liberal straights speaking up for civil rights? Why aren't they boycotting marriage, the way you would boycott a whites-only store? Gay people get enough criticism and are working their asses off on this issue. We can't do this on our own. THAT's the problem.

  • I am sorry my frined my family fought hard in the fight to defeat prop 8 here in CA and there where more liberal straight people standing with me, phone banking, holding signs then there were gay men. I was disapointed then and I am disapointed now. When our own community has a voice and wont use it I say shame on them and shame on me if I didnt adress it. We are in a fight for our civil rights and a lot of the gay community cant be bothered.

  • The str8s outnumbering gays does not describe the movement as I see or have ever seen.

& did you ever stop to think that the reason these particular gay YouTubers you're criticizing are so popular is precisely because they DON'T address weighty gay political issues with gravity and substance? If they did, they likely wouldn't be popular w/ str8 Youtubers. Sad but true.

We can't do this on our own. If liberal straights genuinely stood by us en masse on this issue, we'd have marriage equality.

  • i just want to point out that around 16 countries in Europe allow same sex marriage, around 8 allow a partner of a biological parent to adopt their child and around 6 more allow adoption of children in general. So this might be different to the statement that america leads the way... AMERICA SHOULD LEAD, BUT ITS FAR BEHIND.

  • I agree

  • Ok, i really understand you Jay, how you reacted, i would have done the same thing

I have to say I agree with you "America leads the way" I´m sorry Jay, I think NORTH america used to lead the way, the past 8/12 year was so bad, the people actually stoped caring for you guys.

But the thing is this, YOU have the mainstream media around the world, you have the most voice, you are a LARGE country. But i thinks most of the countrys looks up more to Europe than to you guys.

  • I agree America no longer leads the way in equale rights. Sadly still a lot of the world looks towards America.

  • You have no idea what you are talking about, just because you did not get your way... try moving to another country and see just how swell it is.

  • The word "gay" had negative connotations long before it was used to describe homosexuals. As far as 2% of the population having political clout, either that means that they are the ones who care enough to vote, or that there are plenty of people in the other 98% of the population who see how wrong it is to discriminate. Either way, as far as I'm concerned this nation is still great, regardless of the fact that the two percent that you speak of still don't have all the rights of other citizens.

  • Homosexuals make up 10% of the population.

  • I've heard that claim several times before, but I really believe that it's a generous estimate. It could also be that they lump bisexuals and transgendered people in the estimate.

  • Did you watch the video? Didnt say I was wrong but that the way I went about it was wrong.

  • Here is how it works. Number one problem is your statement "America leads the way..."

Over the years of listening to how great America is the listener begins to turn off and tune out.

Untold numbers of us around the world worked many years to gain rights in our countries. When we offer advice to your community in the U.S. we are laughed at or ignored.

When you are willing to ask for advice u will join the world wide gay community. That's tough to do when u r always "leading the way".

  • The comment was a lot of countrys look at America as the one who leads the way when it comes to progress in the world. I agree that America isnt doing so. I agree with you that this country has started to go backwards when it comes to equality and Human rights. I was hoping that Obama would change that but doesnt look like that is going to happen.

  • We did not wait for the politicians to make changes. We the people stood our ground and forced them to agree or get tossed out of office.

Please stop telling us that you are leading the way anywhere in the world. Get your own house in order by shedding yourself of all the unprincipled personalities.

  • I think the way that came across in the video was wrong "If only you could refilm" LOL I ment should not IS.

  • In Hungary we dont have the right to marry. Well i wouldnt want to, anyway, because im not a christian nor religious in any social way. I've just never felt the need to actually marry the one i love. Still i support gay marriage for i demand the very equal rights for every loving being in this world. I've watched every vid of yours since i've subbed you and yeah, your family participates in an unquestionably important fight for gay people. And people are changing one by one. So is the world.

  • You're right, I'm not even gay, but I think we ALL need to stand up for each other and fight for what's right.

  • I guarentee to our government that is who you are....

  • No i didnt love him any less but that day was soooooo much more important to our families kids and friends when they looked at us taking legal vows. If we had a domestic partner ceremony it would not have had the same impact on our family friends and community. We as gay people are left out of some of the most important traditions that humans hold most dear. that is why we are thought of as less then. Are boyfriends and husbands are thought of as less then.

  • 1 - I have to correct you that America does not lead the way in changing how people perceive gay people.

2 - I think we don't have an MLK of our own or a new Harvey Milk because the community is SO diverse that no 1 voice can speak 4 the entire community.

3 - Because it's so large the priorities are different for all. What I want is not what my neighbor wants.

4 - I do want the rest of the community to not fight amongst itself while some [most?] pursue our rights.

  • It is my job to awaken myself, and myself alone.

A tremendous weight is lifted through this realization, and energy and effort that is otherwise spent in debate, pointless defensiveness and argument is freed for the pursuit of love, peace and consciousness. -Davey Wavey. Davey is obviously not a political figure, and judging from this quote he believes that a moment of anger just takes away a moment of happiness.

  • Eff Davey - you are 100 percent correct.

Eff Davey - for blocking you

AND he is only partially entertainment - he also purports all this spiritual wisdom.

His blocking you - for me - invalidates all of his claims to this spiritual example he puts himself out there as.

  • ....I understand where your coming from, but given the scenario you just stated, [God Forbid] His husband died, there are so many rights that straight married folks have that gay married folks don't. If he is in a state that doesn't recognize his marriage, he couldn't even visit him in the hospital. Is that fair? no. Legally we are all created equal, so we should all be afforded the same equal right.

  • you guys are incredible im sure ur kids are gonna be successful leaders

  • You're a very big person to offer an apology to Davey Wavey, and that's only one of many reasons why I admire and am inspired by the Leffew Family. I am right with you in that our community is way too apathetic given the recent events in Maine. That said, we do have many people who are willing to step into the limelight and speak for us, such as Lt. Dan Choi who I think may very well become our Harvey Milk and MLK of this next wave of our civil rights movement.

  • Kathy Griffin does a pretty good job as well, imo. I think they should have casted her instead of Sean Penn in the movie. (The making-out scenes wouldn't have quite the same effect, though...)

  • EvenEvenOdd, casting Kathy Griffin as Harvey Milk?

  • Wouldn't it be a scream?

  • EvenEvenOdd, it would be different, that's for sure lol.

  • Married (to a man) + 1, Sam Harris is also a big proponent of gay marriage.

  • We had our "MLK"... his name was Harvey Milk and he was killed in his prime. So sad...

I still don't like Davey Wavey.

  • I would gladly be the first gay Martan Luther King ( don't think i spelled his name right) but i don't know where to start. I am a member of the G.S.A. group at my school but I want to do more send me a message and give me a hand please.

  • Thats the way to start.

  • but i want to do more.

  • While I want nothing more than to marry my boyfriend of 13 years here in Australia I understand that marriage (gay or straight) isn't for everyone and not every gay guy should have to join the fight. They have a right to decide. I love your vids but please stop harping on this and picking on the guys who choose to provide entertainment, which I might add is often required as a distraction during times of ware. ;)

  • Sorry Bro,

Wavey Davey should advocate gay causes solely because of his ratings and powerful voice. Entertainment is BS. Gay rights is more important! I am disappointed that depfox is apologizing.

  • I am not apologizing for what i said I am apologizing for focusing on just him when there are 10 others on yourtube with larger audiences that dont take a stand.

  • I feel what you have said is right on target. IM sorry it bothered you both both so badly even as important as it is.. IM not saying it should be taken lightly by any means.. Its important to all in th egay community.. I hope it didnt put to much of a damper on the day being a birthday too in your family.. I strongly am with you on these views as everyone should be gay or straight... God bless you both and look fwd in hearing more form you.. Thanks Dave ChrCordoba@aol.comn

  • My friend just like those gay people with a voice have a right to not use it. I have a right to call them out for not doing so.

  • But we do have Ellen and Portia, and Rosie, Wanda Sykes. We have Sam Sparrow, Darren Hayes, John Barrowman, Chad Allen, Clive Barker, Bryan Singer, Lance Bass. We also have you guys, the HRC, Members of Gay, Lesbian Straight Alliances. We have so much, they just have more money and that's the problem, it keeps coming down to money and fear mongering.

  • Sadly most of those you mentioned above didnt get invloved in Maine if they had think of the possible outcome

  • harsh, Davey Wavey offers entertainment, nothing else, he's not out there stand on a political soap box. Leave the dude alone.

  • Davey Wavey should have political in addition to "entertainment".

  • actually i have to say that Canada is usually the first to make minority groups more accepted.... I'm not saying Canada is perfect, but we have gay marriage everywhere etc...

But the US probably has a bigger effect on the world....

  • very well said jay... i was moved by your video response... we may not have equal rights here on earth but we are still equal in the eyes of our Creator. much love.

  • Apathy and ignorance is not unique to the American gay community.

I'm also British and I follow the gay rights struggle in the US (and around the world) and believe me you're average gay American is far more activist and knowledgeable about LGBT issues than your average gay Brit.

I was also upset about Maine but the guy in the letter seems to believe that we have marriage equality in Britain when we don't. We aren't allowed to marry but are forced to have civil partnerships instead.
